Wrong kind of Larp. I'm in the Camarilla - http://camarilla.white-wolf.com/ and we play in the World of Darkness setting, which includes such games as Vampire: the Requiem, Werewolf: the Forsaken, Mage: the Awakening, Changling: the Lost, and Geist: the Sin-Eaters. In short, if the name of the game is {Monster}: the {adjective} it's likely a LARP somewhere.:-)
Something like this is perfect for huge searchable PDF's. I help run a huge LARP, and there are well over 200+ source books for material for this game system. Something like this would be awesome, as I wouldn't have to drag several pounds of dead tree around to every game, which has the added benefit of not beating up my physical copies of the books. Not to mention that when there is a rules question, I can open the right PDF, search for the rule, and answer the question then and there instead of having to freeze the game while I look things up. I am certain there are other similar real world problems that are easily solved by a device like this.
I'm not paying more than $400 or so for one however. I'll wait until the price comes down quite a bit before I pick one up. I only paid $450 for my last laptop, which currently (mostly) provides the same functionality, though it is much heavies than a pad like this.
Re: Bush I think he lied. Did you read Paul O'Neil's book? It's frightening, and the guy is a staunch republican, not a crank or a crackpot - he's served in several administrations before this one, and still sounds like an appologist on every radio show I've heard him on. Read his book.
Re: Clinton I would have supported impeachment for lying to the court - sadly, they went after him for the infamous blue dress. I didn't support what he was in court for in the first place. I think Republicans will lie, cheat, and steal (like they did in the last election) to hold on to power, and for that reason alone, they scare the shit out of me. I agree with their stance on fiscal policy (except the supply siders, voodoo economics doesn't work) and some of their social policy, though not much.
the SlashDoS... go to the groklaw link, get "Warning: mysql_connect(): Can't connect to MySQL server on 'mysql2.ibiblio.org' (110) in/public/private/groklaw/system/databases/mysql.cla ss.php on line 108 Cannnot connect to DB server"
Why not have a virtual server at a colocation facility, rather than a box you have to connect and maintain?
Check it out. We do Slash and Scoop hosting as well.
I'm running into the problem of hosting several different sites on shared servers, and need to be able to tell each customer what their useage is - what are you all using to do this?
Is that the assumed leakage is no where near what we have with current hydrogen containment technology. This isn't like schleping fossil fuel around people. This study is meaningless.
Nice. Remeber folks - if you want your IP address broadcast all over slashdot, just log into any SlashNET irc server - the ops there like jwbozzy and drdink will FUCK YOU just like they did my friend here. Cloaking my ass.
Sorry to hear that CN, sucks to be you. My first Cable Modem back in 1997 was 3.0Mbps inbound/768k out, with @home, and service has gone downhill, first with ATTBI and now with ComCast(comcrap).net.

forever lost any business from me when the 4D wave sound card I bought new in 1999 didn't get Win2k drivers written for it (though 2k was out by the time the card was released). So, here's a card that works fine under Linux and such, but doesn't work at all with modern (windows) OS's. Worse, they refuse to even talk to you once you mention that you'd be willing to write the driver for them. Useless bags of shit. I'll never buy another Trident product as long as I live.
why we can't just decentralize DNS ourselves? If we could set up say 5 root servers (surely SOMEONE would be interested?) or so, we should be able to handle the load, right? Let's not forget that the internet is a collection of seperate networks. If those networks stoped participating in the current DNS system, ICANN would quickly become irrelivant, right?
These are the idiot trollers who have been spamming Slashdot with trolls and garbage for the past several years. Maybe it's time they get some payback. Let these people know that abusing Slashdot isn't cool.

What about the all-shrimp-and-chili-paste diet? Schlemphfer writes "A few months back, Slashdot featured a NY Times story that talked about the Atkins diet in glowing terms. This week, the Times has published a Jane Brody article raising serious questions about whether Atkins-style diets are dangerous and unsustainable. Brody is one of the most prominent and respected nutrition journalists, so it's worthwhile to read her take on the matter. Brody's article, which cites some important new research, may be an eye-opening read for Slashdot readers who took the plunge with Atkins back in July." (The NYT requires free registration.)
This article is absolute garbage.
FACT: The foods that you are often encouraged to eat the most of, are the foods that are the easiest and the cheepest to produce. They are also the ones that MAXIMIZE profit for that industry.
FACT: Fat in your diet, or protien does not put fat on your body - carbohydrates do. Period. End of discussion.
FACT: Anyone who says otherwise has either bought the industry hype, or has outright been bought by them.
FACT: Benign dietary ketosis (NOT the same thing as ketoacidosis) is the ONLY WAY your body removes fat stores.
FACT: You will learn more about this if you read Dr. Atkin's book, or contact me.
Totally. they're not color though, right? And the screen is a bit small.
