Re:Disable Java == Broken Websites
I haven't seen a non-work related website requiring actual Java in years.
KeepVid (download youtube videos)
Granted they aren't super common sites to visit, but people would enable Java applets there (if they can -- apparently chrome can't) to use them.

Re:Good luck with that
Interesting... it's labelled incorrectly as "2160p" on Keepvid, but it does appear to be 7680x4320.

Re:Is it an interesting question...
Youtube doesnt provide me with the option to download this "new" edited version of it
Friend, this is the digital age. It doesn't matter if YouTube doesn't offer the option. Many other places already do.

Re:What the hell?
you can download video from youtube, this is how:
http://keepvid.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DdBnniua6-oM
what you will see is that fructose is in all processed foods, including breads, juices, beverages, fast food, etc.
So rather than arguing with me, watch the movie and direct questions to the doctor from the presentation.
Cheers.

Re:flash sucks
Have you seen the iPhone version of youtube? It's not flash, but h.264.
.flv is just MPEG-4 video (or maybe H.264 now) and VBR MP3 audio muxed into yet another container format. If you can get an HTTP URL for the video you want (KeepVid works well with YouTube), you can download the video with Firefox or wget, play it with mplayer, transcode to a more sensible format with mencoder, etc. All that the iPhone's YouTube app is doing is automating some of these steps. -
Re:Youtube saving tool
I would also recommend:
http://keepvid.com/ -
Why not use KeepVid? Nothing to install. The KeepVid site works beautifully.
You get the original flv video, no ads, no adware, nothing to install, just the video. But, of course, if you just cannot live without a "Save as" option in a menu...

Re:Thats a pretty stupid mystery app
http://vixy.net/ is better (it converts it for you too). That site looks like a http://keepvid.com/ ripoff

Re:Slightly ot... a nit pick about the file cache
You might want to take a look at Tools -> Page Info -> Media in Firefox. Also http://keepvid.com/ exists.

Re:Oh, come on!
The video advert bit is a no-brainer - it is available (but harder to implement) in flash already. Some sites have tried it, and it sometimes works but mainly doesn't.
I'm more worried about the DRM - sites like keepvid and javimoya; plus my very own UnPlug allow you to download the FLV files. If FLVs get DRM, that's bad news for me. But I don't really get how they'll implement this.
Plus there are already ways to obfuscate the content - using the RTMP protocol to transfer videos will already get you a free pass from almost any FLV downloader, and more besides. So what's to gain?
I'm guessing it will be snapped up by myspace, who already do an awful lot to hide their music (you can put mp3 in the flv container), and everyone else will wait and see. -
Can't download?
http://keepvid.com/
That, plus a set of video converters/transcoders will give you a poor-mans (well, with a computer) Tivo for BBC content with this new agreement.

Re:Flash video
Yeah, more or less. You have to download the
.swf file, then extract the url of the .flv file from it, then download that. There's a script to get the URL at http://www.keepvid.com/. There's also a firefox plugin that'll do it for you. -
Re:Ask yourself this...
http://keepvid.com/
you might find this to be handy. -
Re:Who?
All I know is I wish I could view youtube clips on my TV without any file conversion
- Download video from YouTube (KeepVid will give you the download link).
- Connect TV to your Linux box.
- mplayer -fs foo.flv
...- Profit!
-
Re:Direct video link?
Copy the Youtube URL into this: http://keepvid.com/
-
Download on YouTube
You can download on YouTube too, if you know how.

Try Keepvid.comI can't see a way to download the videos to you[r] HD
Go to Keepvid.com They may not have Yahoo!Video support yet but I'm sure they will soon since they already support downloads for YouTube, GoogleVideo, iFilm, Break, FindVideos, etc. etc.

Re:Apple iTunes store lawsuit?
The versions on iTMS are pay once, own forever (not streaming).
Under normal circumstances there is nothing to prevent you from downloading flash videos and saving them. eg http://keepvid.com/
or you can just make a copy our of your browser cache. -
Re:Cannot?
Also, keep in mind that there are sites like this one:
http://keepvid.com/
Devoted to helping people extract the video feeds from these sites. It'll be interesting to see how long it takes for automated extraction tools to become usable with these streams. -
Re:YouTube will eventually die.
I hate any site that doesn't let me save the video to my HDD
KeepVid will let you save the video from most of the popular video sharing sites, including YouTube. -
Re:What about downloading
Keepvid.com might help you there. It gives you the link for easy saving. You might need that viewer for the Flashvideo files depending on your setup.
