Re:To be clear for those not familiar with concept
I had no idea that lithium was free.
I said "essentially free", meaning that its cost is negligible compared to deuterium. A gram of lithium costs about a quarter if you must know. The tritium is a by-product of the neutrons from the fusion reaction reacting with the lithium, usually when molten lithium surrounds the fusion reactor. Removal of the tritium from the molten metal seems pretty straightforward and cheap (the patent explains the entire breeding process).
Did that answer your question, or do you require a more detailed explanation?

Re: How?
that isn't from the idiot fringe?
Thanks for asking. I think the biggest problem with this that there has been no forensic investigation of the facts, evidence and conclusions drawn from them. In any case how this happened is irrelevant compared to the laws put in place to justify the surveillance state we have now. It's our reality, I accept that, but it doesn't mean I don't like to playfully tease out the dogmatic skeptics who are too mentally anemic to challenge their own assumptions for a few lolz.
My phone worked fine on Japanese bullet trains, do we have any information on tower hand off at high speeds
First, in the air a cell phone is relatively equidistant from *all* cell towers in range. This is substantially different from a cell phone call placed on the ground where the signal strength to your closest tower may be 10's of dB higher the the very next one. From the air, your cell phone signal would present as the same fractions of a dB at *all* cell phone towers in range.
Second, you need cell hand off data of 2/3G network that was in use in 2001. Even on the ground, at 500 knots (roughly 800kph) a handover from one tower would be occurring as it was handing over to another. It is difficult to expect such a connection to be maintained with the network technology available in 2001.
Third, tests of those networks revealed all cell connections to be dropped above 3000 metres thus difficult to expect such a connection to be maintained without the assistance of the aircraft and that technology was only introduced in 2004.
Fourth, the range of the 3watt of transceiver power a cell phone has to transmit to connect to a tower is no more than the distance to the horizon on the ground, which is about 5km's, which is similar to a 3watt CB radio. With aircraft cruising altitude of 11km there is simply not enough energy in the transmitter to get to the ground even if you ignore the fact that an aircraft is a faraday cage AND their are two layers of aluminium between the transmitter and the ground.
Fifth, US patent US 7965684 B2: Method and system of handoff for cellular networks only allows 2 channels and a handset would not be able to calculate the round trip delay to the next cell tower if they are all, or even mostly, equidistant. Therefore no hard or soft handover would occur, resulting in a dropped connection.
The commission implies those calls were made from air phones which is in conflict with the witnesses who say they received cell phone calls.
If you accept the official version then we aren't talking about cell phones at all. If you accept the witness statements, then you have to ask why the official report implies otherwise and if the characteristics of the network would allow cell phone calls at the time, speed and altitude the air traffic controllers reported these aircraft to be when the calls were made. I don't think that is unreasonable to ask those questions.
It's the implications of the answer that skeptics don't want to deal with so it is understandable why they cannot accept the facts.

Re: How?
Max cell tower range at the low end is 22 miles (depends on the technology)
Cruising speed (probably faster than they were going, but hey, worst case) is ~550mph
Putting it together, we get 2.4 minutes for a phone to be connected to a tower.
Don't know how long a handover takes, but I'll bet its less than 30 seconds. Probably closer to 3-5 seconds, considering that's generally how long it takes the network to stand up a connection for you to make the call in the first place. -

Re:"self investigate" == alt.right
How about the little girl taped to a table?
Boy, there's a ton of pedophiles in the world!!....or maybe taping someone up is a pretty common prank.
Some of the things, like #chickenlover or cheese pizza = CP are from established slang definitions that can be found on sites like urban dictionary which long predate any of this.
And until you actually have evidence of pedophilia, it's idiotic to not use their "common" definition.
But I find this argument ironic when we talk about dog whistle politics so much.
Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. And sometimes it isn't.
And yes, I specifically decided to use that object, because it's a dogwhistle. Do you notice how little careful parsing and "what he really meant was...." was required to notice it?

