Re:Instead...
How about doing this ONLY when the person is using a mobile device?
That's exactly what Google is doing. It's pretty clear in Google's announcement: "We’re boosting the ranking of mobile-friendly pages on mobile search results" (emphasis mine). See for yourself http://googlewebmastercentral....

Against Wikileaks smear campaign on SlashdotI know these leaks didn't come out trough Wikileaks, but since they republished them we are seeing a lot of stuff that nobody was talking about, here are some examples, got from "this day in wikileaks" (bolds are mine):
The US State Department recruited Hollywood to boost “anti-Russian messaging“.
Sony pirated multiple books about hacking, while aggressively campaigning against piracy.
Emails reveal concerns in the US over the secrecy of the TPP talks.
The leaks included a draft of the international VOD and DHE agreement between SONY and Google
Sony received nearly $48 million in tax breaks in 2011 and 2012 after donating to New York Governor Cuomo.
Ben Affleck demanded PBS program “Finding Your Roots” hide his slave-owning ancestor.
Sony changed the Snowden film press release to remove “illegal spying” from the description of NSA’s activities
Sony cameras are used as a part of the guidance system for Israeli rockets bombing Gaza
Sony Chiefs met with David Cameron ahead of the Scottish referendum
Corrupt product placement practices used in Dr. Oz showI really hope that slashdot doesn't become another place of pro-government propaganda, as that really pisses me off. The information was already out there, but their republishing obviously did us a favor (us that care about government accountability or knowing the truth anyway). We already have enough media outlets against information out there, let's keep this one useful.
I would never know the above facts if it wasn't for them, as 1. I believed the propaganda that it was mostly employee information and didn't feel comfortable downloading it and reading, and 2. it would be too much work for me to look into the e-mails.
Now that I know these stuff I feel like someone more informed than before. I hope the Slashdot community stops being against information.By the way, since I haven't seen here a link to their press release, with the leaks, here it is.

Re:Second slashvertisement in as many days
Not everything is a 'phone'. My very nice clock/radio/alarm receives AM and FM. I'd be pretty pissed off if I had to replace that (and all the other FM receivers in the house) with some new digital doodad.
You should check out getting one of these. It's way cooler than radio.

Re:Lost?
Yes, they lost it intentionally --scuttled it somewhere out near the Farallones, along with a lot of separate barrels -- and didn't keep good records of where anything was. The stuff has been found slowly since people started looking.
If you ever wondered why the Marin County coastline doesn't look like the rest of the Bay Area -- newspapers at the time (long before the Internet) reported that developers could not get a waiver of liability for what could happen to that coastline when the radioactives start coming ashore. Thus we have the Golden Gate National Recreation Area and all those dairy farms and such.

"- The Navy's own documents, declassified at the request of SF Weekly, show that significant amounts of the nuclear bomb component plutonium, which has a half-life of 24,000 years, and similarly long-lived "mixed fission" products were used at the nuclear laboratory at Hunters Point. The Navy has asserted that all nuclear materials used at the NRDL were subsequently disposed of at the Farallon waste site.
- An entire radioactive ship, the 10,000-ton aircraft carrier USS Independence, is believed to have been sunk in or near the waste site. The carrier itself was clearly "hot" when it went down. It had been used as an atomic bomb target and a nuclear laboratory, and it was packed full of fresh fission products and other radiological waste at the time it sank.
- Two government officials say the Navy told them thousands of barrels containing "special" wastes -- that is, high-level, long-lived radioactive materials -- were dumped in the Farallon site." -
Re:Sexes ARE different, thankfully
Or, maybe, women and men simply aren't the same?
The anatomy and physiology are demonstrably different.
Obviously what's at hand here is mental differences. Are there demonstrable mental differences? Yes! But there's only one issue with that...
In almost any sentence where people say "Women (verb)..." or "Men (verb)..." and it's about something psychological (as opposed to, say, something involving reproductive organs or a statistical difference in strength / height or the like), 99% of the time it's equally accurate to simply say "People (verb)..." The popular perception of the degree of differences between genders (including the effects of both brain structure and hormones) is often vastly different from the statistical reality. Screw Mars and Venus; men and women are from Earth. Psychologically, we're statistically virtually identical in most measures. And in many cases where there are differences that even manage to meet statistical significance, what differences there are may well be artifacts of culture.
Human children learn through imitating. They adopt role models (such as their parents at an early age) and mimic their behaviors, to the degree that it can even hinder them (one of the sort of psychological tests where chimps perform better than human children is to lay out a puzzle and have an adult solve it in front of the subjects, but insert a bunch of needless time-wasting steps; the human children almost invariably perform all of the time-wasting steps while the chimps catch on quickly that they're pointless and skip them). As a general rule, children most mimic members of their gender, something that socially they're rewarded for. By the very nature of this system, it inherently perpetuates the carryover of any totally non-gender-related but nonetheless gender-segregated activities from the previous generation. If you had a society where eating apples was something almost exclusively done by men, even if you didn't specifically teach the next generation that apples are a "men's fruit", the vast majority of girls wouldn't take up eating apples.
Given this, whether there would be any factual basis or not for women to be better or worse at STEM, the very fact that historically there were fewer women in STEM (a legacy from the old Victorian moral system), this will automatically lead to there being fewer women in STEM in the next generation. Now, one can do nothing and just hope that, after enough generations, the problem will remedy itself. Or, one can decide that having 50% of the human population having a solid interest in the sort of careers most valuable to the improvement of the human condition is a good thing, and maybe we should give a shot at remedying this, even if just on the "offchance" that it's not biological.

