    Conspiracy theorists will take note that there is a tag for inserting Silverlight elements into your Facebook app in FB's pseudo-HTML markup language, FBML. The only other formats to receive this support (inserting rich content with a single tag) are Flash and MP3.

    I'm not sure how a valuation is capable of representing a belief, but it does reflect an acknowlegement of important trends. Facebook's platform is similar to other "Web 2.0" RESTful APIs but is pretty simplistic (i.e. CanvasPages--which is basically an IFRAME, alerts, feeds, and privacy settings, etc.). Don't expect a RoR framework or anything close to Google's API.

    How is this listed as news?

    When Yahoo! released a wiki-like facebook app (mash.yahoo.com), it wasn't listed here as story. It launched with all kinds of rss feed modules that can be drag and dropped around the profile.

    By the way, there are 28 yahoo rss applications on facebook, including news, weather, messenger plugin, and music player. I know I'll be crucified for saying it, but I think that slashdot staff are google whores.

    There's lots of rumours swirling on the message walls, but they often get news hours before it's broken by the mainstream media. The group has several people with live contacts inside the country.

    Actually the London network is the largest in the world with over 1 million users, and the UK is just behind Canada with 5.5 billion users. From here at least 12 billion users are outside the US.

    I know your post was sarcastic, but any mac users dealing with the agonizing slowness of their photo upload applet should be cheering for joy if what you're saying is true.

    Flash on Mac isn't all that hot either. Adobe's more or less been shitting all over the platform ever since Apple started directly competing with them. A single Youtube video can easily suck up 80% of the CPU cycles on a modern Core Duo machine.

    You do know about the official Mac OS X-native FaceBook Exporter for iPhoto, don't you? It's that kind of integrated app that makes the user experience with Facebook nice, not things like Silverlight.

    Islam is a religion that's perceived through a racial lens in the USA.

    You make a good point - though it depends on what the group in question actually promotes. On the one hand, people talk about Islam in a racist sense (e.g., accusing them of immigrants coming to live here, or based on what they look like). However, other times it is specifically about religion. The text for the Facebook group says:

    The Quran contains many lies and threats. Islam is false, no god exists, and someone should say that loud and clear. Heaven and hell are fables, prayer is a waste of time, and angels and jinn are obviously mythology.
    This is not a group against Muslims. They have it bad enough. If you doubt that go to Palestine. If you hate Muslims or are here to harrass them or promote your religion, go away. Muslims can be and usually are peaceful and respectful.
    The best thing for the whole world is a rejection of all religions and a renewed discovery of the love for humanity and naturalism.
    Fuck Christianity and Judaism as well. These religions are just as false and have a variety of disadvantages. There are other groups devoted to each of these false ideologies. Here is one devoted to religion in general: http://unm.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2225572075

Just because some anti-Islam views are actually racist, doesn't mean that criticisms specific to the religion Islam are racist (another example would be the cartoon controversy - this was not a racist issue, despite often being reported as such).

    Reading the above, criticism of Islam seems valid. As much as I disagree with their message, I support their right to say it and am thankful to FaceBook for holding that line even in the face of public criticism.

    completely anti-First Amendment ... they have a right to say what they want to say, no matter whether it's offensive, hate speech, politically incorrect, racist, or anything else Wrong. This is Facebook, not the government. There is no Constitutional guarantee that Facebook will allow you some kind of free speech, even if it's hateful.

    More freaking importantly, the terms of these people's use of Facebook specifically indicate that the user agrees "not to use the Service or the Site to ... upload, post, transmit, share, store or otherwise make available any content that we deem to be harmful, threatening, unlawful, defamatory, infringing, abusive, inflammatory, harassing, vulgar, obscene, fraudulent, invasive of privacy or publicity rights, hateful, or racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable."

    So please, come off your anti-PC horse, quit cheapening my rights (against the government) by diluting them with fictional rights against private organizations and my own contracts, and let's agree that this isn't a free-speech issue.

Curiously though the Fuck Jews group, which seems to have primarily Muslim members, is still around, and doesn't seem to have generated controversy. I wonder why that is? There's also a number of "Fuck Christianity" groups around.

    Personally though, I'm a fan of the Fuck Benjamin Franklin group. Goddamn him and his glass armonicas.
