Re:RUSSIAN HACKERS
You conveniently leave out the key detail: Hillary Clinton was never involved in the deal. You further leave out that the Canadian government was also involved and had to sign off on the deal.
You also leave out that in addition to the State Department there were eight other agencies involved with the deal, including the Director of National Intelligence.
But I guess in your fantasy world Hillary was able to cajole all these people, including a foreign government, to make the deal because in a round-about manner her foundation received legal foreign donations from a country who was in negotiation to buy a uranium mine, a deal in which she was never involved with. Yeah, sounds completely plausible. -
DNS = inefficient, slower & security issue rid
See subject & see 100's of DNS issues in security + resource overuse in 18 categories enumerated here (hosts have no such issues & = faster vs. remote DNS, use less power vs. locally installed DNS doing more for less w/ what you have natively already in Windows) https://news.slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=9007355&threshold=-1&commentsort=0&mode=thread&pid=51969075/
* Keep failing in 'championing' adds (that don't work 'souled-out' to advertisers to NOT DO THE 1 JOB THEY HAVE http://www.businessinsider.com/google-microsoft-amazon-taboola-pay-adblock-plus-to-stop-blocking-their-ads-2015-2/ & DNS (see link of its faults in security & efficiency + speed above).

P.S.=> Gb's of memory used by DNS is listed in the 1st link above too - even after 20++ yrs. building my hosts file & NOT DELETING ENTRIES (test to see how big it is before performance hits) I'm only into the MB range (many orders of magnitude less)... apk

Re:No one cares
I didn't vote for either Trump or Hillary --- but if you look at what actually happened, you don't need conspiracy theories to explain it.
But that's the thing, too many people on the Trump side are explaining it as...something it is not. That's what has come up here.
Hillary won the east and west coasts, very much as you might have expected. She won them big and that's the main reason for her overall popular vote win.
She lost in conservative states where you would expect that.
The pollsters and pundits misread the situation on the ground in states like Michigan, which they thought Hillary would win, but instead went over to Trump by fairly narrow margins.
Ah, you should look at some maps..
This appears to be more to do with the economy, jobs, etc., than leaked emails and the like.
Well, it's not because they love Donald Trump. He's now not unfavorable by 2/3 of the country! That's soaring...to new lows.
Of course, all of this can be debated endlessly, but what is there about the election that really leads to a credible theory of manipulation, fraud, and hacking? The fact that Hillary lost is not exactly evidence.
You may or may not be disappointed with the outcome. You may or may not be happy that Trump will be president. But there certainly seems to be a fairly simple and fairly logical explanation for the outcome. That seems a lot stronger than conspiracy theories.
Bzzt, error, error. You're in the wrong section of the thread. This is the section of the thread where we're talking about how Trump's win is not a landslide, is not clearly showing how the American people are speaking, and ultimately how Trump's a lying braggart.
I mean, if you want to discuss something, we could ask ourselves why Wisconsin has the lowest turnout since 2000. Why Michigan had so many problems. Why Pennsylvania election officials lied to potential voters. We could do that. But we won't.

Re:Selling private repositories is their money mak
Oh, how naive you are. When the sh*t hits the fan, an SLA isn't going to make a difference to your customers when you tell them "yes, it's broken but we have an SLA."
Salesforce brags about a 99.9% uptime. So I guess that being off-line for 20 hours, and being unable to recover 4 hours of customer data, is okay because hey, you have an SLA.
BTW, 99.9% uptime is shitty - that's more than 8 hours a year. Would you be happy with your toilet or fridge if it went down for 8 hours, never mind 20?
-
Re:And on January 21...
Shouldn't Freedom of speech have a higher priority than a vague "we have the right to make money"?
Not according to Republicans.
Ummm, it's DEMOCRATS that have a problem with the First Amendment and free speech.
TIME WARNER CEO: The 'real threat' to the First Amendment came from Democrats, not Trump
Time Warner CEO Jeff Bewkes told Business Insider's Henry Blodget on Tuesday that the "real threat" to the First Amendment did not come from President-elect Donald Trump during the campaign, but rather from the Democratic Party.
...Bewkes said he didn't "think that's a serious thing," adding that "we should all worry" if someone were seeking to change the First Amendment. He suggested that came from the Democratic Party, which "had a campaign plank to change the First Amendment, and they were doing it in the guise of campaign finance reform."
"And that was worrying me more," Bewkes said. "The press tends to miss that because they tend to lean that way, and therefore they were supporting what they were viewing — I think overly charitably — as something in cleaning up money in politics when in fact what it would do is restrain multiple voices."
Because anyone who claims that Democrats "want to get the money out of politics" is FULL OF SHIT.
The first thing anyone who wants to "get money out of politics" would do is ban public employee unions from contributing to political campaigns - that's nothing but government for the government by the government. Sound like a familiar complaint?