Re:How Did We Get Here?
"Rape culture" isn't really about solving any problems. It's about generating fear to generate money and votes.
Rape rates have been falling drastically since the 70's.
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_ZlRN...
Rape rates on colleges are LOWER than outside of college:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wi...
And rape rates in some other 1st-world countries are HUGELY higher--but nobody here cares apparently:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wi...
But none of these facts comply with the myth of the "oppressive white male" who thinks he can rape and take whatever he wants.
Nobody disagrees with the idea that rape is a bad thing. But people are willing to hijack that axiom to create hysteria and generate political power. -

You need certification. here
Your link appears to be based on Australia laws. In the US no license or permit is required to fly an ultralight aircraft. However everyone should receive training. The autogyros are extremely stable due to their design but of course unexpected things happen.
As to the craft itself, I cannot tell from the article if it is an ultralight copter or a traditional one. Auto-gyros are somewhat difficult to achieve the ultralight weight restrictions but not impossible.

Colm Mulcahy -- Math and Cards
For those who are interested in math and/or card tricks, Colm Mulcahy is a professor of mathematics who often writes about math, cards and card tricks. He writes a blog called Card Colm for the Mathematical Association of America (MAA). He has written a book, Mathematical Card Magic: Fifty-Two New Effects, published by CRC Press.
A web site contains other interesting information about Mulcahy and his work, including links to past Card Colms.
Enjoy!

This "conversation" is continued from here.
Pardon me again. Just for the sake of completeness, I want to post this:
In physics, we call "thermodynamics" something else. We call it "statistical mechanics." Meaning macroscopic and predictable based on statistics. Before you read further, please just consider this notion: "equilibrium" is *defined* in thermodynamics as a state where there is no net flow. Trying to prove that there is a net flow is just trying to prove non-equilibrium. There's no reason to try and say that there are counterexamples. That's like trying to say that a dog is really a cat. The very word "equilibrium" means that all the flows are equal in all parts of the system, in and out. If you find a counterexample that exists, then by definition the system is NOT IN EQUILIBRIUM. So if you find a counterexample, then you've found a system that is not in thermal equlibrium. Done.
In the system I showed there IS net heat transfer. It is not in local thermal equilibrium. The point was important. [Lonny Eachus, 2015-04-13]
Notice that the quote you copied isn't restricted to heat flow. That point is important. Conservation of energy applies to all energy which crosses a boundary, even if it crosses that boundary in the form of electricity instead of heat.
Conservation of energy means that if you draw a boundary around some system (like the heated plate), power going in minus power going out of the boundary equals the rate at which energy inside that boundary changes. If nothing inside the boundary is changing, that rate is zero so power in = power out.
If power in = power out, physicists say there's "no net flow".
So Lonny's link is actually just repeating the same basic concept that I am: if there's no change with time, conservation of energy says that power in = power out. ALL power. Not just heat, because any form of energy has to be included in the energy conservation equation.
That's why if nothing is changing with time, electrical heating power depends on the cooler chamber wall temperature:
electrical heating power + radiative power in from the chamber walls = radiative power out from the heat source
Once again, what matters is that the objects' temperatures aren't changing with time. It's just a matter of labels if we call this "equilibrium" or "steady-state".
But I generously let you choose "steady-state" seven months ago. And yet you're still using this nonsensical excuse to evade solving the very first step of this very simple thought experiment. Why?
@tan123 @SteveSGoddard These two bozos wanted to set me up. (I *DO* have a reply to their physics problem, by the way.) [Lonny Eachus, 2015-04-13]
Really? Then prove it. Show everyone how the enclosed plate doesn't warm, without using your previous nonsensical equation which violates what you call "kindergarten-level physics", and without wrongly claiming that "radiative power out" is held constant rather than electrical (or Jane's cow fart or Lonny's horse fart, etc.) heating power.

