PS3 prices on eBay already in screaming dive.
The PS3 speculators are already in trouble. Sure, a few idiots paid $10,000 on day zero, but that's over. Auctions of unsold PS3 systems at bloated prices are now getting zero bids. There are "Buy it Now" prices of $3000, but reality is that units are going unsold at $1100. A sale of the 20GB unit just just occured at $925. Then at $840. One seller writes "I waited over 30 hours in walmart so you don't have to!" He got $780.
The original poster should hang onto his PS3. He's not going to make much money selling it. If you want a PS3, one will be available tomorrow. And the next day. And the day after that. At a modest premium over retail.

Re:Slashdot, you're the best.well in the description there is a link to the auction. which imho doesn't make the video of Linux successfully running on a brand new video game console any less interesting.
although, seriously, a Buy It Now price of $5000. Are you kidding me?

Re:Not number but price
Tremendous demand is better reflected in eBay prices than in it being sold out (which means nothing because they are so few in number).
I agree. I'm looking now at recently completed auctions. Here's a fun one: New_Playstation 3_Sealedinbox@hotmail email address PS3
Some guy sold a hotmail email address for $100.
Ok, besides that, here are the 10 most recent prices (with shipping costs included if listed):
- $1,115 -- 60GB. Japanese version.
- $1,115 -- 60GB. Japanese version.
- $1,327 -- 60GB
- $1,199 -- 60GB
- $1,025 (Reserve not met) -- 20GB
- $1,456 -- 60GB
- (no bids) -- 20GB
- $1,175 -- 60GB
- $1,575 -- 20GB
- $1,350 -- 60GB
So I guess all those people who thought they'd get $1,500 to $3,000 in profits just got a pay cut.

Re:Pseudoscience
That claim depends on what you mean by "working" — JET never produced sustained over-unity fusion power. If you don't require breakeven to count it as working, then a great many people have built working IEC fusion devices over the years. You could even buy one of them on eBay. Myself, I count these home built devices as "working" in the exact same way I count amateur rocketiers' launch pads as "rocket launch facilities".

Re:Well maybe it is.
A quick search on ebay seems to indicateabout 13,000+ consoles, many (first 11 pages sorted by lowest price) with a starting point of $1.00 (+-). Although, sorted by "ending first", you get a range from $1300 to $3000 (with the latter having 40 some-odd bids). $2000 seems to be the average.
I was also going to say, with no real back up, that there is a good reason the game industry is shying away from Sony. You can't jerk around your customer, your content creator, and your staff too much or they will jump ship. But my backup is in the headline summary. Sony seems to be arrogant, and apparently its arrogancy is not just toward its consumer. (Everquest anyone?) -

Re:1st in line, was it worth it?
Not a lot of time to play games, I'm far too busy with a myriad of proverbial irons in the fire. No, I am firm believer in capitalism.
:-) As such, the PS3 is now listed on eBay at an obscenely high starting price.
I frankly would rather have a Nintendo Wii, for my 4 year old. Have you seen the experience videos at wii.com? Looks like fun for the whole family.

Re:Hmmm
Or pick up a older used L3 switch... Cisco 2948-GL3 @ Ebay The 3750's are nice, but they're priced out of reach for someone who is struggling trying to cobble together a router out of a PC. If you're going to spend the money on a decent L3 switch, check out the Force10 S50, they are a smaller vendor, but the quality is tops.

Re:Wii Campers?
They aren't selling them for $800, they're selling for $99,999,999, which makes standing in line for 24 hours quite worth it!
On a more serious note, does anyone know what happened with this? At first glance it doesn't seem to just be one or two people with new accounts putting in false bids.

The buyers concern me, not the greedy sellers...
I wouldn't say it's the greed that's so disturbing... if someone's willing to wait outside forever, enduring muggings and cold and not showering, then that's fine with me.
What disturbs me is the things like the auction someone else linked to above... $89 million for a game console??? Sure it's in short supply, but within a few months it probably won't be anymore. Something's fishy about an $89 million bid, I don't see that as being legitimate, but still, seeing that other people are willing to pay 3, 5, or 9 thousand dollars or more is still incredibly insane... What do we value in the world anymore??? -

Re:eBay
Final Price?
$89,000,100.00
Now, can some one explain the bid history to me?
It says only actual bids, not the incremental ones up to your max as shown.
So why do we see people with 3 bids in a row?
Is this caused by them placing a flat bid, not a max bid that promptly gets overwritten by some one elses auto bid (that is thus not shown)? -

PS3 Related CrimeYep, it sure is great that the PS3 is out. The account on Kotaku listed in the summary is nothing, however. No one lost a PS3 (which are selling on eBay for several thousand even after launch). For those of you interested in criminal activity, Engadget has an amusing collection of articles:

Re:If they're so technology hungry..
One of my roommates and I have been talking about camping out for a ps3. Have you seen what they are selling for on ebay? At those prices, you could buy two, sell one, and still make a profit.
$1400 for a ps3 on ebay? Assuming I'd spend about $800 on one with games and whatnot, that'd leave $600 for profit. 24 hours standing outside for $600 is about $27 an hour. It might suck (especially in the cold where I'm at), but that's pretty good money when you think about it.
On that note, I didn't think most stores were offering pre-orders. When I went to Best Buy a few months ago, they told me they weren't doing it. Is this true or did I get some idiot who ruined my chance at getting a ps3?