Re:what about not giving a printer an public IP
This here is the fucking answer. The protocol isn't the problem. FTP or telnet are no worse than HTTP. The problem is idiots who configure these things to be accessible to anyone in the world. There are a stupid number of network printers out there reachable over the public internet, colleges seem to love doing this for some reason. If you Google for phrases from the web interfaces of various printers, you can find printers set up to accept jobs from anyone through a web browser.
Here's one example. I guarantee at least a dozen of those can be printed to, and probably administered, by the public at large. I know I've sent my share of dick pics to random printers over the years...

You're waiting for some colossal rage event at the election of a troll, but this is exactly what we expected from you.
The "colossal rage events" have been happening.
And I have no idea what you mean by "expected from 'you'". I'm a former Democrat, now an independent. Until the election, I considered Clinton and Trump to be equally bad. Given what has happened since, I'm really glad that Clinton and her supporters are not in power, even though I still don't like Trump.

there is a bit more to it
The Pizzagate conspiracy names Comet Ping Pong as the secret headquarters of a non-existent child sex-trafficking ring run by Clinton and members of her inner circle. James Alefantis, the restaurant's owner, said he has received hundreds of death threats.
James Alefantis isn't just a restaurant owner, he's the former gay lover of David Brock, and listed as one of the 50 most powerful people in Washington. Podesta and Clinton have used Alefantis' pizza parlor for political events. I think the rumors of a pedophilia ring come from a combination of the Podestas' bizarre taste in art (in particular, an artist called Biljana Djurdjevic, Alefantis' Instagram, and the odd set of bands performing at Coment Ping Pong. There were also odd references to pizza, dungeons, and children in Podesta's leaked E-mails.
Of course, none of that justifies showing up with a gun at Alefantis' restaurant. Furthermore, there seems to be no evidence of a pedophile ring. On the other hand, these seem to be some pretty weird people with some pretty weird tastes and pretty weird social relations.

I already run a 3rd party "Stalker" app.
GPS Family Locator (GPS Tracker)
My new girlfriend(!) and I have hooked ourselves up to this. It's moderately useful in that I get a ding when she leaves work or arrives here, or if I check I can see how far away she is -- 5 minutes or 35. It'll also ding on entering/exiting selected places as well.
Purchasing it *WILL* track history, so I can see exactly where her phone has been for the last month. And vice versa. (And so can the company. And Google. And the cell company. And the shadow PI following me. And my CC breadcrumbs. Whatever, I'm not that interesting. But not 4square or facebook though.)
I don't care if she knows where I go / went. I've shown her how to remove her entry or even the entire app so she can disappear if she wants, I'll leave myself plugged in. After all, if I wanted to be nefarious and disappear I'll just run on a alternate (or burner) phone, leaving the GPS tracker at home. Or "shudder" be like 1980 and go naked withOUT one.
Just a happy user, that's all. -

Re:More advertising data
Fucking floors me every time just how blind end users are to the justifications behind a business collecting data or enabling "features".
Of all the ToS's I've read Rovio.com (then angry birds) was the best and most informative.
Explaining These games collect your data, then sale it to Flurry.com (at the time Google) who added what they had and sold it to target advertisers.
So I added Rovio.com, Flurry.com to the HOSTS, opting out of Flurry.com no easy task -at the time this program was required
https://play.google.com/store/... to obtain the number requested.I've told many, I've seen none care.
So you maintain a HOSTS file? That floors me, such a simple thing as text file and weekly maintenance allowing some of the best security one can have, I've talked nobody into using one.
Side note: few weeks ago Flurry.com seemed out of Yahoo.com, yet Robtex.com touches on a broader relationship. https://www.robtex.com/?dns=fl...