Small Correction
An exoplanet should NOT be HD189733B. A capital B would denote a star. A lower case b denotes a planet. And, yes, you can have a HD XXXXBb. Alpha Centauri Bb is one of those. Its an S type circumbinary system. For those who are interested, I have a blog which links to the exoplanet papers are they come out, whether its from arxiv or one of the scientific journals.

Re:Reason: for corporations, by corporations
HOA's remind me more of Autocratic Dictatorships that put the word "Democratic" in their name.
Evan McKenzie, a former H.O.A. attorney and author of Privatopia (1994) and Beyond Privatopia (2011) once described "repressive libertarianism"
where certain people who call themselves libertarians invariably side with property owners who want to limit other people's liberties through the use of contract law. Property rights (usually held by somebody with a whole lot of economic clout) trump every other liberty. The libertarian defense of HOAs is the perfect example. The developer writes covenants and leaves. Everybody who lives there has to obey them forever, even if they lose due process of law and expressive liberties.
As private corporations take over more functions of government, this position could lead to gradual elimination of constitutional liberties.
In the case of H.O.A.s, the home owner's private property rights have been delegated to a third party -- the H.O.A. corporation.

Re:Jane/Lonny Eachus goes Sky Dragon Slayer
Lonny keeps lecturing physicists about physics, and has another forensic wet dream:
I suspect you are taking someone else's word that there is a disagreement about "net", but that person is not correct. I stated "net", which you can find in the textbooks. If someone disagrees, I suggest you use the textbook definition. I am no longer going to respond to arguments that did not originate on twitter, on twitter. Take them elsewhere. Pardon me, you of dubious provenance: I am busy and I do not recall. What was the context again? Which bodies? You honestly expect a meaningful argument about thermodynamics on Twitter? REALLY? Even if it WEREN'T obvious that this is a sock-puppet account, so you don't have to identify yourself? What possible reason would I have to answer you AT ALL??? Arrogant asshole, thinks everyone else is a fool. Fuck off. By the way: all these exchanges are being recorded, and circumstantial evidence of identity noted. Have a nice day. Evidence is as it is: no avatar, no history, narrow focus, a few comments to "establish account credibility"... comments suspiciously timed with arguments being made elsewhere, etc. You're a forensic wet dream. And what's really hilarious is that I've told you that before but you still don't get it. Explain what possible relevance that has. So you have used this ID elsewhere? So what? Evidence of exactly nothing. What's RELEVANT, is evidence of what use you have made of it NOW, and HERE. Existence elsewhere is weakest straw-man. I'm not arguing with you, I'm telling you what is evident.
So.. okay. I did look you up, and you do appear to be a real person. I am a bit set back, because there was A LOT of evidence
... that you were LIKELY someone else. Among that evidence is that person engaged in sock-puppetry regularly. So pardon me if I jumped the gun; but you started arguing about things I hadn't mentioned to you personally... which ... reinforced the idea that you were sock-puppeting for someone else. If I was mistaken, I apologize, but you must ... understand how it looked from my point of view. You have no avatar, you have no established presence on Twitter... and I have been battling someone who has a nasty sock-puppet habit. It has nothing to do with "Liberal Conspiracy". Don't put words in my mouth. The fact remains: if you want to have meaningful discussion of radiative physics, it won't happen on Twitter. So don't insult yourself by asking. "Forensic" evidence you have been conferring with others is still there; they don't put words in my mouth, either. Although certain among them have repeatedly tried. Even so, I would have to ask what is unclear about this, re: this comment and the next. Your meaning is unclear. Honestly, if you act like a sock-puppet (you have), expect to be perceived as a sock-puppet. I retract my apology. If you want to be taken seriously, establish a presence, and don't argue things others NOT here said behind my back. Having said all I said, I am willing to accept that the situation was not intentional on your part. SO... please explain your comment about there being two terms in the calculation of flux. I *WILL* apologize if your argument about net was not prompted by a certain individual who has misrepresented. -

