Re:How to Secure an OS
1. Forbid legitimate purchasers and owners of the device from doing ANYTHING you don't homogenize, pre-approve, pre-chew, and charge for.
I think this is the analogy you're looking for.

Not guaranteed accurate, but try this.

Re:Network of nodes using Uucp, USENET
Okay, how about this.
I work in telco, and I'm not Tunisian, however when I heard things were happening, I hopped on the first flight I could. I literally ran from building to building, trying to figure out where there still was connectivity, and how to spread it. This went from checking/fixing phone lines (sometimes as easy as putting the receiver down for 5 seconds before trying again), to helping people in datacentres organise the next 24 hours.
I have a press card, so Egypt was a bit tougher, but I *know*, for *a fact*, that I did good things over the past few months. And yes, it jeopardised my job in mainland Europe, and yes, I received a few punches, kicks and sticks, and fuck yes, I saw people die either crushed by a few thousand people (Egypt) or put themselves ablaze -- but at least I tried to do something.
Sure, I got scared when the Egyptians started going berserk on foreigners, but you know what? For every pro-Mubarak who wanted to kick me in the teeth, I had three post-Mubarak helping me get away. I'm not saying they fought for me, just they tried to calm the others down, or at least block them so I could get away if things went south.
I've seen proper geeks, working on what looked like DarkNets get pulled out by bucketloads of tear gas, their equipment smashed on the ground while they were gasping for air. You know the sandwich dude? The guy whose picture has gone around the world? He helped me get up on a tank as a country-wide cheer bellowed from the Earth.
I've decided I wouldn't go to Libya, mainly because I don't know the country well enough. The reason I decided to go to those places? Because I used to be a photog (Kosovo, Darfur), and I wanted to see whether my skills could help in a practical manner, rather than simply "inform".

I'm sick tired
...of "$LATEST_BIOMEDICAL_ADVANCE that can be used to heal soldiers butchering other human beings".
A cure for any of the thousands neglected diseases all around the world would affect more people than the imperial troop$, but no, we need to print skin for them.
I'm wondering if they plan to release also the photographic "paper" quality, you know, to restore the macho tattoos back to perfection...

Re:New Extinction theory!
I beg to differ, sir. Here's a perfect explanation why dinosaurs went extinct.

Re:Killer?
No one is going to beat Apple on specs.
Yes! The iPhone has touchscreen. TOUCHSCREEN!

Piracy is environmentally friendly
Keep in mind that piracy is not all that bad: piracy is environmentally friendly...

My bet is on...
Do I offend the ones who can draw pretty pictures or the ones who can root my computer and steal my credit information...
That being said, the iPhone app store definitely sucks more, and so does the iPhone!

Ink costs twice as much as blood
Or so it says here. This seems a bit odd to me.

Re:This killing machine was much more obscure...No this is awesome Pluto's namesake was Roman mythology's ruler of the underworld -- seemingly an apt inspiration for a locomotive-size missile that would travel at near-treetop level at three times the speed of sound, tossing out hydrogen bombs as it roared overhead. Pluto's designers calculated that its shock wave alone might kill people on the ground. Then there was the problem of fallout. In addition to gamma and neutron radiation from the unshielded reactor, Pluto's nuclear ramjet would spew fission fragments out in its exhaust as it flew by. (One enterprising weaponeer had a plan to turn an obvious peace-time liability into a wartime asset: he suggested flying the radioactive rocket back and forth over the Soviet Union after it had dropped its bombs.) It's the Bear Cavalry of weapons systems.

Re:$8000/Gal?
Here's what I can come up with:
Ink: $0.70 mL http://eatliver.com/i.php?n=2648
= $700.00/Liter
1 Gallon = 3.7854118 Liters
= $2649.79/Gal.
Maybe some overpaid ink-injecting gnomes contribute to the production costs. -
This picture puts all in perspective
Prices of various liquids per mL:

As Jeremy Clarkson noted in Top Gear: the fact that oil companies extract oil, refine it, distribute it all for a few cents a liter is actually amazing. Gasoline is extremely cheap! -

I've read the constitution, thanks.
The first step in regaining control of your culture and rights is to reject non free software.
Evangelizing again?
It is all the more outrageous that this violation of your security and free speech is being done on behalf of companies engaged in a reign of terror, where suspected copyright infringers are threatened with the loss of their life savings and livelyhoods.
I don't know why twitter, but I always think of this when I read these posts of yours.
