The insulating foam for the space shuttle that broke off and possibly destroyed the shuttle was a new formula since 1997 that has been problematic since it replaced a freon based foam. Although the freon-based foam worked better, the new foam was used instead rather than getting an exemption. So, if the foam is the root cause, it appears political correctness was more of a concern than using the best material for the job, possibly costing the lives in the process. Pro-choice vegans are no better (especially PETA). They cry fowl about the inhumane teatment of animals, but it perfectly fine to kill a baby that's being born (partial birth abortion). See this link (fox is slow today) for a VERY BASIC description of what partial birth abortion. The way the abortion bill is phrased is what happens when a doctor performs a partial birth abortion. How are these things humane? Tell me this, and don't answer with the "it's a womans right to choose" crap because that's an excuse (and avoids the REAL QUESTION)!!!!

Why can't states figure out that if they are spending more than they are getting in income then cut programs, cut spending, cut, cut, cut. If people want those programs bad enough then they will authorize a gas tax and if not then they obviously didn't feel it was worth paying taxes for.

Wow. I posted that as AC because it was flamebait, and it got +4 funny so far. But they really are fair and balanced. Hannity and Colmes argue with each other on air. O'Reilly reads e-mails from people bashing him, and Shepard Smith (obviously) ignores his viewpoints to act fair and balanced. And the "Against the flow. Fair and balanced" is an official slogan. It's naive to think that editorial opinion is confined to editorial pages. Astute readers can detect it everywhere, including in the mere selection of which stories to print out of the myriad candidate stories. This is true for newspapers, magazines, and (of course) cable news networks, who wear their editorial bias on their sleeves, right out in plain view. Those who have been paying attention know that the journalism industry has realized that it's just a business, and they'll offer up a trough full of whatever the people are willing to consume. It is not a branch of government...just a business. It's silly to criticize slashdot for not living up to standards that even "real" journalists don't live up to these days.

Anyway, on May 19 or so the US unveiled their new currency. Check it out.. I doubt those printers can reproduce that--at least not 7 years from now when that bill becomes the dominant one, and our printers have increased in detail and specifics ten-fold. Oh well, people break the laws so why keep passing them. Hell, why do we even prosecute them--its our money keeping them in jail during their 'rehabitation.'

I don't think this is going to happen. Recall that Apple is doing this with the support of the music industry. If Apple were to antagonize the industry by pulling a stunt like this, the industry could easily yank its support and send legions of lawyers to Cupertino. Considering the resources that Steve Jobs put into making this deal work, I don't think he'd be foolish enough to take a risk like that.

It's unclear what's really going on, but there's clearly some action in this area.
