Re:Worse
A partnership between hardware manufacturers and cellphone companies is likely to emerge.
I see a potential market for directional (or very short-range - place atop TV) cell phone repeaters that provide the 3G/4G/whatever equivalent of a null route.

Re:Worse
What you could do is send a page to your neighbour's printer explaining that it's not secured and that anyone can send anything to it.
If the neighbour has children, he would not want someone sending pornography on the printer. Or imagine the wife finding the prints before the husband.
Or if someone hates the family, they could send fake drug/crime/etc-related paperwork/notes to the printer and then call the SWAT team to their house.
The dangers of an open WiFi printer are real.

Re:Bitcoin?
Of course, with Bitcoins anyone can follow the price and buy/sell at the right times. You can even bypass the exchange to fiat currency and exchange your gains for a more stable coin, like EarthCoin.
-
Bitcoin?
Hackers and conspirators in more than a dozen countries generated hundreds of millions of dollars in illicit proceeds on pump-and-dump stock schemes and particularly lucrative online gambling, prosecutors said.
Are they also responsible for the sudden surge and fall of the Bitcoin value in the last week or so? It went up to USD$475 before falling down to USD$325.

Re:Good way to stop this...
But you will watch the shows and movies you want to watch, so even within that inaccurate profile there's going to be a percentage of good data. Which is probably more than enough to still track you and try to sell things that matter to you, so you're not stopping anything.

Re:What worked for me
Same as me! I only have a 27" computer monitor connected to an Apple TV to watch movies from iTunes, Netflix, Hulu, Crunchy Roll and Crackle!
-
Re:Worse
Did you really disable all the networking features? Would it still be possible for it to connect to a network via WiFi? What if the company is doing exactly that but isn't even listing that feature in the configuration settings? How would you know if it's connecting to a neighbour's open WiFi? You can't monitor what happens on your neighbour's WiFi.
-
Use a computer monitor
What's the difference between a TV and a computer monitor? They both have HDMI inputs and most people will be using external set-top boxes anyway. The real problem is finding a regular 1080p computer monitor bigger than 23~27".

Re:Just to note...
Well, there is the new problem of programmers compiling their software with an infected, not-downloaded-from-Apple version of XCode. I'm not quite sure if Apple can catch 100% of those that get sent to the App Store, but that's one major security risk IMHO. And I say that as an OS X user.
That version of XCode was downloaded from a Chinese non-Apple source. I would imagine that Apple is going to modify XCode fairly soon so that it makes sure it is not modified before allowing a Build Application to happen, or maybe even a Launch of XCode.

Re:That's special...
Safari > Preferences > Advanced > Show Develop menu in menu bar
You only need to do that once to enable the new menu. After that, if a website gives you "Flash is required to view the video", try the following:
Develop > User Agent > Safari iOS X.X - iPad
If the website does support iOS/iPad, it'll be sending your browser HTML5 code linked to a standard H.264 video file that will play without any problem.
Cool, thanks! Maybe I'll give that a try. I have to admit, I do far more web-browsing on the iPad than my MBP anyway, though.

Re:This article has been brought to you by
Wow, that new company should get some lawyers ASAP because I'm quite sure Microsoft will sue them for using a company name similar to their own.

At what point can we just shoot them?
Nuke them from orbit - it's the only way to be sure.

Re:Noise?
I've recruited over 40 players so far, so I'm sad to confirm polls that say spam works. And these are from Slashdot readers, who also hate spam. But it's also the same Slashdot readers that know about bitcoins, so I guess bitcoins beat spam.

Really?
I thought both formats died long ago. The question is, should we stock-pile those things? Will they easily sell on eBay at much higher prices in 2017?

Re:But People
This sounds ideal, until "that guy" moves in.
... The one that has loud sex.The communal paradise envisioned here seems perfect... until you add people.
To summarise: it is a well known fact that those people who most want to live that way are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it. To summarise the summary: anyone who is able of getting such a room should on no account be allowed to do so. To summarise the summary of the summary: people are a problem.

Re:Not supported on most platforms anymore
Flash was never supported on iOS and Adobe Flash has not been installed by default on OS X for years now.

Noise?
Game room + TV room = a lot of noise, probably a lot coming from subwoofers too. Prepare to fight for your right to have some peace and quiet.

Re:Not new
Is that a real link? The summary made me paranoid.
Just another dumb cunt who can't comprehend what <a href> and </a> tags are for. Like dumb bastards who write "it's" when they meant "its", confuse there/their/they're, or pronounce "nuclear" as "nyoo-kee-lar", these are all sure signs that they're a fucking moron and whatever bullshit they espouse is not worth your attention.

Apple has a patent on universal search.
Apple's patent is invalid. The company Ck3Kl0t from Alpha Centauri registered that patent roughly two millennia ago.

Re:Should help Linux in the long run
While I agree on the whole "hero fantasy" aspect for single-player games, for PvP the only thing aim assist gives to the gamepad players is a false sense of skills. There's a reason why most games won't allow console players vs PC/Mac players.
-
Re:Should help Linux in the long run
We're talking about aim assist for a gamepad vs mouse and keyboard and you bring real guns into the discussion? What for? We're talking about videogames here. I might as well call you an weakling for using a firearm instead of a nuclear nuke, that would make as much sense.
-
Ignorants
As usual, the people in charge of the law have no idea how technology works.
To make a car analogy... well, this thing is so mind-bogglingly stupid that I can't think of any analogy.
-
Re:Should help Linux in the long run
And because the stupid console games have "aim assist" because gamepads suck for first-person shooters, they keep thinking they're great players and that the mouse+keyboard combo suck.
-
That's easy!
According to two reports in The Information, Google is now looking for other partners, and may even jump into chip design itself.
All they have to do is contact Apple, I've heard they've been designing their own chips for a while now.

Re:[Titan sands] ... blown by the wind on Earth
I can't wait until 2620 so people stop making that stupid joke once and for all.
I can't wait until people stop making jokes at all. After all, what purpose do they serve? They merely distract the weak-minded from the serious business of leveraging synergies for maximisation of disruptive innovations in the digital marketplace.

Re:Queue the PCMasterRace kids
The PS4 just hit 500 games. I have over that in my Steam library and I barely play video games. (They're mostly from various bundle deals so I have a ton of games I have no intention of playing.)
Even if you only play 1/10th of your library, you can't say you "barely play video games". My own Steam library doesn't even have 20 games in it and I play a few games every week.