Re:"Fact" Checkers
Forbes has a pretty good article covering Politifact's issues related to their truthiness judging.
In 2008, Politifact rated as True Obama's claim that if you like your plan you can keep it. The Forbes article notes that the author of that truth-o-meter article didn't check with any health-care skeptics.
In 2009, Politifact changed their rating for the claim to 1/2 true.
In 2013, Politifact labeled it the "lie of the year."
Politifact's 2008 rating was "widely repeated by pro-Obama reporters and pundits, and had a meaningful impact on the outcome of the election."
So, was Politifact's wrong analysis of Obama's 2008 claims "fake news?"
Were they lying or just being too lazy.
When they judge Trump's claim that Obama was the founder of ISIS in the literal sense but don't rate Hillary's comment that Trump is a recruiting sergeant for ISIS at all, either literally or metaphorically, then yes, I'll claim that Politifact is lying or at least intentionally distorting the truth.
Facebook absolutely has the right to determine what gets posted on their site and people have the right to use their product or not. The government on the other hand has no business promoting censorship of anything, including fake news. Fake news isn't new and people have a personal responsibility to explore the "truthiness" of what they read, hear and see.

Re:Proof! [that liberals are stupid]

Timeo the Government et dona ferentes
My Latin is rusty, but the sentiment should be clear — the government should stay away from the industry and the markets. Its only legitimate role is to enforce laws and contracts.
Trying to boost certain industries, while a welcome contrast to the previous Administrations' attempts to sabotage some, is just as suspicious and ultimately unfair.
Maybe it is Ok for the State department to champion American companies abroad. Hopefully, Trump is not planning to go beyond the above listed activities and will not, as President, repeat the stunt he pulled with Carrier as President-elect.

AB+ = inferior & souled out vs. hosts
I don't just think it - I know it. Here's proof: Adblock can't do (or do as well) 16 things hosts do 4 speed, security & reliability:
1.) Protect vs. bad sites (past ads)
2.) Protect vs. fastflux botnet C&C servers
3.) Protect vs. dynamic dns botnet C&C servers
4.) Protect vs. DGA botnet C&C servers
5.) Protect vs. downed DNS (reliability)
6.) Protect vs. DNS redirect poisoned/downed dns
7.) Protect vs. trackers
8.) Protect vs. spam payloads
9.) Protect vs. phish payloads
10.) Protect vs. caps
11.) Get past dns blocks
12.) Keep off dns request logs
13.) Speed up 2 ways (adblocks & hardcodes)
14.) Work on anything webbound multiplatform.
15.) Ez data edit
16.) Block ads more efficiently in cpu/ram/I-O useAPK

Re:Cue the hipocrisy...
While nobody wants a huge abusive spy agency tracking Americans at all times, there are going to be plenty of people on here jumping up and down hoping for the destruction of the NSA... while simultaneously running around like chickens with their heads cut off claiming that Russian Hackers are the sole reason that Trump is president.
Seriously, WTF is this comment and why is it (currently) +4 Interesting?
#1. Many, many people who have been most critical of the NSA's activities have been skeptical of the claim that Russian hackers are the sole reason Trump is president. This includes Glenn Greenwald as well as many in the security community who don't take leaked reports of CIA briefings at face value. I'm not seeing anyone who is anti-NSA spying wholesale accepting the CIA's story. So the premise of your point is not correct.
#2. Even if they DID accept the Putin story... There is no inherent conflict between not wanting a "huge abusive spy agency tracking Americans at all times" and wanting an agency to protect against foreign attack (if one has occurred, which as I said is not certain).
#3. The NSA has done very little that would have prevented the hacks, while actually having done very much to weaken national security-- the kind of thing that facilitates break-ins. They have compromised security algorithms and pushed the RSA to accept them as standards. They have deliberately inserted weaknesses into Cisco products. There are numerous examples of this. If the "Russians" has hacked us because of weak technology, the NSA very well could be to blame. The assumption that they're some kind of shield against attacks appears to be backwards.
#4. Podesta's emails were reportedly hacked via social engineering. Explain to me how you think the NSA's role has been stopping human beings from typing in their own Gmail login information when tricked to do so.
#5. Finally, elucidate on the connection you make between a "huge spy agency tracking Americans at all times" and an alleged nation state hacking campaign. What the hell does the surveillance state agency spying on all citizen activity have to do with these hacks? If anything, the alleged influence of Russian agents in our election occurred WHILE the mass-spying is occurring. Therefore, by your logic, the NSA should stop all spying to stop Putin. Right?. Right??
In short, your post makes no sense, it is not "insightful"-- it connects dots that don't have anything to do with each other. Worse, it is in some ways dangerous because it is really an attack on questioning authority. There is zero contradiction in opposing an all-powerful state surveillance agency on one hand vs. a corrupted electoral system on the other.
Not to mention that those reports of foreigners meddling in our election originate from an agency with a notorious decades of history in... well, meddling with foreign elections.

Re: Who is doing the building?
K. S. Kyosuke, We don't know how humans solve problems, so how can we know anything about the fidelity of so-called AI? For example, how does a human look at a chess board and evaluate positions to determine the next move? Nobody knows. Computers do an exhaustive search of available moves to a certain depth, which humans are incapable of, so that disproves your claim straight off.

Crybaby democrats just won't stop
Their panicky call for censorship is getting louder every day. Suck it up, bitches! You lost, and you deserved it! Be grateful that the opposition didn't win either. Your machine is still intact.

President Obama should heed his own words
The president, campaigning in Miami for Hillary Clinton and Senate candidate Chris Murphy, said that “when you try to sow the seeds of doubt in people’s minds about the legitimacy of our elections, that undermines our democracy.” But I guess it's OK to undermine democracy if the results aren't to your liking?

Re:defense versus health and human services.
Helpful chart. The problem isn't primarily that US life expectancy is low (though it is somewhat lower than Europe's), but that there's so little bang for the buck.

China's Monster Three Gorges Dam
Raising 39 trillion kilograms of water 175 meters above sea level will increase the Earthâ(TM)s moment of inertia and thus slow its rotation. However, the effect would extremely small. NASA scientists calculated that shift of such as mass would increase the length of day by only 0.06 microseconds and make the Earth only very slightly more round in the middle and flat on the top. It would shift the pole position by about two centimeters (0.8 inch). Note that a shift in any objectâ(TM)s mass on the Earth relative to its axis of rotation will change its moment of inertia, although most shifts are too small to be measured (but they can be calculated). http://www.businessinsider.com...

Addons = inferior & inefficient vs. hosts
They can't do (or do as well) 16 things hosts do 4 speed, security & reliability:
1.) Protect vs. bad sites (past ads)
2.) Protect vs. fastflux C&C
3.) Protect vs. dynamic dns C&C
4.) Protect vs. DGA C&C
5.) Protect vs. downed DNS (reliability)
6.) Protect vs. DNS redirect poisoned/downed dns
7.) Protect vs. trackers
8.) Protect vs. spam payload
9.) Protect vs. phish payload
10.) Protect vs. caps
11.) Get past dns blocks
12.) Keep off dns requestlogs
13.) Speed up 2 ways (adblocks & hardcodes)
14.) Work on things webbound multiplatform.
15.) Ez data edit
16.) Block ads more efficiently (cpu/ram/I-O)
17.) UBlock now uses hosts (no DNS benefits vs. dns issues) - poor imitation = "sincerest form of flattery"APK
P.S.=> They do less & less efficiently:
AB+ 151mb http://cdn.ghacks.net/wp-conte...
UBlock 64MB http://cdn.ghacks.net/wp-conte...
(hosts ~ 6mb)

Yes & I shut you down @ every turn
See subject: Adblock's paid off to NOT block ads by Google http://www.businessinsider.com... & it doesn't WORK as well as hosts on that level too (& tons more) & you say it's faster vs. hosts? Not http://superuser.com/questions...
Where's WORK you have done in a program that works against this?
My other posts here in this very discussion show security guides I've done since 1997 online & I use MANY "layered-security"/"defense-in-depth" measures for it (even being paid for it) - how about you??
Guys like you amaze me - why? I've SEEN & DEFEATED weak "arguments" like yours MANY TIMES on this site alone many times before, easily. You're an amateur.
(That's why you're posting AC, to downmod ALL MY POSTS almost when they shut you down too... weak!)
APK
P.S.=> Hosts work here & my work's good enough to be hosted & recommended by the likes of Malwarebytes' folks - is yours?... apk
-
Malwarebytes know me & google pays adblock
See subject: "Steven Burn" can verify it. He audited my code for safety + recommends & hosts it on his website (part of malwarebytes).
* Not going to sites I don't know protects me too (along with TONS of other security measures I use, some I have noted to you & have done guides on since, oh, 1997 online ala https://www.google.com/search?... (which I was even PAID FOR in some cases, wasn't expected - guess those guides are just THAT good!)
APK
P.S.=> Google LIKES "AlmostALLAdsBlocked" - why? It's PAID OFF NOT TO WORK (by Google & others) & here's your proof http://www.businessinsider.com... mine's not, nor will it EVER be so what You're FALSELY ACCUSING ME OF? What you like is DOING IT, not I, lol... give up already! apk

