Re:This is just not good
A. They did release the photos.
B. The photos were not of Iraqi war dead. They were of the Columbia space shuttle astronauts. -

Re:Wait... so you're telling me...
Stop reading drudge. Air America (though terribly pulpy - not nearly up to the level of NPR) was put back on the air, and your favorite tabloidnews website neglected to mention that update.
What was that again? Have a look at this article and then talk to me about not following up. Air America is dead. Cry me a river.

Re:Old media get a free pass as well...
For those of you that have no idea wtf Isikoff's story was:
Conservative (and unreadably lame) Drudge's original story
Liberal Salon's slant
Liberal (for the US) BBC's slant
Washington Post's slant
I'd call the Washington Post conservative & pro-big gov't at the same time, but I'm a Liberal (big L). My pinko parents used to think the Washington Post is the bee's knees. Now we're pro-secession San Franciscans. I'm convinced that when the big one hits, it'll be the rest of North America that falls into the ocean. -
Google's future
Google is simply the best search tool. Their other products have much more limited appeal:
Google News - is less concise and useful than subscription services or even that sensationalist site that everyone loves to hate.
Froogle - cannot overcome the lack of standards in the ecommerce world to make full ecommerce catalogs searchable.
The idea of "another os layer" is silly. Google is an application. Email is an application. It's not an OS. -
Matt DrudgeMatt Drudge is pretty handsome.
I'd suck his cock and relieve him of his pathological conservatism if I ever met him...

Google to electronically 'read' subscriber's email
Google's Gmail Raises Privacy Concern
See also LA Times
Fri Apr 02 2004 00:33:23 ET
Privacy advocates are concerned that there's one big flaw with Google Inc.'s free e-mail service: The company plans to read the messages.
LA TIMES reporting on Friday: The Internet search firm insists that it needs to know what's in the e-mails that pass through its system -- so that they can be sprinkled with advertisements Google thinks are relevant. After all, revenue from those targeted ads will pay for the Gmail service, which began a limited test Thursday, offering up to 500 times as much e-mail storage as competing Web e-mail programs from Yahoo Inc. and Microsoft Corp.
The TIMES adds: The electronic letters won't be read by Google employees; computers will handle that chore. Nonetheless, the spector of seeing an ad for an antacid beside a message from a friend complaining about stomach pain is enough to make some people nervous about the e-mail service.
"There will undoubtedly be some folks that will see this and freak out," said Ray Everett-Church, chief privacy officer for TurnTide Inc., an anti-spam company in Conshohocken, Pa. The aggressive advertising strategy may put a damper on Google's biggest move yet away from its core business of Internet search. After reading the privacy policy on the Gmail website Thursday, consumer-rights groups began sending complaints to the privately held Mountain View, Calif., company and preparing to warn users to stay away.
"The privacy implications of going through and perusing a customer's e-mail to display targeted advertising could be the Achilles' heel for Google's services," said Jordana Beebe, the communications director for the Privacy Rights Clearinghouse, an consumer group in San Diego.
The consternation caught Larry Page, Google's co-founder and president of products, off guard.
"I'm very surprised that there are these kinds of questions," he said Thursday.

Re:Funny you should say that
Think about the advantages: You get a Royal Family of your very own and no more George Dubblyah Bush.
Not to mention: sitcoms that are actually funny; the ability to see a breast on TV without totally freaking out and sports actually played by other nations. And the only thing you'd have to give up is motor sport that hasn't banned overtaking.

Used to be Yahoo, then Google, now Druge
Yup... DrudgeReport.com is a fairly good indicator of the general most-breaking news story of the moment, which is a good way to roll out of bed and start my morning.
I'm damn sure that it's the start page of at least a third of DC.
Then, it's off to work where my start page is Google, even though there's an Intranet page I probably should be using instead.
Slashdot loads too slowly for a start page when I'm opening new windows. I used to keep it at Yahoo.com when I'd set up other people's computers because it was quick, moderately useful, and rather neutral.
Why not use a Big Brother or network status page as your start page? Simple, have the condensed view on your desktop permanently instead. It's an actual use for Windows' Active Desktop feature :)

They don't just sell it to the government. They sell it to government presidential candidates like John F'n Kerry. If data mining is good enough for his employees, it's good enouf for the whole nation right?

Re:I'm sick of hearing about "losing U.S. jobs"Evidence for dramatic decline in labor force participation:
St. Louis Federal Reserve Data
This the real "unemployment" measure. It's down to the rate in 1980s; after a decade of mass immigration and as the echo-baby boom enters the work force. The Bush administration does not count "contractors" who can't get new contracts and people who haven't found a job in more than 6 months.Nice use of selective data.
Please try the 56-year-view instead of the 5-year-view you posted.
For those not willing to look, job force participation peaked at about 67.5% in 1999 or so (it's about 66% now). But it's been on a pretty steady rise from 58% or so since 1948. And FWIW, job-force participation probably rose since 1948 because of increasing number of women in the workforce. Please note that there are a lot of factors that effect job force participation ("baby-boom echo" having kids, more moms deciding to stay at home, etc). The parent poster blithely blames this on Bush, after selecting the data he wants to prove his point.
Uh. 2 other points: Dukakis was a governor.
How is his voting record comparable with Senator Kerry?Kerry was Dukakis's Lieutenant Governer, IIRC. And Kerry's the the most liberal Senator.
Also, It's John Edwards who's gonna kick draft-dodger Bush/Cheney's ass.
He'd better decide to win at least one primary before the convention, then. Coming in a close second in one out of every 18 or so isn't going to work.

