I also recommend a Room Defender: if it starts going off, someone is at your door.

Re:ScatterChat
That's about what you'd need to be sure. If you think you're being spyed on then bare in mind that the various security services (MI5/6, NSA etc) have been able to tell what you're typing by listening to your key strokes (with a microphone) for years (make that decades, pretty much since keyboards came into common use for messaging).
There are systems that get around this as well.
If you can be assued of the visual security of your monitor (closed room bare walls everything TEMPEST compliant) then use a system that randomly rearranges how keys are interpetted by the computer, display a template at the bottom of the screen. Typing would be all hunt and peck, but it would be secure from audio intervention.
Or you could just use a membrane keyboard! :) Or juse use one of these -
Re:Think simple...
A toilet seat that projected a red X on the water at night when the seat was in the up postion and a green circle when the seat was down sure would be nice.

Is it irony or just unfortunate?
Wouldn't it be ironic if we had the technology to blast this sucker away from our orbit, but lacked the quantity of fossil fuels necessary to accomplish the task with present technology?
Aren't we supposed to be out of oil by then?
Better start working on nuclear propulsion with leaving the earth's orbit.
Or we'll be trying to shoot it down with compressed-air rockets like these. -
Oh yeah
try and get me with that and I'll get you with this Rata ta tat

My work released their April Fool products early
... so that our customers could trick people with them. Hopefully me posting this link won't ruin that.

Re:Assembly AND Military Experience Required
But that's because the L-39's are fairly cheap and come with free home delivery.

magic tree?
the same company sells a beer key
I think /.er's would find that a lot more useful ;) -
Some more ideas
A LED flashlight that will knock their Christmas stockings off. MAME fans will want an arcade joystick. Or if they prefer their classic gaming fun on the go, a portable SNES/NES/2600. Some others have mentioned Leatherman tools. From Thinkgeek, an LED binary clock. How about an Archos media player? Probably not geeky, but something weird like this a magic tree. Or lastly, and perhaps not least, a very affordable Shortwave radio for $10.

Re:WmD
Cool, that works with both pronounciations.
These kind of "office toys" play havoc with one's productivity in the office. I have bought a couple of toys (namely a Mini MP5 Gun and a Rubber Band Gun, and both caused much merriment, and less work. I know I could kiss work goodbye if I had one of these babies!

Re:Where to buy in UK
I don't think it is the same brand but try Iwantoneofthose.com. They are selling something similar in the "Toys and Games" section for about twenty quid.
