Re:Yes but
It seems to me they are missing a golden opportunity. Instead of policing and preventing use of copyrighted material, why not link to an online music store so you can BUY the songs to use with the charts?
Am I missing something here?
The GH3 site has links to iTunes to buy the original tracks, but that's not what you need to distribute cover versions - you need permission from the songwriters.

Re:Why?
Basically they are giving the consoles some of the functionality we have enjoyed for years with PC gaming.
I never had a game patch that killed my PC. -

Re:No Game Boy Player for Wii. Where's GH for PS3?Swwwweeet. I am so good with that. Do you remember the other 2? or have a link? I hope Bark at the Moon is still there. Tuff as bawls as it is, I love playing it.... It's only a comment in the GH forum (bottom of the page), so I'd take it with a bag of salt. You'd assume that once they reworked the original tracks to support GH2-style multiplayer, they'd release them online. IF they want to do that.

Re:Major Vs Minor
Way to suck the fun out of everything. I guess my dreams of being a rock star with no musical talent will have to wait.
Nope, apparently you're the precise target of Guitar Hero. -

Re:Ahh Jack...
It's definitely a good thing to allow judicial access to anyone with a beef. And maybe the first time this happens, you listen to them intently, give them as much leeway as necessary to make their case, and finally rule against them when it's clear they don't have a clue.
The fifth time, they should get a curt hearing, a cursory glance, and a "stop wasting my time" look. The tenth time...
Let's see what Thompson has had beefs with, shall we?
He has:
Sued the State of Florida to get the Florida Bar ruled unconstitutional.
Repeatedly filed baseless criminal harassment charges against radio stations, cartoonists, and other public figures.
Ironically, is known for threatening and harassing behavior, and has been removed from trials for such.
Charged Janet Reno with placing homosexual promotional material in public schools.
Sued 2-Live-Crue over obsenity in their work, lost, then followed up suing over their victory song about the first amendment.
Publically offered to make a 10,000 dollar donation to charity, then withdrew the offer as "satire."
Repeatedly tries to get obsenity charges against music, losing pretty much every time.
Has faced disbarrment charges. Was required by the Florida bar to prove self sane.
Has had repeated high-profile civil cases on behalf of bereaved parents against the entertainment industry, and hasn't won a single one.
With a list like that, the time for maximum allowable leeway has passed. Real people have real problems for the courts to solve. Wasting 100 hours of the court's time to play this game isn't going to help anybody.
(Full disclosure, I make videogames. Oh the Evil!) -
How is this a killer to Sony?
How is this going to kill Sony? The controller is just a controller. Heck if you want some "killer axes" check out these:
Diamond plate/fender style neck/head
Full Size Eternia Strat Body replacement
And that is just a taste of what is out there...
Again how is this going to kill Sony? Sony will have GH2 BEFORE everyone else! If anything that means its a WIN for Sony. It is "nice" that the 360 will get it, but it probably won't happen for at least several months after Sony has had people playing it (you guys do know this comes out in a couple weeks don't you?).
As for the controller, well, all I can say is that it is nothing compaired to ones I have seen out there.
Oh, didn't you guys also know this will be out on the Wii as well? I think they are also looking for a PC version too, but it might not happen because most people would rather play this on a big screen with a decent sound system, and not many people have their PC connected to those things (although I do). -
Re:Video enhances gameplay: but it's only a toppinWow. I can't believe you got modded up. To me, you look like a classic troll. Let's play dissection, shall we?
The PowerGlove. Favorite "Nintendo sucks" point of everyone. Let's start off with the fact it didn't have a killer game. Then let's add the fact that it costs 50% as much as the NES. In todays dollars, it would have cost about $175 (based on adjust NES price). Then we'll add the question "how good of a cooking simulator could the NES have made" and that point is rather obvious.
Real adults are lazy. No kidding. How many adults would buy a game where they would have to learn new motor skills to simulate a real life activity. Hmm. I wonder how many copies this obscure game sold before it failed on the market with it's $80 price tag? And let's not forget that if you had to swing a golf club all the time for a game or swing a sword, it would get tiring. Don't you think they will take that into account when companies make the games?
Sony and MS threw millions into gaming. What have they done... hmm.. instead of little kids, now some adults pay games too. Amazing! Yet, as a proportion of the total population, very few people play console games. TONS play little web games like Popcap's games. That is what Nintendo is trying to do. As for the "advances" that Sony and MS have made let's see about those...
- PS1 - Sony added a second set of shoulder buttons from the controller they stole off Nintendo. Wow.
- PS1 Analog - Sony added two analog sticks in rather dumb spots. Nintendo added an analog stick first.
- PS1 Dual Shock - Sony added rumble. Nintendo did that first too.
- PS2 - Hmm... nothing changed. No... wait... analog buttons. How many games use those successfully? Yeah, basically none.
- XBox - Took the Analog Saturn controller, move the main analog stick to where it should be, and made it the size of a bear. Oh yeah, it had those vestigial black and white buttons too.
Nintendo has, on the other hand, made the d-pad, the analog stick, rumble, the first excellent wireless controller, the first microphone in a controller (in the Famicom), etc. Nintendo introduced an expandable controller with the N64. MS copied it (and the DC's controller) to the letter.
Want proof controllers don't matter? Let's point out a special controller that costs at least $40 for a piece of junk (the wheel) and probably $100 for a good one, is only good for one kind of games, and is not included with the system and see how well it sells compared to the games. You're kidding right? You're comparing a single use controller that isn't bundled in (see: any fishing controller, light guns since after the Zapper) to a multi-purpose controller with motion sensing, accurate pointing, a speaker, a microphone (according to some), and more that will come bundled with the console?
In conclusion, the Atari 2600 killed the game industry because it was flooded with crappy "me too" content and Nintendo came around and resurrected it. Now Nintendo will kill the industry by innovating and trying new things while Sony and MS flood the market with crappy "me too" content which will save it thanks to their innovative new controllers that add two vestigial buttons.
I hope your post was sarcasm and every mod (and me) just misread it.

Re:Where's Joe Stump?
What the hell, why I don't see anything by Joe Stump?
Probably because this is a PARTIAL setlist and there's been like a bazillion incredibly good guitarists over the years.
Go to the GH web site and complain in their forums. Ya know, someplace where you might actually be heard. -
Re:What's so great about Guitar Hero?
From a quick glance it would seem to be the same game but there are plenty of differences.
Different control scheme, Hammer-ons, pull offs, more fret buttons, wammy bar, star power/rock out mode(the motion sensing game play element), Rock music that isn't Jrock(not that I have anything against Jrock), and awards from many many people (http://www.guitarherogame.com/rockalades.asp) -
Re:The Things I Want...
You're not the only one who thought Van Halen was missing. Or AC/DC, or several others. You can't blame RedOctane for not trying - these bands were asked, they just declined. Hopefully there'll be more of these bands showing up for GH2.