Re:Simple answer ...
If you have a moment, check out the blog posts here: http://pychildren.blogspot.com... This section conveys the simple joy of living and learning and how we often fail as adults by teaching our children that things are impossible. Somewhere along our path to adulthood, we stop believing in magic. What would make us start believing again? It seems improbable for a 9 year old girl to program. Yet, I see it. As she sits in front of a Linux computer slowly typing out code in PyCharm, I think that this tiny 3rd grade girl either represents the future of computer programming or a failed opportunity for everyone. Adjust the y axis to move the character down the screen with keyboard input, I say. I do not expect her to succeed. She does it with the aid of PyCharm's fantastic code completion, happily typing in: if event.key == pygame.K_DOWN: y = y + 1 There's a moment of magic. I imagine every girl in America, daintily typing out our future. In her face, I see the things that adults would pay a fortune to capture, wonderment, belief, excitement in the aha instant of understanding. The gears click in her head, she presses the Run button on PyCharm, a Pygame window starts up with a pink girl character in the center of the screen. Then, the 3rd grade girl coder presses the down arrow key on her Logitech keyboard. And, the girl on the screen moves down. She talks about Barbie, My Little Pony, Hello Kitty, and Ada Lovelace, creator of the world's first computer algorithm. She knows about Ada Lovelace's work on the Babbage Analytical Engine, because girls talk in 3rd grade, letting the boys know that the world's first computer programmer was female. I hope that their girl power feeling of superiority continues on through high school.

Python
I have researched this subject extensively over the last several years. Most importantly, I have exposure to children between ages 6 and 14 that can program successfully with a text editor or IDE. The short answer is go straight to Python. You can read about my personal experience with my own children here: http://pychildren.blogspot.com... The main child is now 10 and using Python with IDLE and PyCharm. Also suggest you research this site: http://www.learningtech.org/wo... which I also have experience with by sending my own kid to the class. Note the Minecraft plugins from grade 4. Definitely wish I had started my eldest kid earlier as I think that age 8 would have been fine. There's a kid in my daughter's class that is 6 years old and completely killing it with PyGame. I think that I'm going to drop down from PyGame to Python Turtle (logo) with my daughter for a while. Good luck. Feel free to send me a note with your progress. I love hearing from parents with children under age 14 that are using text editors or IDEs.

You believe something Adolph Hitler said?
LOL. You are saying that the founder of Nationalist Socialism did not know what he was talking about, and you know better than he does. I've heard some silly things on the Internet, but this really takes the cake. So are so indoctrinated by socialism that you simply must deny the reality: National Socialism IS a form of socialism.
You think that 1920 Nazi propaganda had something to do with what they actually did? (In fairness, their wholesale adoption of capitalism and courting of industrialists came somewhat later.)
Ah, you see to think that the only kind of socialism is Communism (eg. Soviet Socialism). This is completely untrue. While a Communist economic system is defined as "The Means of Production are controlled by the State, while the Fruits of Production are also controlled by the State", a Fascist/National Socialist economic system is defined as "The Means of Production are in Private Hands while the Fruits of Production are controlled by the State". This is the same system that the Democrats which to impose on America - where companies create wealth but the political class controls what is done with the wealth (eg. how it is distributed).
Read up on some of the things the Nazis did when they came to power. I can only hope that will shake your faith that all totalitarianism was socialist.
I never said that. Please stop inventing false strawmen. While it is true there are other forms of totalitarianism that are not socialist (eg. Islam is totalitarian, but not socialist in the Western sense), it is true that all socialist systems tend toward totalitarianism over time (even Sweden is trending that way - dissent and diversity of opinion is crushed by their political class and media).
Now, Communism is a variation on Socialism. Marx liked to call other forms Utopian Socialism (an ideal that would not work in a world populated with humans) and his form Scientific Socialism (an ideal that would not work in a world populated with humans). Given the various Communist regimes, I'd think you'd find plenty of crimes there.
Communism is merely the political Extreme Left - the State has all the power and the Individual has none. National Socialism and fill-blown Socialism are Far Left - the Collectivist State has nearly all the power and individuals have little. In contrast, the political Right is defined as the State having decreasing power and the individual gaining more and more - you pass through the Mid Right Conservatism/Classic Liberalism (a great deal of Individual Liberty and Limit Government), to far Right Libertarianism (more Individual Liberty and very minimal Government), and then to the Extreme Right of Anarchy (Individuals have all the power and the Government has none).
The following political spectrum shows the continuum between State Power and Individual Liberty (one grows at the expense of the other; the political Left favors the State and the Collective, while the political Right eschews the State in favor of the Individual):

