Awsome, pink Iphone
Sounds like a feature to me, save me $200 for getting it painted: http://www.colorwarepc.com/p-182-iphone-3gs.aspx

Re:Doesn't surprise me
Especially amoungst the girls where they think it's a fashion acessory to go with their iPods...now if the Macbook only came in pink!
Is "Cotton Candy" close enough? -
Re:Interesting
Actually since I got my (4G) iPod from Colorware, and they painted the clickwheel with the same paint as the rest of the case, it feels the same, but there is a slight gap between the wheel and the case to let you know which you are on. But the thing I think works best about the clickwheel is the clicking action itself. Think of the mouse (for lack of a better description) button on a laptop. Would you rather have it, or be forced to tap the touchpad to "click" on things? I like having a physical tactile response when pressing a button. It would be like trying to type on this. Highly unsatisfying, IMHO.

custom paint job
not quite an accessory, but I got my ipod through colorware with a custon black paint job.
This was back before you could buy black ipods, but still mine's less of a piano black, instead its a metalic black.
I keep mine in a case that only exposes the controls, and there is one scratch on the controls, but it's hard to notice. similarly, it does pick up some fingerprints but theyr harder to notice than those on apples black ipods.
Even with the extra paint, touch controls work perfectly.
And besides the cool paint job, there customer service is great. they fixed my ipod when the firmware locked up so bad I couldn't rebood it (I thought it was dead, but they got it working that time) and they replaced it when the hard drive died 6-7 months after purchase. both times they did it without hasseling me at all.

It's a feature!
Apparently, some people would pay extra to have a yellow MacBook.

And I paid $700 extra to get mine painted!

Re:Interesting demographic?
Well, if you're willing to shell out a little more money...

Re:Black?
Nope. The question is, is having a black Apple laptop worth the additional money to you to make it that way?

Re:By the way...You can buy coloured skins for iPods, or even buy iPods that have been repainted for you if you really want a black or different coloured one.
Of course, it does come at a higher price (though sans U2 branding).
Cheapest alternative: one iPod, a Sharpie, and lots of patience

colorware
since everyone else has mentioned using macs or mac cases, i would say colorware deserves a mention
though they aren't apple-only anyway -
U2 iPod
I was really looking forward to this, not because I'm a U2 fan per se, but because a black iPod did sound immensely cool. I thought it would look like an official version of this. Just a few problems, I now realise. The click-wheel is ugly, it only stores 20gb, and it's only available in the US. Damn.

Re:Black now, full spectrum next
If you want a shiny black iBook now, just check out ColorWare, they'll do it for you.
-
Any color you want
You could also get your iPod colored however you want from ColorWare.. or buy one pre-colored from them direct. Looks pretty cool.

...but you're an asshole?
1) You lazy douche. I've got 300 CDs, and I ripped my entire collection in about a week and a half. I did it for about two hours per night-- by which I mean I did other stuff on the computer and/or watched TV the entire time, and just popped the next CD in when the computer spit out the one it had just finished.
2) Downloading your entire collection by FireWire certainly is quicker, because you only have to do it once. Copying a single, newly-ripped CD to the iPod takes about the same time it would take you to put a CD into your CD Walkman.
Also, is carrying around your entire music collection in your shirt pocket or the glove box of your car possible with CDs? Thought not.
3) You can get them in other colors if you really want to.
4) So buy whatever headphones you prefer, the wired remote will accept a generic 1/8" stereo minijack.
5) Whatever, dude. Somewhere between one and two million people who bought iPods so far this year disagree with you. -
Re:considerably tweaked? yes
There are on the go playlists and better backlighting + a new game. 6.5 hours is NOT atrocius - it's not great, but I have no other means of carrying that much music in that small and conveiniant/efficient package... and playing breakout, solitare
;) + holding all of my programs that I use in my daily Apple Technical service
Go to colorware if you need a color or just buy a mini that already has good battery life and comes in colors.
Or you could just go the cheap route and by one of the 100's of different protective skins. -
Re:A black faceplate
Go to colorwarepc.com and have them paint it for you.
OR
you could just get a mini - I would imagine the colors will be mixed up a little bit in it's next generation.
OR
You could get a black exoskin for it.

Re:60GB iPod as a Storage device
Colored iPods
They'll even match your earbud, iPod Dock, and iTrip FM Transmitter. -
Re:That's what you get...
...for being cheap and uber-stylish. For $50 more you could have had a regular iPod with way more storage, but noooooo, you HAD to get an Apple MP3 player in something other than white!
If you want a 15 GB iPod in color, check these guys out. They'll even paint your existing iPod if you're willing to send it in. -
Re:Slashdotters==Curmudgeons?
Well, you're in luck. Colorware sells painted Apple (and some non-Apple) hardware and will also paint your existing iPod or Powerbook or iBook.

Is Lightning close enough?

Damn You Apple!!
Just purchased a 10GB iPod for my fiancee for Christmas.
She'll never fill it up, and I knew that, but she wanted an iPod.
Now there are smaller ones that are $200 cheaper, and in colors as well, after I shelled out another $50 and got a custom paint job on it at ColorWare.
Apple, damn you! -