Re:Somebody mod this story down
No, not every piece of right wing journalism is fake, but enough that stories from them should be suspect.
Further, neither did I say anything about Russian spies. I said Russian trolls who, as you pointed out, deliberately try to insert enough fake "news" or falsify factual stories to divert attention or obscure facts. As I pointed out in my original post, Russian trolls will mod me down to try and prevent people from seeing the truth of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. When confronted with the truth they go into overdrive in St. Petersburg in attempt to do everything to discredit the facts, most specifically going after either the person posting the facts (me) or where the story comes from.
Even when Putin admitted he sent Russian troops into Crimea to steal it, Russian trolls still denied their dear leader's own words. They made every excuse for why the story was fake EXCEPT for the fact those are Putin's own words. In other words, even facts coming out of Putin's mouths are lies in the world of Russian trolls.
And that is what this about: countering blatant lies with the truth. Using facts to pummel trolls, get them to twist themselves into such a ball of anger they climb over themselves in a vain attempt to extricate themselves from the ball of lies they've spewed. It's quite funny to watch them first deny the facts, then attempt to deflect, then finally come full circle and deny their own words. What's especially funny is they're so simple minded it's very easy to get them to admit they're Russian trolls. Since they're all using the same script handed to them from their handlers, they use the same words and phrases in every post so their comments stick out like a sore thumb. -

Wish we'd come up with the name "fake news" soonerA bit off-topic but:
Foxconn is a tech manufacturing giant. It makes a lot of things, including laptops for HP, phones for Apple, games consoles for Sony, and its workers so depressed it has to install suicide nets.
That was fake news. The suicide rate at Foxconn was lower than that of the U.S. at the time of the spike in suicides. The Foxconn suicide myth spread and persists for the same reason other fake news spreads and persists - the people spreading it want to believe it's true, and thus pass it on without first vetting it with a healthy dose of skepticism.
Except in this case the people spreading it are journalists in the mainstream media, whose job it is to review these stories with a critical eye before publishing them. They want to believe factory workers in developing nations were being exploited by western corporations and thus were more prone to attempt suicide, so they recklessly published these stories perpetuating the myth, and still do. Foxconn installed the nets to try to make the Western media shut up, not because there was a greater suicide problem there than anywhere else. I have no love for Apple or Chinese assembly line labor, but this is one criticism they don't deserve. -
Re:That can't be right
Talking about debt isn't helping your case any. Here's the deficit (change in debt) from year to year: Link
Why is that Republicans keep blowing the budget? Well, let's look at the case of Bush. Wow, whodathunkit, massive tax breaks to top income earners skyrockets debt, news at 11! And yes, having the government hawk itself into debt is great for the short term strength of the stock market.
Re, debt outlook under Trump: absolutely not if he enacts his "Bush Tax Cuts+++ proposal.

Re:Wearables is a fad that's petering out.
"Fitbit isn't doing as well as they were and I see them just sticking to high end stuff and maybe some more acquisitions of other wearable products and companies."
This was a pretty good prediction:
"Fitbit is on the brink of buying smartwatch maker Pebble for around just $40 million"

Shareholders Don't Understand the Strategy
The strategy is to become a tax on innovation.
Why would Microsoft want to push their own platform, when they can tax Android vendors without having to support any product?
This bullshit "Intellectual Property" strategy has been ingenious and successful.

Re:And the leftist position is?
All you leftists have is anger and hate.
I can call Trump all the names I want. He isn't a group or an entire race. He is basically the ultimate con man who gladly uses racism, lies, bullying and personal attacks to get his way. What do you think that birther crap was? It was exploiting deep seated racism to promote his brand. He did that for five years and then blamed it all on someone else. It is a common theme for trump to attack his opponents for his own character flaws. Hell the NewYork times barely managed to fit them all in. Trump's Insults

Re:employee improvement plan
2) Fire them. Hire somebody else that you hope will perform better.
This is what Amazon's stack ranking does.
Other companies that use HR policies like forced raking have similar creeping problems. Companies like Google and Yahoo use it even though it is a toxic idea from Microsoft. It's an HR policy so bad that Microsoft got rid of it after losing nearly a decade worth of productivity.
If you've never experienced it, the best description is somewhere between 'Hunger Games for IT' and 'Crony Capitalism applied to employee retention.' But it is a fabulous way to justify paying huge bonuses to the "top" 1% while firing people you don't like.
