Are you kidding? There are probably half a dozen movies put out every year that are as bad or worse than that one, and that only exist because of huge subsidies to Canadian movie producers. There are occasional gems, but probably 80%+ of it is crap. It's so bad that half of what they presented in the show "Made In Canada", a parody of the Canadian film/tv industry, is probably based on reality.

It's a great show, by the way. Kind of like what would happen if you did a version of "The Office", but set it in the movie industry (and "Made in Canada" pre-dates "The Office", so it isn't just a rip-off). I think my favorite part is that the fake production company ("Pyramid Productions") is an obvious parody of Alliance-Atlantis, which was the parent company of the actual company that made "Made In Canada". Alliance Atlantis was responsible for *a*lot* of B-grade movies. It's like "Made in Canada" was an inside documentary of why so many of those awful things got made :-)

Our TV/Radio has some rules about a certain amount of Canadian content.

The 'special features' for Star Gate Continuum has comments about them using a 16mm film camera to film up in the Artic b/c (i) anyone there could service the camera on the spot, and (ii) the camera was better adapted for the environment with a proven track record of performance.

There are definitely landlords out there who do not do credit checks. They are my favorite landlords.

I have purchased many buildings for well below market value when these landlords get themselves into trouble with problem tenants. They'll do anything for me to take their problem off their hands.

FYI- landlord/tenant laws are generally enforced pretty zealously. I can't think of a single landlord/tenant law that is just ignored. Tenants' rights groups, legal aid, etc., make sure that landlords who don't follow the law get put out of business.

Last night, my daughter and I watched the 1948 The Three Musketeers. Definitely not High Culture. But exciting, and fun.

We are rapidly sliding down a slippery slope of discrimination based on genetics...choosing the superior race and all that, and choosing sex, hair and eye colour are just the beginning of such nonsense. I really don't care what someone's eyes or hair colour are...everyone is beautiful and priceless and EQUALLY important! What is with idiots wanting to select eye and hair colour? Lunacy of the first order. I don't care what colour my baby's eye and hair colour are, or anyone elses. Such appalling narcissism, prejudice (blue is better than green, let's say...WHY? Is white skin better than black? Is muslim better than jewish? Et cetera, ad infinitum.) And as we reach the $100 genome level, and companies/universities, etc. start deciding that only those with the proper genes will be hired/admitted, etc. (blue eyes, blond hair, Germanic race...sound familiar?), you may find yourself being discriminated against a lot sooner than you think. Only the expense and time involved in sequencing has protected people from genetic discrimination...those 'problems' are soon going to disappear, when it will become very cheap (e.g. $100) to find out all the genetic secrets that an HR dept/insurance companies/etc. screening new applicants, etc. would want to know. Gattaca society is rapidly approaching. They also show screening based on genetic characteristics of embryos in the movie.

Unfortunately I agree, many people on the roads seem to be unsafe drivers. Reminds me of Sandra Bullock's driving in "Speed 2: Cruise Control". I think people are better when tested, once they have a license they become demons.
