Re:Not a good idea
That is not actually a problem. Because if they actually knew what terror-suspects look like, they could get them by other means.
Yeah, when I was young, these things were hanging in most public places - facial recognizing terrorists was everybody's duty back then. Hey, they even caught a few.

Re:I envy some users of ancient phones
Perhaps it would go down easier if we stopped calling them phones, and started calling portable communication and computation devices. THe 'phones' of today are anything BUT phones. It's like calling a desktop with a modem a phone. You could use it as one, but that is not what it is.
You Sir, want a phone? There is plenty of 20 Euro stuff out there if its really that important. And it's a lot tinier too these days.

Re:Alright, I'll play.
eBay. Just make sure the item description doesn't have the words "compatible" or "similar" in it - many of the resellers will send you a display that's compatible (i.e. will work in the same laptops) with the one listed in the title... the ones that state you'll explicitly receive the listed screen are usually 10-20€ more expensive, but mine were always brand new, with manufacturer-stickering and even original Lenovo FRU stickers on 'em...
This one (German, but you should get the picture) is the FullHD 95%gamut screen that comes with the high-end T and W series models: http://www.ebay.de/itm/220887046677?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
Pretty much plug and play....
:) -
Re:So, delayed anyway. 20-30% increase in cost...
This. (Note that this is a "used" one, but practically new. Truly new ones start at 40 EUR shipped with SIM lock but without contract. New ones without SIM lock and contract are always available for 50 EUR, but you can get them for less than 40EUR if you shop around (i.e. not on eBay) and keep your eyes peeled. Good day to you too.

Re:Uh...
I used to love Craigslist, and was one of the people who helped spread the word about Craigslist before it was as widely known.
In the past couple years, though, I've had nightmarish problems posting items for sale on Craigslist, i.e. items which seem to post successfully, but don't actually show up in the category list (a phenomenon apparently known as "ghosting"). I only learned of this after reading about the experiences of others users having the same problems. It seems Craigslist itself is of no help when it comes to such matters, and never replied to any of my inquiries about this.
You also have the problem of extremely small image size unless you host your own images, which apparently can be one of the things which can trigger the "ghosting" phenomenon (using HTML code setting off a flag, I guess).
Then you have the problem of virtually every post you make getting responses from what I assume to be email harvesters asking "Is your item still available?". I've had to start asking people to give me some information when replying to my ads to prove they're actually local.
In Germany, Craigslist is far less popular than the eBay Local site, which sucks, because I hate eBay as a company, but at least their local site is free like Craigslist and has a much better interface.
I still use Craigslist (when it allows me to) but between it and eBay, I have to say I'd love it if serious 3rd contender came along.

Re:Prize For Best Made Up 'PS3 On Shelves' Story
Pick your favourite. If my phone's camera worked I could have given you a picture of three unsold Wiis one week after launch. Can't give you any PS3 auctions though, that thing isn't even released here.

Accuracy
Well, being typically german in that respect I guess, I took a long time finding a proper watch.
I wanted the following: titanium body (doesn't scratch, ever), crystal glass (dito), very highly accurate, simple appearance, very quick to glance at, especially at night, waterproof.
After many years I found a Junghans Spektral. Can't find it at the Junghans URL anymore, but somebody on eBay is selling one: http://cgi.ebay.de/JUNGHANS-Spektral-Titan-Herren- Funkuhr-030-2012-00-Neu_W0QQitemZ8904977010QQcateg oryZ74513QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
It's nice and simply, doesn't look fancy, meets all my requirements, and is controlled by the sender in Frankfurt, meaning it sets itself every hour to an atomic clock.
And the simply face makes sure that I can read it at a glance - no additional little faces in it or anything. -
I was unclear when I said "in his original listing
I was unclear when I said "in his original listing". I should have said in the language of his original listing. There was clearly no point in removing a listing that was expired, but in the coming months permitting him to make the same listing again, over and over, under the same terms that he refused to honor without a surcharge and told me there was no way he would sell without surcharge, that is Fraud, with EBay a partner in the fraud. There is no excuse
If lifting the strike is all EBay was willing to do, there is the clear answer to who is at fault. That action carries no credibility and does nothing significant to reign in the behavior by the merchant, which was obvious because despite my protests to him and EBay he continued the same practice with no modification at all. It is no excuse just because greed, as you say, happened to drive EBay to this pattern of fraudulent behavior, ignoring all bad behavior by sellers.
The simple fact is, this kind of thing never happens to me anywhere but EBay, where the environment is alligned against the buyer.
I do not have the seller name. I might be able to find it in a backup of an old e-mail, given some effort, if you in turn find a suitable public forum to continue to discuss this (this slashdot will not be suitably public after today).
But you somehow think you can find all relevant US data and facts without even dabbling in US policy? Your unwillingness to even look up the obvious makes it clear how your "investigation" would go. You do not even yet cite authoratative EU Visa or other rules. It is not that hard to find EBay rules in the EU. For example (the German is most natural for me): http://pages.ebay.de/help/policies/listing-surcha
r ges.htmlThis says basically the same thing that the US version does.
I checked German because that was most-familiar to me. Now I check UK, and see that UK (apparently not EU, as you claimed) has made an exception, but apparently has limited the charge only to the passing on of direct bank charges, in which case, since I looked at the charge table of his credit card processor, he would have still been in even clearer violation of the law and had you understood the UK policy and law, you would have asked about that. Again, your arguments fall very flat.

All kinds of neat things :-)We had several low- and high tech things at our Halloween parties. Just to give you some ideas I list some fun stuff:
- infrared motion detector in the bathroom, no other lights working and when a person enters a small light in the shower goes on and an mp3-player starts playing music from Psycho
- a stuffed animal sitting in the washing machine with a led light and a pen. The animal wrote "help me!" on the inside of the glass door
- something like this here http://cgi.ebay.de/STERNENHIMMEL-LED-Sauna-LAMPE-
D esign-Leuchte-UVP-499_W0QQitemZ4408536089QQcategor yZ107585QQcmdZViewItem and then using the individual lights to create ghosts, bats, etc. - a dancing skeleton as a screensaver on the tv
- the obligatory spider coming down from the ceiling on a string
Just google a bit to get plenty of other ideas. Liquid latex is also a very nice thing to make fake body parts, that you can stick between a door or something.

New Folder auction at eBay Germany.

Re:iTunes Sale
Does this mean that the German auction of a newly-created and virgin empty "Untitled Folder" made on a MacOS 9 machine is also violating ebay's policy? A pity, because I need a few.

I have someone stealing MY music....in Germany!!...at the same time, I actually have another eBay user reselling my CD's for profit in Germany!!! Last week, while playing on the eBay worldwide search function, I ran across these:
My Deep House CD
Another pirated CDContrast that to a *real* listing.
So, basically, this guy bought my box-set back in July. He's been duplicating my CD's and selling them in the German market for months. Despite the blatant infringement (he even took my HTML), I don't think I have any recourse. Heck, it's sorta flattering.

Re:EULAs worthless in GermanyIndeed, the rules of ebay Germany do not say a word about OEM or pre-installed software, whereas the matching ebay.com page states explicitly that you "generally cannot sell the software to someone else unless you are also selling them the machine it came on."
Can you or somebody give a reference to more info about the legal situation in Germany? Is it completely legal to sell OEM licenses separately? Does Microsoft agree on that, or do they still hunt people who do so?
