A little rarer one but definately up there...Dr. Calligari.
The original 1920's Dr. Calligari is of course a classic and way ahead of his time as a Crazy Scientist:http://imdb.com/title/tt0010323/ It was also remade last year as: http://imdb.com/title/tt0441741/
The one that really takes the prize is his grandaughter though. The 1989 Dr. Calligari is WAY out (and up) there: http://imdb.com/title/tt0097228/

Re:No Matter Where You Go, There You Are
Buckaroo Banzai? Oh, please! He's just a pale imitation of a real action hero like Doc Savage, with all the charisma of a dead fish. Doc Savage was a scientist, inventor, adventurer and detective as well as a brilliant surgeon. Not only that, he really did have charisma.

Dr. Foot
Dr. Foot, in the movie HELP!
"With a ring like that I could, dare I say it, rule the world!"
Acutally, maybe I liked his side kick better... -
The Man in the White Suit -Alec Guinness
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0044876/
Alec Guinness as a geeky scientist who invents something that will ruin several industries and upset many worker's lives. Like many Scientists is is more concerned with the creation and problems to to be solved rather than the possible effects on society.
Runners up -the Kids in the Hall as scientists in Brain Candy
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0116768/
From the Cartoon World I would have to say it's a 4-way tie between:
Professor Membrane (Invader Zim)
Doctor Venture (Venture Bros)
Dexter (Dexter's Laboratory)
Professor Utonium (PowerPuff girls)

Re:The most realistic
Oh, if realism is your thing - Dr. Julia Kelly from The Peacemaker
Didn't do any science, but ran around in a short skirt being a bit pissed off at Clooney showing off, and looking quite shocked in a "you can't do that" way as he went around shooting things. Quite an understated performance I felt from a mass market thriller. -
I will pick up that gauntletLet's hear another scientist top that quote.
I humbly submit:
New Jersey: Why is there a watermelon there?
Reno: I'll tell you later.
Hell, you could probably take half a dozen other quotes from The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension.
Of course, Real Genius had some great lines too. -

Most Horrifying Scientist?
I know it's not the "favorite," but Gregory Peck's portrayal of Nazi Dr. Josef Mengele in The Boys From Brazil was a good portrayal of a nasty mad scientist in quite a disturbing film...
(It also has Sir Laurence Olivier as a Nazi hunter...) -
Re:The scientists in Jurassic Park
Sam Neil played scientist too in Event Horizon, even if was in a bit more evil role.

A scientist... in the field of science! That'd have to be Dr. Paul Armstrong, from The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra. He's a scientist... in the field of science!
He strives for advancement.
"You know what this meteor could mean to science. It could mean actual advances in the field of science!"
Yet he knows in his scientist heart that there's more to the world around him.
"As a scientist I just wish I could appreciate more things like cabins... bicycles..."

Brent Spiner
While Data (ST:TNG) isn't a scientist, certainly Dr. Noonian Soong is. Another very memorable scientist Spiner protrayed was the Area 51 scientist from Independence Day, Dr. Okun: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0116629/

Dr. Charles Forbin
Doc Forbin, builds and subsequently fights his own "brilliant" operating system in "Colossus: The Forbin Project". Reminds me of every day in App Maintenance.

Re:Quotes"Hey, hey, hey. Don't be mean. We don't have to be mean because, remember, no matter where you go, there you are. "
It's Buckaroo Banzai!! -
Re:Only one choice for me...
Same here. Though, Brent Spiner as Dr. Okun in Independence Day was a close second for me as it showed his versatility. It was sort of like the stereotypical "mad scientist" and was quite entertaining to see him play. Too bad his part did not last longer.

Wrong, wrong, wrong...
I think we all know that the real question here is, in a straight, clean fight, who wins, Airwolf or Bluethunder?. Now I know what your thinking? What chance does stright to video star Jan-Michael Vincent have against HAL chess playing, shark killing, SeaQuest DSV commanding Roy Scheider? Well to you I say, don't forget that Airwolf co-pilot was none other than Poseidon surviving, Gattaca acting, SpongeBob SquarePants Mermaid Man (I shit you not) Ernest Borgnine. Yeah people. Not so easy now is it?

Pass Bar Exam - Collect $200 - Extort without JailLook, anyone with a financial interest in the law business http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0070509/ figures out that EXTORTION IS LAW!
- The logic is clear, you accept our bargain and pay us or we take you to court so settlement talks go here or you obey the law or we take away your freedom in the criminal justice system.
EXTORTION IS LAW! Did you expect to hear the word fair? Bah - you need to think like a lawyer!

Re:Fight your own battles.Your basic responsibility to society is to procreate. The reason society puts up with capitalism is that it allows people to procreate. If you can't do one or the other, there's a failure someplace.
I don't know about you, but I live in the land of the free. Free of despotism, and free of that bastard stepchild of despotism known as communism. I am free to do (in the words of Penn Jillette) "whatever the fuck I want." I don't owe society anything. I am my own person, I am not some drone that belongs to a hive.
Here, society gives back whatever you give to it. If you give it nothing, you get nothing in return, and your life becomes somewhat meaningless. How much you give to it, and how much you accept in return, is entirely up to you. Whether or not you want to procreate is entirely up to you. You don't have to answer to anybody but yourself. That is the glory of freedom, you ought to try it one day; let go of those borg like shackles you're wearing.