Re:Holy misleading summary, Batman!
Sad Puppies has gamed the system to its destruction. If the response turns out to be counter-slates, then they'll have (perhaps unintentionally) permanently destroyed what they sought to control.
1. Is it your contention that the status quo ante was fine, and the Hugo awards were given out purely by merit? (Before you answer that, consider that John Scalzi won a Hugo for his book that was funny blog postings, and another Hugo for a book that is affectionate fan fiction loosely satirizing Star Trek. Were those works truly the best books published those years?)
2. Do you know anything about statistics? I don't know much, but these numbers do look kind of suspicous to me. (I know, I know, this blog post was written by THE WORST HUMAN EVER but the numbers, the facts, are what matter here.)
http://voxday.blogspot.com/2015/04/their-cunning-plan.html
3. The Sad Puppies guys say that they are striking back against a system where SF works were judged more by who wrote them and which politically correct buttons the works pushed, rather than on actual merit. The SP guys say that their slate includes works by conservatives, and liberals, and white males, and minorities and women... in short they are claiming to focus not on the color of skin, but on the content of the works. Do you claim that this is not true? (Before you answer, you might want to check the list of authors on the SP slate and see how many women and minorities there are, plus check the political world-views of the authors on the slate.)
4. Even if you think the status quo ante was perfect and the SPs are evil despoilers, would you at least agree that if the claims of the SPs were all true, that their games would have been a legitimate response? If a cabal really was secretly promoting a slate and using private emails to coordinate a vote and make sure that "the right people" would win each year, what should have been done? I think promoting a slate out in public, with public discussion, is as good a plan as any and better than most.
5. The people who are loudest about opposing SP have announced that they will vote "No Award" in almost every category; that they encourage everyone to do the same; and further that they won't read any stories on the SP slate, that inclusion in that slate makes the story unacceptable, sight unseen. These people also say that the SP slate will "destroy" the Hugo. IMHO, an organized campaign to vote "No Award" on the basis of politics looks more like "destrying" the Hugo than proposing a slate of stories does. Do you approve of the organized "No Award" campaign?

The Sad Puppies campaign has nothing to do with "minorities and women" winning awards, it had everything to do with Social Justice Warriors taking down and doxxing people for disagreeing with them and trying to impose censorship and speech controls on organizations like SFWA.
In fact this entire, "if you oppose the Social Justice Warrior agenda you hate women and minorities" slight of hand bullshit is one of the very things the sad puppies are fighting against. Thanks for proving the necessity of that fight yet again.

Re:FTEO
How does one respond to incorrect information? I don't know what to tell you, your political spectrum is incorrect as accepted internationally in political science discourse.

That is much close to the political science norm in the definitions of both.
But I thank you for your attempt at reclassifying your fascist tendencies as something belonging to "the other side" instead of something you share willingly with them. -
Re:FTEO
Man, your indoctrination is really complete, isn't it. And your use of slanders of insults betrays the fact you are unable of critical thinking or reasoned debate. So sad that you choose to deny reality, and you help to advance the fascist agenda of the Statist Collectivists who necessarily must crush individual liberty.
I find that to be a fascinating accusation coming from someone who posts a diagram presenting a political spread with terminology supported by only a tiny fraction of people, existing primarily only in the United States, who are regarded by almost all other groups of people to be insane.
Please study the following diagram: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_TI8b... [blogspot.com]
I'll raise you a bullshit blogspot opinion diagram with a bullshit wordpress opinion diagram.

