Re:Disorder
They had symbian the next generation as in symbian^4 - but killed it before release and then made belle, an upgraded symbian^3. IMO this wasn't probably that bad of a thing, except they did it kind of late(technically symbian^4 didn't offer that much of anything you couldn't do on ^3, it would have been less of a hassle for developers though - you could get a source version of one symbian^4 release from symbian btw, and have a working homescreen working through qt for windows inside windows).
Meltemi was probably real but not on public roadmaps, though Elop slipped it on video. http://www.digitoday.fi/mobiili/2012/02/17/meltemi-hanke-lipsahti-elopilta/201223475/66 . the whole project was sort of street knoweledge in Finland though not sure if too many took it seriously, I mean many people probably though that the project existed but not that anything meaningful would come out of it - besides who gives a fuck about a closed linux system running linux? it would have just made the life easier for a subset of Nokians while making base device costs more expensive for running the same UI. it wasn't the actual development that was the problem for s40 or symbian, that's just technical banging out - the problem was that whoever was in charge of what the UI would actually be couldn't make up his mind about it for _years_. or if he could he never bothered to tell the tech guys.

Re:Everyone ignores Commodore
I bet Jack Tramel's death won't get the kind of coverage that Steve Jobs got.
Funny. I opened up a prominent Finnish technology news site that seems to worship the ground upon which modern-time gadget makers walk on - sure enough, no mention of Tramiel yet.
Open up the news from the national broadcasting company? Boom. That's in the foreign news section, so that's fairly prominent. Dennis M. Ritchie's death was relegated to the "science and technology" section. Oh boo hoo.
(Yes, they covered Steve Jobs too. Who didn't?)
I was only half-heartedly hoping Tramiel's death would be reported in national news, but I was not surprised that they actually did that. Commodore computers were pretty damn popular here back in the day.

In Finland we are supposed to use box cutter.
Elisa, the largest mobile operator in Finland saidthat they start selling micro-sim cards in june. Their product manager Panu Lehti suggested that if you need micro-sim before that you should use a box cutter.
Sorry, only in Finnish

Re:Is this even illegal?
I don't know about the getting copies part, but Sanasto Ry was founded three years ago and the first thing they did was ask money from libraries. Finnish article from 2006.......
wow!!!
I checked it out in Australia if there is more than 50 copies of your book in a public library you get payed. Its called public lending right.
http://www.arts.gov.au/books/lending_rights/public_lending_right_-_guidelines_for_claimants
However in the article they were only talking small amounts.
Makes me wonder, How tight assed are the finns?

Re:Is this even illegal?I don't know about the getting copies part, but Sanasto Ry was founded three years ago and the first thing they did was ask money from libraries. Finnish article from 2006
On Sanasto's frontpage, they mention that they got their demands. Sanasto's homepageMinistry of Education has on November of 2008 named Sanasto, Kopiosto and Teosto responsible for dividing lending compensations for creators. Lending compensation is a copyright compensation for creators from books lend out from libraries.
(Opetusministeriö on marraskuussa 2008 nimennyt Sanaston, Kopioston ja Teoston tilittämään tekijöille tulevat lainauskorvaukset. Lainauskorvaus on kirjastoista lainattavien teosten lainaamisesta suoritettava tekijänoikeuskorvaus tekijöille.)

Re:No limit
[...] In their eastern neighbour Finland I pay about
... 0-10€ per month 1Mbps (HomePNA) line. (I'm yet to receive a bill for that connection after 9 months, no idea if they have just forgot me or if it's included in the rent.)[...] Where I live a 10/10 Mbps (fiber) connection with no restraints costs about 1000€/month plus 1500€ installation.
Ouch! Where do you live?
I live about 20km from Kuopio. I have 20/2Mbps fiber with IP TV for euro55 per month, and 100/10Mbps is available for euro75 per month. No throttling or caps have been observed - there's a shared 10Gbps switch. Installation was a couple of hundred euro or thereabouts (I don't recall the price exactly).
Interestingly, this fiber net+TV service was introduced by KPY, but since they were acquired by DNA, information on it has been progressively removed from the web, and I suspect plans for extending it have been scaled back.

Re:Context on Kyyrä's comment
On another note, different Finnish associations acting on behalf of performing artists have sent an address to Finnish ministers supporting the new law.
The only trouble is, that the names on behalf of the address are not used in the context of the law proposal and in some cases the "signees" haven't even been informed of this.
Some artists have now expressed outrage on unconsented use of their name.
Talk about machinations...

The U.S. and Finnish cases are unrelated
According to a Finnish news site http://www.digitoday.fi/ (in Finnish), the cases are unrelated. At least this is the official statement of the Finnish Central Crime Police. The Finnish investigation was started a couple of months ago by request of an unnamed instance whose rights were violated. The unconfirmed assumption is that the request was made by Microsoft (of Finland).

Similar kind of opinions have been heard here in scandinavia, apparently atleast in Sweden, Denmark and Finland. If you understand finnish, here's the article.

Re:Linuxes in a public library
And now they are going to upgrade their other systems to Win2k and WinXP. Why? Because it will save them 30% a year ( Digitoday.fi, finnish language ).