GNAA Announces Cleansing Of The Star Trek Gene PooGNAA Announces Cleansing Of The Star Trek Gene Pool
Impi - Black Ops, South AfricaIt is with great regret that we in the glorious GNAA were called to arms against a revered institution known as Star Trek. Impi, while in training as a high priest in the popular religious cult scientology, was approached by William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy to contract the services of the Black Ops wing of the GNAA.
Both Shatner and Nimoy, on which the Star Trek franchise and legend were built, expressed serious concern with regard to the affront of a little known "television station" called G4TV.
"Star Trek prides itself on boldly going where no man has gone before. Not boldly sitting on your fat ass and playing computer games and talking about it in a failed IRC channel!" said Shatner. "G4TV is taking the very ethos of Star Trek and perverting it for profit. They have targeted a segment of the population known as Fatmerica. Their actions in sanctioning such an event promote obesity and diabetes within our youth and we as Star Trek representatives do not want to be associated with this sentiment."
Leonard Nimoy was instrumental in crafting the attack on #startrek20 on the IRC network irc.gamesurge.net. Using an exploit that allowed a redirect from the www.g4tv.com to the infamous Last Measure, many fatties were tricked into being Last Measured.
"They turned on us," said Neal Tiles, president of G4TV. "It was like stampede at a buffet, there was nothing we could do. People were ping timing out all over the place. Mothers were calling the station asking why their children were looking at gay porno. It was a nightmare. Our moderator of the channel, Ravager|CH, tried valiantly to keep things together, but he was eventually g-lined due to massive complaints against the channel."
The overwhelming success of the operation was reflected by the failed moderator Ravager|CH own words: [23:37] <Ravager|CH> another ruined night..

While we're mentioning it...
I've had thoughts for a while of producing a mud-type game with an entirely simulated AI. Not allowing language helps a lot, which may make multi-player interaction a problem, but it would be nice to pass a Turing test in a silent environment. It would only work in the right kind of game, obviously (so this has been an interesting discussion thread to read).
All I really had to contribute was: I thoroughly recommend "Inferno", a short film from 2001 about a FPS based on a learning AI, with the film told from the point of view of one of the AIs (who falls in love with the player).
For a comedy, it's actually quite informative about how this kind of thing could turn out if the AI was intelligent enough.

Re:sniffs pirate DVDs only
Actually, I heard the dogs were only able to detect movies such as Hulk and League of Extraordinary Gentlemen as these had particularly strong odors. Indeed, I would not be surprised to discover if many of the movies released today have been specifically engineered for this attribute just to make it easier for dogs to detect them.

In some countries...
... you have to pay customs to watch your media.
In Chile it used to be so that if the customs people at the airport found a video tape or DVD in your luggage, it was retained for a couple of days so they could check it for illegal porn, or forbidden movies (like the last temptation of Christ). To recover your material you had to go pick it up at the customs office (which was a major pain in the ass if you planned on leaving the city where you entered the country in your first few days here), and pay a "viewing fee". In other words, they passed the cost of someone viewing your stuff onto you.
I don't know what the situation is now, though. I haven't heard of this being applied in the last few years.

*Sigh*I agree with most of the postings here. I've been a shadowrunner of somesort since I bought the Second Edition in the early 90's. Never played the Genesis game, but I own the SNES game, many of the novels, and tons of the PNP books.
That being said, I DID RTFA. And I wept. Let me tell you why. I totally grok "starting" over. There is simply too much in the Shadowrun universe to drop into a new game. A game company is going to need a lot more people to buy this thing than just Shadowrun fanboys like me. And while they're at it, they don't have to stay 100% faithful to the "canon", if you ask me. However, I am highly skeptical of the Lineage/RNA organisations being introducted.
So let's talk about game-style. OK, yes, there are definitely instances (quite often) when you perform as a team in Shadowrun. Christ though, anyone familiar with Shadowrun can tell you that the ultimate expression of this dystopian cyberpunk setting would be an MMORPG similar to Anarchy. The Bladerunner-esqe cityscapes would be amazing. But most importantly, the very nature of the setting lends itself perfectly to an MMO. Unlike SWG, there is no Jedi class. There are no huge, big-name heroes that everyone wants to be - runners live hard and die fast. Players could be samurai, riggers, deckers (scuse me, hackers now) - but even more interesting would be service classes. What if players could become fixers or arms-dealers or fences? Living spaces would also be a good tool; the players could squat on the streets or live in luxury. In the end, I will probably still have to at least rent the damn game, but I don't see myself putting anything more into this "series" unless the gameplay evolves DRASTICALLY in the next iteration. And given the opinions I've seen, I'm not sure there will be another one. They could have slapped together the world's crappiest turn-based RPG, but if it mentioned Fuchi, deckers, and/or dragons, the fanboys would come out of the woodwork. Now, I'm not sure WHO is going to buy this.
Lastly, the closest movie I can think of to Shadowrun would be Johnny Mnemonic. I'm not saying it's good. But it's a helluva lot closer than "The Matrix".