Hell, let's just go with some reading material.

In particular:

The citations are numerous, you may go through them- though many are books used in classical political science courses. In economics terms a Fascist system is one where: The Means of Production remains in private hands, but the Fruits of Production are controlled by the State.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F...
More reading for you.
In a fascist system, everything is controlled by the dictator, for the will of the dictator. Those who play ball are allowed limited autonomy. Simply because the dictator is effectively "the State" does not mean that the economics in play are left-wing, particularly because the State in no way represents the people anymore in an autocratic dictatorship. Fascism is not left-wing economics. It's pre-Magna Carta England economics: Do what I say, or I'll fucking kill you. Hail to the King, baby. This is exactly the system that the Democratic Party of the USA is trying to implement. They chose Barack Obama to help advance this agenda (which he agrees with, if you listen carefully) because of his skin color. This US is so racist it judges people by their skin color, and Barack Obama is immune from criticisms that a white President would have been impeached for. The Left knows this and used it against the population of the US that it seeks to subjugate and control ("for their own good") as it takes a flamethrower to citizen protections in the Constitution.
This is a massive pile of horse shit that you can't begin to back up. While I think most people wouldn't disagree that Democrats are certainly Statists, they're in no way unaligned with the Republicans on this point. It's one of the few things they agree on. The primary disagreement is on protection of the people rendered powerless by both parties, and protections of the Corporations from attack by the people. The social issues are purely red herrings to distract the weak minded.
Do you not understand that Far Left Fascism and Extreme Left Communism were rivals in World War II? It is only disinformation from the communists against their rivals (starting in the schism of the Left in the Spanish Civil War) that calls the Far Left National Socialists "right wing" (which everyone is from the perspective of the Communists of the Extreme Left).
Again, Nazi Germany was far-right. Nazism is far-right. Fascism in general evolved to be far-right everywhere it was instituted. No matter how much you seem to want far-right to be

Smarten up, amigo. Any time the State gets more power it means that citizens MUST necessarily lose some Individual Liberty. This entire article is another perfect demonstration of Barack Obama advancing the fascist anti-citizen agenda of the Far Left, and he has done many such measures.
yes, the "Establishment" Republicans are also Statist Collectivists but are less to the Left. That is why the TEA Party opposes them (because the TEA Party stands for Individual Citizens against the Big State, no matter what they call themselves).

Re:FTEO
Fascism is a form of socialism. It advances the Big State and decreases Individual Liberty. It is a Leftists ideology. Technically, it is the far Left of the Government-Power verses Individual Liberty Spectrum.
National SOCIALISM is a form of socialiism. It is also Far Left. yes, you've heard it repeated endlessly that the Nazis were somehow "right wing". This is completely false and comes from the Communists of the Extreme Left. From their perspective everyone is to the Right of them.
Since the media and many academics are also Extreme Left or Far Left they repeat the falsehood that National Socialism is somehow not socialism and somehow on the Right. This disinformation has been wildly successful and has allowed fascism to re-emerge around the World with the increase in Statist Collectivism which suppresses individual liberty and empowers the State over its citizens.
If you want to understand the actual political spectrum that shows State Power verses Individual Liberty (an increase on one necessarily detracts from the other) then please study the following diagram:

http://chowanriver.blogspot.co...In order for the Collectivists to "win", it means Individuals must lose. This Slashdot article is a perfect example of this, and you can see it everywhere if you look. But the Left will never tell your their secret, that they are not liberal at all, they just use the word as camouflage for their actual agenda - increasing the power of the State over every aspect of your life ("for your own good"). This is evil and deceptive.

Weight loss
Finding the perfect weight loss diet plan can be confusing at times, but it should not be a struggle. You should see fast results when starting a healthy diet, regardless of whether or not you limit calories, because your body will be happy not having to fend off all the bad foods it was being stuffed with before. http://aboutbmicalculator.blog...

Google announced the decision in an update at the bottom of https://googleonlinesecurity.blogspot.com/2015/03/maintaining-digital-certificate-security.html. I'm happy they did: certification authorities need to understand that there are consequences to gross negligence or worse.

Or maybe it was akathisia, and a man who was clinically depressed took medications that made him suicidal/homicidal. These drugs are prescribed without sufficient monitoring, and sometimes the outlier does something horrible.

Re:Climate Change on SlashdotOne doesn't need to understand the complete mathematical proof of Fermat's Last Theorem to understand that there is 1) a proof offered and 2) no-one has shown his proof to be incorrect and it is generally accepted. If there was a dissenting view and it was published, it would be up to anyone to read it and offer support or a rebuttal. With Climate Science however there are many well qualified people that are pointing out errors, wrong assumptions and omissions in the IPCC stance and reports, as well as in the work of scientists. This is good and should be so. To claim however that the science is settled (it never is!), is disingenuous and deceptive and a certain political agenda has hijacked the process for their own nefarious purposes, regardless if one considers it to be a conspiracy or not. Anybody can point out a problem with a scientific theory, regardless of qualification. More-so, anyone can point to evidence not made public or receiving little media coverage. You don't have to be an expert to do that. A good example would be http://hockeyschtick.blogspot.... where it is reported that a qualified scientist has published his report:
- The man-made share of CO2 in the atmosphere is only a maximum of 30% (0-30%). The remainder is related to temperature changes, natural outgassing from the oceans, and to soil moisture.
- The residence time of CO2 in the atmosphere is only 4-7 years, not hundreds of years as falsely claimed by the IPCC Bern model.
- Man-made CO2 emissions increased a whopping 350% faster since 2002, yet the rate of CO2 increase in the atmosphere remained steady at ~2.1 ppm/yr, a "strong indication that anthropogenic emissions can not have a significant or even dominant share."
- His conclusion: "Because of the saturation effect in the energy absorption of CO2 molecules with increasing concentration and short residence time, the further increase in temperature could be therefore only at most a few tenths of a degree, if at all. However, the known fossil reserves would be exhausted by then."
Now, if you want to disprove what he says, your have to go do the science for the next 10 years. There is no point it shouting "denier" or "skeptic", unless you're a shill or just an idiot in general.

Re:that's sad
I expect that as long as we are setting rockets on their ass and blasting them into space, it would not be "rocket science" to design a launch facility that is adaptable to different vehicles and sizes. Re-inventing the wheel is expensive.
Warning - I am an inveterate Rocket slut......
The difference between different Rockets is astounding. My post isn't trying to contradict - I have some fun examples to enjoy
Freedom 7 Mercury launchL
http://voyagerslog.blogspot.co... Alomost unbelievably single. A retaining ring, and a pivoted gantry.
This is almost shocking. There was a tower and elevator that owuld pull away before launch - probably because those early ones were so explodey. But this is darn simple. And we were learning as we went at the same time.
Gemini program. The rocket was more powerful, and thrust effects were getting getting to be a problem, they could wreck a rocket.
Here is a cool photo I'd not seen before - a time exposure photo of Gemini 10 put in place and launched - Love it.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C...
Back to the launchpad itself, now you'll see it is built up some. I'll note that this was a repurposed launch pad, having been used for Titan II rockets. It was abandoned at the end of the Gemini program. The larger thrust required thrust deflectors to avoid damage to both the Pad and rocket. http://www.honeysucklecreek.ne...
Then we move onto the Saturn 1, but lett's ski ahead to the Saturn V.
This was one serious big sumbitch rocket. The days of taking a little rocket out horizontally were gone, replaced with the vertical transport. The sizes were so different that in addition to handling the amount of thrust, everything was bigger.
Which brings us to Launch complex 39 Of Apollo and Shuttle fame.
Now we can repurpose things if needed. The pads are large enough to handle Saturn V's, so they could be modified for shuttle use, and at present 39A is being modified for Spacex Falcon Rockets, and 39B launchpad is going to be used for SLS. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K...
That's the long version with pictures. The tl;dr version is that the early launch pads were rendered useless as the Rocket power grew, and building new pads was happening whaile th eold ones were in use. Even getting the Rocket for the Apollo-Soyuz mission gusseted up required changes The Saturn 5 Rocket was just too much oomph to send a stripped down Apollo to low earth orbit, the pads that were used for the Saturn 5 launchpad were used because the Pads normally used for that Rocket were not operational any longer, so they strapped on a Saturn 1-B with what was called a milkstool. The photo shows the concept.