Re:Models are inaccurate, but not wrong
America centric? Arrhenius and Tyndale? Do you think that the website is inventing the research papers being discussed? What about the scientific evidence, are the properties of H2O and CO2 also somehow "America centric"?
Arrhenius' paper was well-received, but it did contradict existing assumptions that the Earth was generally static or cyclical. Plate tectonics would not be widely accepted until the 1950s. The concept of ice ages had become mainstream only in the 1870s. In point of fact, Arrhenius was writing about CO2 in relation to his interest in the origin of ice ages. That it suggested anthropogenic warming was possible was incidental. Researchers in the early 20th Century had made measurements which suggested that additional CO2 would not have an effect on the Earth's climate. The theory was widely discredited on that basis, even though Arrhenius' equations and calculations seemed to be sound. Other lines of evidence spoke against the idea of a static Earth, and CO2's indisputably also key role in atmospheric warming spurred scientists to attempt to measure global concentrations of CO2 in the 1950s, culminating with the work of Keeling in 1960.
AGW was neither always controversial nor always accepted. Like most scientific ideas it had to gain acceptance, and as always, our theories about the universe improve with better data. The nice thing about the history of science is that it is objective: there are either published papers and observations or there are not. If AGW was as well established in the early 20th Century as you say, then you should have a plethora of evidence. So let's take a quick trip to Google scholar, and start searching for anything climate related that happens to turn up, and see what it says.
Civilization and Climate, 1922
"...there is a widespread idea that climatic uniformity is the normal condition..."
"As to the assumed uniformity of climate, meteorologists do indeed find that so far as records are yet available...there are no certain indications of progressive climatic changes."
An Introduction To Weather And Climate, 1943
"Water vapor is much the most important of the atmosphere's absorbing gases, although carbon dioxide and ozone are of minor importance."
"Very insignificant amounts of both solar energy and terrestrial energy are likewise absorbed by ozone, oxygen, and carbon dioxide."
Climate and evolution, 1915 seems to take the view that climatic changes are exclusively due to the shape and position of the continents, and that the shape and position of the continents is mostly due to erosion, not continental drift.
Ah, here's a good one. G. S. Callendar, 1949 "CAN CARBON DIOXIDE INFLUENCE CLIMATE?" You will also find Callendar's work highlighted in the AIP "Discovery of Global Warming" website I linked earlier, and I believe this article in particular is mentioned.
An interpretation of climatic change in terms of the variable carbon dioxide content of the atmosphere was first proposed some sixty years ago by the famous Swedish physicist, Sevante Arrhenius, who made some of the classic experiments on the absorption of heat radiation by gases. Since then the theory has had a chequered history; it was abandoned for many years when the preponderating influence of water vapour radiation in the lower

Re:The problems are many
the technology is already in consumer class devices
https://www.google.com/webhp?s...
an as an owner of an prusa i3 I can safely say its a wonky slap it together in your garage pain in the ass, nothing about it is finished. From its limit switches being held in place by zip ties so they move whenever they get bumped by the head, to its dumbass firmware putting the print bed all the way to the back when its done forcing you to fiddle with a menu or reach in to a hot machine. If you dare move the print bed by hand the back EMF from the motors are so strong it can actually power the electronics so there's no electrical protection whatsoever

Re:Apple problem mostl or platform-independent iss
Look at the prices of well engineered USB-C chargers. They're on par to be the same price. Putting engineering effort into a product costs money.
The 3 highest rated USB-C chargers linked elsewhere cost $35, $39.99 and $39.99.

This is going to get worse with USB-C
With USB-C, this is going to get much, much worse. Apple, Google and HP now have laptops that can get juice from every charger.
However, the protocol for that (USB-PD, Power Delivery) is a digital protocol. So companies that used to build purely electronic chargers will now have to build or more likely buy firmware for their chargers. There's bound to be bugs in there, but we're talking about chargers that can supply up to a 100W of direct current.
I dare not guess how much houses are going to burn down because of crazy power supplies.
Personally, I'm only buying cables and chargers that have been tested thoroughly. You can't trust Amazon reviews, you can't trust big brands, you can only trust guys like Benson Leung and Nathan K., who whip out the protocol analyzer and the benchtop electronic loads.
This is a real good source:
