    Everything is good to make a joke. Certainly, the painfull subject of the life. Laughing make exteriorize our fears, fear of dead, fear of power (money), fear of diseases, fear of senility...
    Laughing help to decompress. We all need at a certain point to decompress, to calm down. There are other way like jogging, punchingballing or shouting at animals (GRR) but laughing is always easy (you don't need to be prepared) and nearly always possible.
    I find utterly interesting that it's in the mentally strengest works that we encounter the most jovial people. Doctors, nurses, social workers can laugh of situations they live (that are not so fun, you know). If they wouldn't, they would rapidly collapse under the weight of all the miseries they encounter dayly.
    Did you ever come accross web sites of doctor or nurse ? Many have a joke section...

    I think it's important to joke about quite any subject. Just pay attention to the addressed people and always think twice (or preferably more than that) before saying something ugly or tasteless.

    No, but if there were other people in the car (read:forum), I'd talk to them about the problem. I would also hope that they wouldn't get angry just because I was wearing an All Advantage T-shirt.

    If the car ran out of gas five times a day, I'd point that out, too. Just as I point out the worthless articles. I mean, who really cares what's going on in Brazil?

    I hate the way Hemos posts articles, with all these stupid links!

    they gathered to enact the LARGEST protest and civil demonstration in all of american history, including the civil rights movement. It's not just 'seattleites', but indeed upwards of 40 to 50 thousand people

    You are totally wrong about that. A number of protests and demonstrations have been larger in US history. For example, Martin Luther King's famous March on Washington in 1963 drew a quarter of a million people. Somehow they managed to avoid looting and rioting, too..

    Protests in DC over such contemporary issues as abortion have drawn larger crowds, as well. You really need to get your facts straight. However, considering you support the protest, it's unlikely you are intrigued by facts.

    Somehow I suspect that making your own modifications to the Bible and redistributing it as a new and improved version would be frowned upon...

    Thomas Jefferson did it. He extractd the moral teachings from the various Gospels and discarded what he thought were the supernatural bits. His version never really caught on, though.

    The software (source as well as binaries) offered on this site can be freely redistributed because it was published under the GNU General Public License. The purpose of this software is not illegal copying of DVD disks. It is meant to provide information necessary to be able to program a DVD player for Linux. To do this, the CSS system needs to be incorporated in the player. Recently the (very weak) DVD content scrambling system was deciphered, freeing the way for a Linux DVD player. The CSS system is not a copy protection system, since it does not prevent copying of the disk. Writing information about the way an encryption scheme functions is completely legal. The source code and binaries on this site are completely legal too, since they contain no code from the DVD consortium or its members. The sources and programs on this site were written by third parties using clean-room reverse engineering methods which are (ready?) completly legal.

    www.rhythm.cx was hosting a list of mirrors for these files. That list of mirrors has been replaced with a page reading "This site has been taken down for legal reasons." Here's what the maintainer put on the site the day it was shut down:

    NOTE (Thu, Nov 11, 12:17pm EST): I've recently been informed that a law firm which is likely to be one that would try get these mirrors taken down has been visiting this mirror site as well as others. With that said, there is a possibility that I may have to remove this site in the near future because like everyone else, I can't afford to go to court to fight it. Luckly, it seems fairly unlikely that any law firm will ever be able to get rid of all these mirrors at this point (there are currently 41 in 8 different countries and this list is growing every day). However, I have only seen very few mirror _lists_ like this one anyplace. If anyone has the resources, it might be wise to mirror this list of mirrors as well so that the right people will still know that these mirrors exist.

    Explanation on legality of this information:

    The software (source as well as binaries) offered on this site can be freely redistributed. It was written by authors who expressly permitted and encourage the redistribution of this software and information. The purpose of this software is not, I repeat not illegal copying of DVD disks. It is meant to provide information necessary to be able to program a DVD player for Linux. To do this, the CSS system needs to be incorporated in the player. Recently the (very weak) content scrambling system was deciphered, freeing the way for a Linux DVD player. The CSS system is not a copy protection system, since it does not prevent copying of the disk. Writing information about the way a certain protection scheme functions is completely legal. The source code and binaries on this site are completely legal too, since they contain no code from the DVD consortium or one of its members. The sources and programs on this site are purely written by 3rd parties using clean-room reverse engineering methods, which is, again, completely legal. This software and information below make it possible for people who legally obtained their DVD movies to view them on their Linux systems.

    Attention

    www.rhythm.cx was hosting a list of mirrors for these files. That list of mirrors has been replaced with a page reading "This site has been taken down for legal reasons." Here's what the maintainer put on the site the day it was shut down:

    NOTE (Thu, Nov 11, 12:17pm EST): I've recently been informed that a law firm which is likely to be one that would try get these mirrors taken down has been visiting this mirror site as well as others. With that said, there is a possibility that I may have to remove this site in the near future because like everyone else, I can't afford to go to court to fight it. Luckly, it seems fairly unlikely that any law firm will ever be able to get rid of all these mirrors at this point (there are currently 41 in 8 different countries and this list is growing every day). However, I have only seen very few mirror _lists_ like this one anyplace. If anyone has the resources, it might be wise to mirror this list of mirrors as well so that the right people will still know that these mirrors exist.

    UPDATE: Here is a 2600 story with more details on how rhythm.cx was shut down.

With that said, there is a possibility that I may have to remove this site in the near future because like everyone else, I can't afford to go to court to fight it. Luckly, it seems fairly unlikely that any law firm will ever be able to get rid of all these mirrors at this point (there are currently 41 in 8 different countries and this list is growing every day). However, I have only seen very few mirror _lists_ like this one anyplace. If anyone has the resources, it might be wise to mirror this list of mirrors as well so that the right people will still know that these mirrors exist.

With that said, there is a possibility that I may have to remove this site in the near future because like everyone else, I can't afford to go to court to fight it. Luckly, it seems fairly unlikely that any law firm will ever be able to get rid of all these mirrors at this point (there are currently 41 in 8 different countries and this list is growing every day). However, I have only seen very few mirror _lists_ like this one anyplace. If anyone has the resources, it might be wise to mirror this list of mirrors as well so that the right people will still know that these mirrors exist.

    I am about to graduate from DeVry in 2 weeks and I can tell any geek out there that if you do this, it will be the biggest waste of 2 years of your life. Only one professor I have had has had any sort of idea about the information he was teaching. Job placement assitance is definitely there and if that's all you are after, then fine. But if you really want to learn, go to a real college. I hear UC Berkley is one of the top for CS. Check out this page with some guy's experience at DeVry: DeVry Sucks

    As others have said it doesn't support Java, but it does support Javascript (which is kinda impressive for a small floppy), but when I went to my page PowerPak GSDK it didn't show up, the page has pop-ups from the hosting service, and the javascript didn't open a new window, so all that showed was the banner in the popup on a blank page. And an error message about Javascript.
    These services usually place thier Javascript code at the very top of the page which is the incorrect place for javascript and does not conform to strict HTML guidelines, but with so many pages using pop-up ads one has to wonder whose fault the incompatibilty is "QNX or the hosting services?" I Think the QNX guys could have at least tested the browser on a page with popups.

    Firstly copyright and licensing are two separate issues.

    The statement re unauthorised use at the bottom of my pages has everything to do with licensing.

    People have sent me pictures for my page under the strict conditions that I take them down if they later request and do not allow distribution elsewhere.

    The easiest way I have of fulfilling my multiple obligations to different people is to get people to ask me if they can use a photo.

    When I have no such restrictions I generally have no problems allowing use:

    You could use AFS instead of NFS. You'll need commercial server software (runs on a SUN), but there are free clients.

    Why? Because AFS is better than NFS. More secure, more flexible and faster.

    Then there's Coda aswell.
