Re:Hmm...
Yeah, we do count every box, and there are always at least four people counting each box. One of them is designed by the local administration, and the other three are chosen randomly from the electorate itself.
If you're chosen, you are obliged to stay there during the day, and payed 50€ for the inconvenience. Of course, you aren't punished if you present some medical condition, are travelling or that kind of things.
Also, each party can send as many representatives as they want to each box or school, to verify nothing strange happens.
If you're interested and can read spanish, you should go read this link. It's from 2005 and discusses the electronic vote and compares it with our actual system.. I'm sorry is too long for me to translate it accurately

Re:Why use Linux?
I don't want to hear any of your horseshit about how Windows does work, because you know damn well that you need a couple of friends helping you on how to get it installed and running.
Read and then talk. -

Re:If I had a dollar
You, my friend, have got it.
Computers are NOT for everyone. They aren't. No matter how much we try, they aren't yet. And we shouldn't try to make them be.
Computer companies, such as Microsoft and even some linux corps, want to sell a computer to every smart/stupid/bright/lazy/idiotic person in the world. They bill it as "user friendly" and "easy to run" which is the usual case - but the problem is that in the real world things break. And MS sure doesn't help then.
Ever read the Tech-Slacky Howto? Read it, it's brilliant.
See, computers should only be given to people after they have shown a propensity to learn and the intention to continue to do so. To solve the problems that they can solve, and then ask for help.
If they choose not to do this, they should be greeted with RTFM! and pointed to the proper place. Life's rough, and people need to pull their own weight (or pay me to fix stuff for them).
For me, I'll fix a nice ol' lady's computer for a strawberry pie, it's worth it. I'll usually give people I know good rates ($20/hr) and fix my close family's computers for gratis.
This is why I think linux should be hard - so that you have to work a little to get in to "the club" and then continue to work to enjoy the benefits. People who don't work, well they can stick to windows and pay me to help them. -

Re:can this be?
Much as I hate to admit this...hotmail isn't _so_ bad when it comes to spam. Yeah, you get more than on other accounts (actually, I've gotten close to none on my "real" accounts), but the way they let you set you Junk mail filter is pretty nice and it works quite well; though of course it's a annoying to have to 'block' the addressess you get spam from each time you get a new one....
Quite another question is why you should use a hotmail account as a serious email... why anyone would want to do this is beyond me! The only reason I still keep mine is because the actual address is quite cool and it makes it easer to use MSNM (Spanish speakers, check this out :)) -

Re:For people switching...
The average user buys a PC with Windows, never reinstalls his OS, [...] support and support costs are immaterial to them.
The average user has almost always access to a more trained user who normally does all the work. Please refer to the Tech-Slacky Howto for more information.

like in the "Tech-Slacky HOWTO"
Tech-Slacky HOWTO (with links to many formats and in english or spanish) is a funny recopilation of that problem with your "friends" and relatives asking for (Win)tech-support...
-
Don't help them!
See what could happen.
Don't be free tech support for Microsoft. If they want to use Windows, fine. It's their choice, their problem. Not yours. Let them pay... how much is now? $100 a call?
Users must learn the cost of their decissions. -
like in the ecol comic stripIn the comic from es.comp.os.linux there is one strip about that, and another one related. Enjoy.

Re:Suprise suprise suprise....
Everyone here should read this HOWTO. I suppose it more or less describes what you were thinking when you (and other people like you) took that decision.

Re:That's Why We Get Paid...
Man, I just wish you understood Spanish!
There's what it's called Praingao HOWTO. It is a (mostly humoristic) view of what happens to friendly people that knows about computers.
It is here.
In short, it will convince you that, instead being nice, either you sould be charging money (even to your family) or either you shouyld install Linux instead so the computer won't break.
If you do not do it, you are in danger of expending many many hours fixing computers for free and letting grow the untrue legend that Windows is easy and can be used by anyone.
Try using Babelfish. It is worth it.
