Re:Developers not Consumers
Nah... that's a specious arguement. Some of us still enjoy puzzling out cute little puzzles that make their way into games, but the only games where you find those are RPGs. Puzzle games have become a niche genre, and there are people claiming adventure games are pretty much extinct. So RPGs, themselves pretty rare, are the only place to find good puzzles to boggle the mind for a bit. And sure, I could look up the answers to say, the Korriban puzzles on Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, but I could just as easily hit up the interweb for cheats for any other game. Evil demons got you down in Doom? Haitians and Cubans got you on the run? Need help putting those Orcs and Tauren in their place? There's even cheats for sports games, but I don't know why you'd want to cheat those...
The bottom line is that puzzles will be enjoyed by those who like puzzles. You can cheat puzzles as easily as cheating anything else in the game and I'm sure there are plenty who do.

Re:I really doubt it.
A movie is a movie is a movie, doesn't matter if it's VHS, DVD or High-Def, you're not getting "more". Nor does it have a significant cost difference to the producer, they're all cut from the same masters, and up until a couple years ago, most people's TV sets could hardly show a difference between good VHS and DVD.
But, erm, typically, the master copy of a movie is a 35mm print. And last I checked, ye olde analog prints still have a higher resolution than HD. So, if the master is in good condition and it's transferred properly, then, yes, one can get more of the source onto HD than NTSC/PAL.
To see the difference, just goto one of those cinemas with the looping, digital ads before the feature, and compare the jaggies. We have a digi projector at the cinema I work for which throws 1024x768, and the pixels are rather large. 'Tis not quite 1080p, but it's a bit more than 720p. Just have a looksee at the closeup picture of Notepad on the screen here.

Thanks
Thanks Take-Two. And an especially big thanks to the geniuses at Rockstar. Your marketing ploy continues to send shockwaves through the industry. Nice job.

Re:Why are we even paying attention to this?Another perfect example to prove this case is that there are pieces left from a skateboard that was going to be included. The icon can still be found for it, but they pulled the skateboard as a vehicle. (Read more about it here: http://www.gtasanandreas.net/weapons/) And there is even a mod to allow you to switch the shovel with the skateboard, but you still can't ride it. They didn't remove all of it because it may have caused problems to the build. They removed just enough so that you wouldn't notice it.
But I think all of us know that this is far more important than silly little things like the Downing St memo or Karl Rove and his crazy antics. After all, this affects children!

Re:Rockstar was not untruthful
This was done by somebody. Somebody liked the idea, worked out a plan, and made a mini game about it. Several people, probably, as this required art, code, and sound support... maybe this was made just as a proof of concept so they could see how potentially offensive it might be.
So the likely hood is that when somebody said "no, that's too offensive / stupid / not fun," the people tasked with removing it did so reluctantly. They did the bare minimum required and removed the way to access it, probably with the forgotten intention of removing the whole thing "at some point."
This happens quite often when you're pressed for time. Old assets linger for very long during game development. Maybe they forgot about it entirely. Maybe they hoped that they would have time to polish it to an acceptable state during Beta. Maybe they just were more worried about getting the game to a playable state and out the door than they were that someone would hack the code and discover their minigame. Again, old stuff lingers... the dialog in KOTR2 and the levels in Legacy of Kain prove that. Quite frequently hacking around you can find old enemies that went unused, but still wound up on the disk, or prototype art, or what have you. This is really probably no different.
And since nobody has linked to any images of what we're arguing about, here is someone who has.

Re:Dumb Article
Yeah I noticed the same thing. Basically it's a round about way of making what the modder did seem "illegal", confusing the non informed reader (the people upset about this), and giving the appearance of this being something which was added by a 3rd party.
The sad part is this is an easier sell to the groups all up in arms about this than being up front and honest.
1 - It's for people age 17+. I don't think too many parents with a 17 year old would be upset about the actual content unlocked by the mod.
2 - a 3rd party made this content available, not rockstar.
3 - THERE IS NO DAMN NUDETY IN THE GAME! Some screen shots can be found here : http://www.gtasanandreas.net/news/single.php?id=14 69
Anyway I'm not a big fan of people running around suing everyone, but if it does in fact turn out this "mod" added content - Rockstar should take the punk to town.
It's just too bad they aren't releasing another GTA soon, because this publicity is priceless -
Re:GTA RatingsAgreed. Especially as the screenshots of the hack show the participants fully clothed. Extremely juvenile, not particularly erotic, and overall pretty silly.
I would estimate that the outcry over this is not so much a 'now *this* is too adult' response; it's more a 'see *what else* this depraved game can do' response. In other words, new ammunition for an exsiting battle.
However, to drag this silly mod into the public eye weakens any argument against GTA. The issue at hand is the glorification of violent crime for amusement sake, and this is where the dialogue should remain.
It's worth noting that Americans, decendants of both Puritans and rebels/revolutionaries, have always struggled with this dichotomy of reveling in activities that are essentially immoral. GTA is simply the latest incident in this long running public debate, which has been going on at least since dime novels popularized the exploits of outlaws at the turn of the last century.

Re:This is ridiculous!!!
I'm not enough of a weapons expert to know which is right, but I think the "grenade launcher" is actually a rocket propelled grenade launcher, the kind you see footage of people in the Middle East running around with. Start at the southeast corner of the bulls-eye-shaped park in Las Santos, go east, and it should be on top of the second building you pass. There's tons of other spawn points to, check here.

Re:Mirror link
Why is it that the video in this link is nude and the screenshots at the site referenced by the article have clothing? Are the images doctored?
-
Not True? Sure
Everyone seems to have jumped on the not-true bandwagon awfully quick. The mini-game sex animations are all in the game data, and the voice actors even did the voice acting for them. Among all this disbelief I posted a quick video at http://www.gtasanandreas.net/news/index.php/ with a video that should disprove any doubt.

For all you cartoon porn addictsPictures.
I've seen shampoo commercials that were more arousing.

Re:Why do they exist?
In this age of big business and artificial limitations I find it very refreshing that developers remember where they came from.
Mod that up, please. It's often fun to program a little trickery into these games, and far more fun to play a long, great-looking for a long time and find out you can play around with these hidden tricks.
I played SA and loved it, but hardly expected all those cheats. I think only the Genesis Sonic games have had better cheats--where else can you add hundreds of robots all around you in a debug code and then spin through 'em all at once?
