Its name is subject, it's a title!
>Produced better results than expensive graphics coolers even though its lighter and cheaper.
Could you tell me where I could buy a lighter and cheaper? If you wouldn't mind letting me know, it'd be great.
At the same time, I'd like to recommend a purchase for the editors (this is their responsibility). This is it. -

Er, well, it looks like the one I previously linked to provides some handy information, but not it's/its specifically. So the editors should have this one as well: Bob the Angry Flower's Guide to it's/its

Kill or capture all Islamic terrorists? Sure - just like each retaliatory strike by Israel against Hamas prevents violence rather than inciting more of it.
Indeed. In the words of Bob The Angry Flower: how much do you gotta BOMB people to get 'em to quit HATING you?

Yah
I threw in the "yo's"...average Joe's use that today.
Good job getting down with the people. I see that you also emulated their punctuation habits, seeing as how Joes don't know how to use the apostrophe, either.

Its'?
Are we just putting apostrophes anywhere we damn well please now? It's bad enough when people think "it's" is a proper possessive (it isn't), but now you're just sticking them places to your heart's content?
The Angry Flower can help you. See rule 3. http://angryflower.com/bobsqu.gif -

Eats, Shoots & Leaves
For those of you looking to improve your punctuation I'd highly recommend Lynne Truss's "Eats, Shoots & Leaves: The Zero Tolerance Approach to Punctuation" (ISBN: 1861976127). It's a surprisingly funny book that's equally applicable to British and American English, although it's written with a British slant as Lynne's from London. If you've ever struggled with the humble apostrophe -- as the Angry Flower so eloquently observed that many people have -- and wish you knew the full rules of its use, this book's for you!

Re:Correct English?
But there are correct rules of grammar which you have followed in the creation of your post. Saying there is no correct English is ridiculous. Why else would someone make fun of the "All your base are belong to us" translation or create this comic strip if the English language was a free-for-all?

Re:What you are missing...
You are missing the bigger picture in life. And that is that spelling and grammer only matter up to high school unless you are an English major or a Tech writer. Otherwise you get credit for best effort as long as it makes sense.
Ummm.. No.
There are still plenty of folks in corporate management who consider reading bad grammar, spelling, and/or punctuation akin to the sound of fingernails scraped across a chalkboard. They consider correct writing and speaking a sign of intelligence, and the lack of it a lack of it. Of course, non-native English users get a legitimate break, but anyone coming out of an accredited degree-granting institution should be able to write a letter free of spelling, grammar and punctuation errors.
Those are the folks who decide whether you get hired, promoted, fired, etc.
And yes, I am frequently tempted to carry a permanent marker around with me to correct graffiti, ad copy, etc. Seeing poor spelling is bad, but poor punctuation kills me.

Re:Have the mods learned their grammar lesson?
Damn. I don't remember putting that in there.
I prefer Bob the Angry Flower's Guide to the Apostrophe, myself.
But that story was submitted after being awake for 20-something hours, so I hereby blame my sleep-deprived state for any spelling and grammatical errors found. If you think the story itself is nonsensical, well, I blame Society. :-)

Re:Have the mods learned their grammar lesson? These are Slashdot users (and editors) we're talking about here. Grammar lessons need to be much shorter and, ideally, include pictures.
The verbal abuse is just an added bonus.

TIE fighters, atrocious spelling
I remember a cool science teacher in High School getting people to write papers on the science of Star Wars. Rather than do anything particularly scientific, I gathered all the fictional information I could find on the ion engines in TIE fighters. I did not do well.
Of course, ion engines do exist now. I want some marks back.

Bob's quick guide to the Apostrophe
Because of Einstein's insight into the conversion of mass and energy, we now understand how distant Sun's illuminate the cosmos
Is this a print publication? Because the editor must be an illiterate moron..
Also, the capitalized 'Sun' refers to the star at the center of our solar system. Stars in general may be referred to as 'suns'. -

Re:High School's should teach C++
I didn't think that
You're right, but there's a huge, huge gap between "Impressing me with your English abilities" and "Impressing me with your amazing lack of English ability". If you care so little about what you're writing to make such an egregious error in the title, why should I even bother reading it? There's spelling nits, and there are the errors found by grammar nazis, and then there's a whole other category of error so awful it makes one's teeth hurt. In that last case, the message is no longer clear because the fertilizer you've spread over your English obscures it. /. comments are to be written to impress you with their English abilities.
If someone were giving a policy speech and began with an analogy about the Mathematical axiom of choice relating to feminist political goals, I'd stop listening right there. It's a similar situation here. Such a blatant disregard for what's leaving one's mouth (or, in the case of slashdot posts, one's computer) shows profound disrespect for the reader that I don't care to know the rest.
Indeed, with this post I jumped straight to the comments after the title, and so was surprised (although I admit, only slightly) to see all the other errors that the first response had pointed out. (I did this even though I find the idea of high schools teaching C++ interesting) -

Re:There is no "copywrite"
In addition:
its: possesive (as in it owns something)
it's: contraction for "it is"

I wonder what Bob has to say about this...

Aaaaargh! Apostrophes don't pluralize!
"DVD's" and "CD's" are not plural. They're possessive ("my DVD's surface is all scratched up because I'm an idiot") or contractions ("That DVD's about a guy who can't pluralize"), but not plural. If you want the plural form of "DVD", it's pretty simple -- add an 's' without the apostrophe, as in "DVDs". Is that so hard?
-
Re:You can do it!
Bob disagrees.

smd4985 needs to know more about punctuation...
There's no apostrophe required for the plural, moron!

English lesson
Apostrophes, commas and capital letters aren't something you sprinkle over sentences randomly. Even if you have a very good reason for having crappy English skills, you still look like a moron when you write like a ten year-old, and people will still place less importance on your opinion when you express yourself so poorly. You would be doing yourself a favour if you improved your English skills.
