You can't really control memes.
Admittedly being pedantic, but: The definition of "meme" has really been bastardized by the existence of stupid Facebook photos with humorous text in them.
A meme-- quoting wikipedia-- will "self-replicate, mutate, and respond to selective pressures." An example of an *actual* meme is that of God. God is, essentially, a human idea that has quite successfully survived thousands and thousands of years. It self-replicates through the fear or imagination of human beings who pass dogma to their offspring, mutates through different flavors of those dogmas, and responds to the culture of the times in an often populist way to ensure the continued acceptance of it.
So, while controlling "memes" in the bastardized Facebook definition context could be *somewhat* enforceable, controlling *actual* memes-- long-held self-evolving humanity-wide ideas-- would be impossible. In fact, the notion of trying to prohibit the FB memes perpetuates the age-old meme of distrusting authority.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...
I recommend reading a bit about memes; memetic theory is enlightening in the context of propaganda, mass media, etc. I often think about this theory when folks pointedly or emotionally ask, "How the hell could you believe that?" This book is pretty good: https://www.amazon.com/Virus-M...

Re:Yelp 2.0?
Speaking of Amazon and Yelp in the same post -- both have removed the unhelpful mod (Amazon doing this only a few months ago). So now one can't down-mod a comment. Some end up with a suspicious lack of up-mods, but that is all the information we get.
This all sounds a lot like FaceBooge. Down-mods hurt sales, apparently.
Oh, look, rose-colored glasses are on sale! -

Re:Anal - lytic
They don't necessarily offer the best value; since bundling leaves room to charge for 'convenience'; but you can get arrangements that are essentially what you describe.
Something like this Kingston one gives you a USB enclosure, a copy of some version of Acronis for the data transfer, and the SSD. It's also not uncommon to see packages(especially when aimed at desktop upgrades, since 3.5in HDD USB enclosures are more expensive, being larger and needing a wall wart) where they provide just the imaging software and expect you to plug both drives into internal SATA ports and power. -
Re:what a waste of article
You should seek a refund for your operating systems course as you are 100% wrong. Operating system doesn't imply protection (that is a feature and not a defining characteristic).
Funny, in the Operating Systems class I took, we used Tanenbaum's Modern Operating Systems, 3rd Ed. where the introduction says:
"Most computers have two modes of operation: kernel mode and user mode. The operating system is the most fundamental piece of software and runs in kernel mode (also called supervisor mode)."

Redundant / Prior ArtMost of my co-workers already use Facebook at Work.
From a branding aspect, F@WK is a horrible title -- and not just for the clever acronym I just made up.
Upper Mgmt considers Facebook to be a time-waster for employees. They would have been better to market under a unique brand that isn't associated with that existing perception by not using Facebook in the name.
The whole project is a bit ironic... As Zuck's philosophy has always been that a person should have one account, and friends/family/co-workers should intermix.“You have one identity,” he emphasized three times in a single interview with David Kirkpatrick in his book, “The Facebook Effect.” “The days of you having a different image for your work friends or co-workers and for the other people you know are probably coming to an end pretty quickly.” He adds: “Having two identities for yourself is an example of a lack of integrity.”

wrist bracesSorry it took a while to respond UnknownSoldier - I'm recovering from spinal surgery to c4-c6 in my neck and had to do the reply in chunks. Still on a lot of painkillers and sleep, head is all over the place. I'm still building stamina at the computer.
2 mice? wow! I had been wondering if anyone was crazy enough to try that. Sorry to hear that you were forced out of necessity but it sounds like you had no choice.
Well, I'd been swapping the mouse left hand for a few weeks, the right hand for a few weeks for so long I began to notice it was the combined, click and mouse move that were fatiguing and provoking injury. Examining at my usage habits again I realised the cost of two mouses is really cheap ergonomic protection and less than the cost of a single physiotherapy session.
When I tried it, it was confusing at first, then incredibly liberating. At least for me. As I got better it improved endurance and throughput on a machine, like this was the way it was supposed to work all along. I have two configs dual mouse and dual trackball. You find yourself mousing on one hand and button on the other and dual mousing. As for reptitive movements, using both distributes the muscle movements arcoss both hands. So a 'select' and drag, for example, the click muscle is on one hand and the movement muscle is in the other hand.
The dual trackballs are great for music production and dual mouse works great for coding.
Have you tried any of those?
Yes.
I used them quite a lot when healing injury on different joints. I found it is the heat, as opposed to the pressure, that helps it heal. The little colds spots are bad, and slow healing. I used the ones without a strap to keep the heat in at the joint and keep it in place.
No matter which ones you use the advice I received about them (physio/chiro/doctors) was to only use them at night so that the body doesn't get dependent on them being there. If you do it has the reverse effect and makes the joint weaker, exacerbating the pain over time.
I did that and found if you keep the warmth on the joint while you sleep and take it off during the day the ligaments and joints heal pretty well. They should be a bit sweaty by morning. Take them off, store inside out during the day to dry. Wash them once a week otherwise they get really stinky.
Don't be afraid of wrist or finger cavitations during the day, its part of the healing proccess.
I think I wore them for about two years and now I dont need them anymore.
These are close the ones I used: https://www.amazon.com/Thermos... though mine didn't have the velcro.
Hope it helps - I know how it feels to need those things.
Definitely. Everyone's body has a "natural" way of doing things.
I'll probably be going through it again. The neck surgery means I will be reveiwing screen position again and reviewing other usage habits.
Excellent context-neutral descriptions !
Thank you.
I'll have to tell you about my acoustic-to-electronic kit conversion one day.
sweeeet! I love those things.

You do NOT have to pay extra for double stuf

Re: You wouldn't download an Oreo
Standard Oreo cookies on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00R...">$0.19/oz
Oreo Double Stuf cookies on Amazon: $0.17/oz
Double Stuf Oreos don't cost more, so the idiot metaphor isn't even accurate if it did make sense, which it doesn't. Why? The filling is whipped vegetable oil and sugar, which is cheaper than cookie, but takes more volume.
The guy who made this comparison is also an idiot because when you purchase internet service, you pay whether you use it or not. I don't see them offering rebates for under-usage, why do they think it's cool to charge my parents who just do email and facebook the same amount as someone who hits the cap every month?
These fucker ISPs don't get it both ways. Either charge flat fees and stop over subscribing the shit out of the network, or charge usage fees and watch your profits disappear.

Re: PHP
I had to go and get my old Programming Languages text from when I studied Computer Science in college, it's Programming Languages: Structures and Models by Herbert L. Dershem and Michael J. Jipping.
In the introduction, they give a working definition of a programming language as "a language intended to be used by a person to express a process by which a computer can solve a problem."
I'm curious what aspect of PHP you think doesn't meet that definition?
(Not that curious, in case you're planning a long rant)

Here's the exact email
I was on that plan and I recently received the email. Here's the exact wording:
"Hello,
We recently learned that you received an email incorrectly announcing your Unlimited Photos plan was being changed into an Unlimited Storage trial. We're very sorry about this. We meant to let you know that the Unlimited Photos storage plan is no longer available, but you can continue to use your plan until it ends.
To make up for this, we are giving you 12 free months of the Unlimited Storage plan, which lets you store as many photos, videos, and other files as you like. When your promotional Unlimited Storage plan ends, you will be charged $59.99 for a one-year plan. You can cancel your promotional plan at any time.
This offer is valid until your current plan expires. Please accept this offer on your “Manage Storage” page: https://www.amazon.com/gp/phot...
We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
Sincerely,
Customer Service Department
Amazon.com"I will take the freebie but not sure if I'm going to continue after that. I have 2.5TB of uploaded RAW photos. It took a while to upload that and it sucks that I may have to do it again. The freebie will expire in 2018 so we'll see what's available at that point.

Re:Old School
Dude you can not see what is going on at all, all you see is the mud monkey output and when it comes to shifting those bits and bytes and words (not words words but words)https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Word_(computer_architecture), you have not idea at all what is going on, no one does, you just 'assume' it is doing what the screen claims it is doing and the computer is doing way, way more, than just output to a video screen. Once you dabble in computer security, you really start to understand what a mindless head fuck it really is, all your attempts at security are down to the assumption that the output reflects what is actually happening, whilst knowing full well, that it that what is being displayed could not be what is actually happening. Seriously dude why do you think it cost so much to de-hack secure networks, everything has to be checked, any suspicion what so ever about any component and that has to checked, even replaced and even then once finished, all very closely monitored for an extended period, just to make sure. Often easier to replace old box with new box with data restored from backups and than erase old box and sell (boxes are cheap compared to labour, especially extended overtime labour). Old safes should still be cheap on second hand market, the idea is the mass not so much security. Interesting side note, did you know, one of the core design requirements for office floors, way back when, for office floors was to be able to hold a one ton safe, here you go https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=s... and Amazon will even deliver. Often manual is far easier and more secure than electronic.

Re:Those are two different options
I was referring to two different options. USB over Lightning is one option.
As another, more hackish option the board surely has some SPI pins.
That said, because it is software-defined AND you have root, *perhaps* you could do SPI over Lightning. That's not what I was suggesting, though.
At first glance, I would guess that Lightning is done over GPIO pins (with maybe some DMA thrown in), rather than a specific ARM "peripheral". But, since Apple actually rolls-their-own ARM designs; it would be logical to assume that they DO have some sort of custom Lightning i/f built into their SoCs.
They might talk to their radios, gyros, etc. over SPI (and/or I2C); but, in such a tightly-integrated device, it might be pretty hard to come up with an "enable" pin for your particular, non-planned-for SPI device.
Personally, if I was just using it for some "offline" storage that didn't require "Always there" access, I'd just use a Lightning-based Reader/Writer (Amazon has a nice one for SD and MicroSD (albeit a little pricey) I've been thinking of getting), and something like the GoodReader App, to access the SD storage and the "local" files. Life's just too short to ass-around with jailbreaking to get access to a POSSIBLE SPI i/f. And then you have to write some sort of Driver, and then you have to figure out how to expose access to that Driver, etc. etc. By the time you get THAT familiar with the innards of both the Device AND the OS, you'd mightaswell be making money with those skills... ;-) -

Instead of putting a tablet in that case, you can put a small monitor in there. Liliput is a well-known brand that sells monitors from 7-12" or so.

And to add to that the amount of people around her who were involved with various activities that she was a part of who have ended up in jail. When I heard her say "The company you keep says a lot about you" I immediately though about how that would apply to her over the years. Whitewater, cattle futures, Lincoln Bedroom, Travel Gate, Robert Byrd, Rose Law Firm, etc.
If the republicans wanted to run an ad that would seem like a good one, open with that quote from Clinton, then list off all of the people who ended up in trouble with the law or have a bad background and mention their relationship to Clinton. Then in closing replay the Clinton quote. Then again this year I am, jokingly, hoping for Russian intervention or Giant Meteor in the first debate as the best outcome. -

Which is why banning 3D printed guns is stupid. I mean, if you want to really be a bad guy, drop a few dollars at Amazon and buy a book that shows you how to make a 9mm submachine gun with common hand-held power tools. The book, $150 spent at Home Depot, and you have a nice little firearm!

It must be difficult to play a FPS while heaving. I hope you feel better soon. (I know, it was a spell check error, but it was funny to see).
I like the MX Master mouse I got for my laptop:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...
It works really well, and rarely loses connection. I have never liked wires on my mice, they always seem to get hung up on something when gaming. Previous to this one though, I used a Logitech Trackman trackball. It was nice never having to pick up and move the mouse at the pad edges with that, but they tended to get gummed up more easily as the tracking is done on something that touches your fingers.

So when manipulating text an index click positions the cursor, a double index selects a word or a begins a drag to select, and a triple click selects a line (as normal). Sure I am limited to 52 bookmarks, however I have rarely used more than 30. Obviously you can then use that to set up ranges to cut, copy paste, use regular expressions on or apply functions to.Yes, I use m (mark) and ' (goto) as well ! The problem is once you have more then 3+ bookmarks it becomes hard to remember "where" each bookmark takes you. i.e. What is the Spatial Location? I have an easier time using digits then letters. Let me explain:
While mA and mZ are obvious that they are near the top and end respectively, using mW mS and mX is _not_ obvious on their spatial location. Sure S < W < X but WHERE roughly are these 3 set ??
S=19, which is 16/26 = ~62%
W=23, which is 23/26 = ~89%
X = 24, which is 24/26 = 92%If I could use the Ctrl-# I would use the bookmark as a mnemonic to remember roughly WHERE in the file it is.
i.e.
I would bookmark Ctrl-1, Ctrl-2, Ctrl-3 near the top of the file
I would bookmark Ctrl-4, Ctrl-5, Ctrl-6 near the middle of the file
I would bookmark Ctrl-7, Ctrl-8, Ctrl-9 near the end of the file.Using the examples above I would use:
Ctrl-6
Ctrl-8
Ctrl-9See which one is easier to remember? I no longer have to play the guessing game of "Where is bookmark X located again?"