If Kerry winsIf Kerry wins, imagine the wonderful Supreme Court"> he would appoint.
That would take care of the religious and social conservative nuts for quite some time.
If, on the other hand, the boy king wins a second term...

FBI is DROWNING in information
Even before September 11th, the national intelligence agencies had a backlog of information (so for example, certain messages about 9/11 were only translated after the fact.) It's even worse now. They simply have too much data, and not enough people/computer power to interpret it.

Police State, documentary films
Alex Jones, a documentary film maker and owner of INFOWARS.COM has quite an archive of situations such as this in what he refers to as the rise of a military police state in America. The common theme that is relative to this article is the notion of being presumed guilty until proven innocent. Citizens are being treated like potential-terrorists, forced to show papers, and subjected to tyranny for resisting.
Coincidentally there is an excellent dashboard-cam video of a woman in Texas being abused in this very manner. She knew her rights and they arrested her for abstructing justice and assault on a police officer. A jury acquitted her of all charges.
He has published several films available for purchase, and he gives permission to distribute them at no cost, so you can find most of the films on the P2P networks. Police State 2000, Police State II: The Takeover, Police State III: Total Enslavement
Other relevant sites include PRISON PLANET and PROPAGANDA MATRIX. All of these sites have a raw Drudge Report kind of feel to it and are more of a collection of news stories gathered from around the globe that illustrate their concerns. -

Re:To put it into some perspectiveAs a nerd, I feel compelled to point out the recycling of technology from one use to a completely different one.
This picture of a old horse drawn wagon wheel shows how the wheel is kept on the axle by means of a spike thru the axle itself.
This picture of the boob shows how the wheel-spoke ornament is held on by a (smaller) spike that goes thru the nipple itself.
All that is needed now is a small motor which will rotate the ornament (or wave it back and forth? Maybe have it move to the beat of the music?) to make the design complete.

Re:The long deliberation makes sense ...
Thank goodness for replays on Tivo....
I asked for the replay on the TiVo (I headed to the kitchen as soon as Timberlake popped up). We were watching a HD broadcast, though, so the TiVo wasn't running.
(On the way home, though, I heard that Drudge had a closeup...that's probably why his site isn't loading now.)

Re:Save Disney site. It's not worth saving.
"Baseball, hotdogs, apple pie. .
.and Disney." A few years ago that statement would have rung true. No longer. For decades Disney was a name families could trust. The name Disney meant wholesomeness, laughter, quality family entertainment without pornography, violence and profanity. More than anything the name Disney meant children. Sadly, this is no longer true. Disney has gone from trusted friend to hostile foe of those who hold the same values and ideals that this - the world's most popular entertainment giant - once represented. -- AFAThe Village Voice declared Miramax/Disney's Kill Bill "The Most Violent American Movie Ever Made," and the Hollywood Reporter warned it "oozes, drips, flows, gushes, splatters... scalps, limbs and heads are freely removed from characters' bodies."
You'd think that Disney would tone it down for a Christmas movie. Sorry, no Miracle on 34th Street here. In Bad Santa, Miramax/Disney features a disgusting Santa that yells at a kid, several times: "G**-d***it! Are you f**king with me?" Another scene depicts a barmaid having sex with Santa in his car outside of the bar: "F**k me, Santa! F**k me, Santa!"

The Winner Has the Cake and Eats it Too ...
The story has been around for a while and I first read it here. on Dec 29, 03.
I like the way in which the Right can create all the huff, puff, & smoke, but then ridicule it when the same is done to them. And people complaining about this "loss of civil liberties" are going to called by the right as being hysterical and they will get away with it. But why ? Why this inequality ?
- A case in point is the Bush in 30 seconds Videoes at MoveOn.org. Maybe a couple of videos out of 1500 submitted ones had Hitler/Bushe theme. I could see myself doing one like that too. But, then the story got picked up by Fox & Drudge Report and not to mention the RNC And ah, the Wall Street Journal has indignation at the Hitler/Holocaust comparison.
- Fair Enough.
- But on the Other hand "the extremely influential GOP activist and White House insider Grover Norquist" referred to the supposedly specious argument that the estate tax was worth keeping because it really affected only "2 percent of Americans." He went on: "I mean, that's the morality of the Holocaust. 'Well, it's only a small percentage,' you know. I mean, it's not you. It's somebody else." From the transcript, it seems that Gross couldn't believe her ears. "Excuse me," she (the interviewer) interjected. "Excuse me one second. Did you just . . . compare the estate tax with the Holocaust?"
... It's hard to overstate Norquist's importance in contemporary Washington. He is head of Americans for Tax Reform, is an intimate of Karl Rove, the president's chief political aide, and has easy access to the White House. He presides over a weekly meeting of important Republican activists and lobbyists where the agenda -- at least Norquist's -- is to ensure that taxes are reduced to a bare minimum, the government is starved and everyone, the rich and the poor, is taxed the same, which is to say almost not at all.
So, there you go. A President whose actions might have killed thousands (15-20 thousand at least) cannot be compared to Hitler. But the Right can compare impostion of the Estate Tax on the richest 2 % to Hitler and his activities.
Look, at me here while I am talking. Is this fair?

Re:Let me get this straight..
Since when is "Ranked #2 by USNews" and a link to their site something they'd object to?And even if they'd object, could they legally do anything ??
Actually, some of the best sites (IMHO) on the Internet, contain only links.
