i remember seeing dell machines that offered linux instead of windows in the past.. but the prices were the same or HIGHER for linux! Dell will need to address this, and offer these dellbuntu boxes at lower price. the OS is free! if they need to include a price to cover support costs, it should still not be equal to or greater than the cost of including Vista!
A well-known scientist (some say it was Bertrand Russell) once gave a public lecture on astronomy. He described how the Earth orbits around the sun and how the sun, in turn, orbits around the centre of a vast collection of stars called our galaxy.
At the end of the lecture, a little old lady at the back of the room got up and said: "What you have told us is rubbish. The world is really a flat plate supported on the back of a giant tortoise."
The scientist gave a superior smile before replying, "What is the tortoise standing on?"
"You're very clever, young man, very clever," said the old lady. "But it's turtles all the way down!"
it should be pointed out that TFA mentions this game will be developed in-house for Xbox 360 and PS3, but makes no mention of PC (which the summary erroneously stated).
perhaps his "baseless statements" are based on actual articles that interview devs.... such as Jade Raymond of Ubisoft:
While the PlayStation 3 and 360 versions of Assassin's Creed are virtually identical, Raymond did say that on the 360 the team is putting a special emphasis on achievements. The hardware also allows for improved threading, which will improve even further the crowd AI.
well in the description there is a link to the auction. which imho doesn't make the video of Linux successfully running on a brand new video game console any less interesting.
although, seriously, a Buy It Now price of $5000. Are you kidding me?
I, for one, would prefer if it was Wes Anderson directing instead of Paul Anderson. Then we could all bask in the glory of Futura! And the Wilson brothers could be Belmonts, and Bill Murray can play Dracula, with Anjelica Huston as the love interest!! and when it was over, we'd all try to figure out the "deeper meaning"..
one of my biggest complaints about the Linux UI's is the poor quality of the fonts.. somebody with deep pockets *cough* shuttleworth */cough* needs to buy the rights to a couple _really_ nice fonts and open them up. that would go a long way towards making Linux easy on the eyes.
not everybody will use ONLY a cell phone to use this service. and making a phone call with it during the free nights and weekends that all mobile phone operators offer means it's free even if you DO use a cell phone.
so it's not pointless to americans. and, as other posters have mentioned, some carriers (namely, Sprint) offer free incoming calls.
I've personally been using the wireless logitech controller for PS2 for some time now, and i basically never use the rumble feature as it is. I keep it turned off, and my battery life is phenomenal. however, i don't agree that Sony should have completely removed the feature. i won't be surprised to see later versions of the controller offer rumble as an option, and games will be able to support it if they wish.
with enough customer grumbling, sony will eventually get rumbling.
i've got a pretty sizeable iMac on my desk now, along with a pc, and i found my biggest issue is my mousepad is not big enough to easily drag from one side of my screen to the other. Anybody have specific product suggestions? anybody make a good wide mouse pad? I realize that with an optical mouse it's not really neccesary to have a mousepad at all, but i would still like one.
it's news to those of us who may, at some time in the future, be forced with the task of cleaning up after a user who decided to go ahead and click YES at every prompt, and ended up with a browser like this.
well unless they've never owned an Xbox of any type, have absolutely zero Xbox or Xbox360 games, and have no intention on buying them. A lot of people with big PS2 libraries will buy PS3 as par for the course this generation. Just as a heck of a lot of PSX owners got PS2.
i read through the wikipedia article, poked further through the related links, and only then became enlightened that this guy pretty much has nothing to do with Enlightenment..:-\ bad use of topic icons.
i remember those same comments (en masse) when Xbox was going to be released. do you?
turned out to be pretty incorrect. Sure it didn't outsell the other consoles, but the Xbox sure became a part of the gaming community and titles like Halo sure garnered a lot of mindshare. Gamers are willing to cough up for good technology (and whatever gives the best Madden experience), and the more i think about it, the more i realize that PS3 won't be an exception. People will buy it.
as for the controller itself.. i've been using my cordless logitech controller for PS2 for a while, and i always keep the rumble off to conserve battery life. not only do i not miss it, but i value not having to change batteries regularly.
(i am not trolling here, this is just my observation) i think most linux fans fall into one of two camps. Those who want Gnome and KDE to stop doing parallel efforts and instead concentrate on a unified GUI for linux... and then those who appreciate having more choices and want KDE and Gnome to push each other.
I fall into the former. I think it's a pain when you see some cool feature or eyecandy or whatever appearing in the desktop environment you aren't using... but it isn't enough to make you totally switch your current desktop. And just when you do go and switch, your old environment will come out with some sweet feature and you're back to square one.
i realize it's a complicated issue, and neither KDE nor Gnome is about to fold and allow the other to take precidence... but I still look forward to the day when everyone is working towards a common goal, and when a new user interface element is implemented, everybody can benefit from it.

um, sony beat them in the first round
you owe me a braille keyboard

if we're talking about them at ALL, they worked.
Dang! Now what am I gonna do with my new Dell?
it's perfect! ;-)
in PA i've seen a few Wal*marts that still actually close, but most have transitioned to the 24/7 variety, even the smaller ones.

is that specified? what is the exact wording?
i'm glad somebody else at least LOOKED at the jajah website (unlike the submitter, apparently). i don't see what the big negative fuss is about..

i own a Mac LC back home. Does that fulfill my "apple hardware requirement"? I am technically a Mac owner.
with enough customer grumbling, sony will eventually get rumbling.
(wow that was horrible :-P)
me too. and the numbers are growing every day. and we want content that takes advantage of it.

here's the x64 version...
