First Trout
It has come to my attention that the entire Linux community is a hotbed of so called 'alternative sexuality', which includes anything from hedonistic orgies to homosexuality to paedophilia.
What better way of demonstrating this than by looking at the hidden messages contained within the names of some of Linux's most outspoken advocates:
- Linus Torvalds is an anagram of slit anus or VD 'L,' clearly referring to himself by the first initial.
- Richard M. Stallman, spokespervert for the Gaysex's Not Unusual 'movement' is an anagram of mans cram thrill ad.
- Alan Cox is barely an anagram of anal cox which is just so filthy and unchristian it unnerves me.
I'm sure that Eric S. Raymond, composer of the satanic homosexual propaganda diatribe The Cathedral and the Bizarre, is probably an anagram of something queer, but we don't need to look that far as we know he's always shoving a gun up some poor little boy's rectum. Update: Eric S. Raymond is actually an anagram for secondary rim and cord in my arse. It just goes to show you that he is indeed queer.
Update the Second: It is also documented that Evil Sicko Gaymond is responsible for a nauseating piece of code called Fetchmail, which is obviously sinister sodomite slang for 'Felch Male' -- a disgusting practise. For those not in the know, 'felching' is the act performed by two perverts wherein one sucks their own post-coital ejaculate out of the other's rectum. In fact, it appears that the dirty Linux faggots set out to undermine the good Republican institution of e-mail, turning it into 'e-male.'
As far as Richard 'Master' Stallman goes, that filthy fudge-packer was actually quoted on leftist commie propaganda site Salon.com as saying the following: 'I've been resistant to the pressure to conform in any circumstance,' he says. 'It's about being able to question conventional wisdom,' he asserts. 'I believe in love, but not monogamy,' he says plainly.
And this isn't a made up troll bullshit either! He actually stated this tripe, which makes it obvious that he is trying to politely say that he's a flaming homo slut!
Speaking about 'flaming,' who better to point out as a filthy chutney ferret than Slashdot's very own self-confessed pederast Jon Katz. Although an obvious deviant anagram cannot be found from his name, he has already confessed, nay boasted of the homosexual perversion of corrupting the innocence of young children. To quote from the article linked:
'I've got a rare kidney disease,' I told her. 'I have to go to the bathroom a lot. You can come with me if you want, but it takes a while. Is that okay with you? Do you want a note from my doctor?'
Is this why you were touching your penis in the cinema, Jon? And letting the other boys touch it too?
We should also point out that Jon Katz refers to himself as 'Slashdot's resident Gasbag.' Is there any more doubt? For those fortunate few who aren't aware of the list of homosexual terminology found inside the Linux 'Sauce Code,' a 'Gasbag' is a pervert who gains sexual gratification from having a thin straw inserted into his urethra (or to use the common parlance, 'piss-pipe'), then his homosexual lover blows firmly down the straw to inflate his scrotum. This is, of course, when he's not busy violating the dignity and co

Re:SLI: Sorely Lacking IMO
My system runs 32-bit XP. It's the OS I installed when I built the computer, I haven't had to re-install it since the build.
XPx64 DOESN'T NEED THE WORKAROUND AS IT'S SERVER 2K3/VISTA BASED.. Which is what that machine is running.
So your observations and your experiences with a completely different operating system have no bearing on my situation, which is exactly what I was trying to say to someone else in the post that you so rudely replied to. Your anecdotal experience doesn't invalidate the frustration and wasted time which has been a prominent side effect of my experience with two consecutive SLI rigs.
It's the equivalent of me saying "there is no way I can ride my bicycle to work in under 30 minutes" and you responding with "you fucking idiot I can drive that distance in my car in under 10 minutes, the problem is YOU".
You have problems reading.
Also you're doing it wrong.
Go read your manual and figure out what you're doing wrong, because it's guaranteed to be YOU.
So because a feature wasn't implemented on my OS, but it was implemented on another OS, I'm "doing it wrong". And pointing this out to someone constitutes having "reading problems"? And despite scouring the internet and nvidia's own technical documentation, the problem is "guaranteed to be me". Amazing work dude, you are an inspiration to us all.
Seeing as I'm running 32-bit XP, the rest of your most recent comment makes no sense. Seeing as how you brought up WDDM, you might want to have a read about the differences between WDDM and XPDM, one of the major ones being WDDM's complete architectural redesign of how the display driver handles multiple displays. This improvement to Vista's display driver mode is important because it's what allowed nvidia to finally allow SLI mode to use multiple displays, something they had been trying to accomplish for more than four years without success.
Obviously WDDM (Windows Vista Display Driver Mode) isn't available in Windows XP 32-bit, it's an architectural change in the OS. So no, there is no ".ini hack" that will magically enable an entirely new driver architecture on Windows XP which nvidia's driver requires to allow SLI with multiple displays. If it was that fucking easy why wouldn't nvidia just allow XP users to use it? Fucking idiot.
You talk about your extensive nvidia experience, but when examined your actual words bely your complete fucking ignorance on the topic.

Re:SLI: Sorely Lacking IMO
Yes it is an issue considering even with PAE Windows XP 32-bit (Professional version) is LOCKED to 4GB maximum.

You simply CANNOT use more.

Some Feds - Paedophile Ring - Helpfulness
Having worked with a few Special Agents to break an international paedophile ring a few years ago, I can say from experience, the F.B.I have very few agents well equipped and extremely clued up. I was lucky to get in touch with the right special agents, although I hit a complete brick wall beforehand with agents who's mission in life was "COFEE and donuts" excuse the cofee joke http://www.microsoft.com/industry/government/solutions/cofee/default.aspx
The same is of Scotland Yard and the Metropolitan Police, who have people in IT that are complete idiots. At the end of this investigation, I only got a thank you off one senior special agent and Scotland Yard just completely blanked me. The officers from the Metropolitan Police decided to take all the credit for my hard work.
If it was not for Special Agent Daniels, my faith in helping out as a hacker would have been eroded many years ago.

Re:Dear God...
Read this, to which I did link. Notice the (R) next to "SQL Server". I think evidence of success counts as an example of an attempt.

Re:Dear God...
They tried. Oh gods, they tried. Looking at the last story about this one, it looks like Microsoft SQL Server is the only boxed product that includes manuals, distribution media, etc. that can be called "SQL Server".
Read and weep. -

Yeah.
If the "Fluent user interface" were really so intuitive, why would Microsoft need a page that starts off with

Re:Adaption...
Our business moved to Office 2007 and will be moving to 2010 and I initially had patience for the ribbon arguments. Extensive and expensive training was offered (a full day to the power users) and we spent quite a bit of money giving everyone laminated quick reference cards on where to find various key functions. Here is a site from MS we based alot of it off of - http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/training/guides-to-the-ribbon-use-office-2003-menus-to-learn-the-office-2007-user-interface-HA010229584.aspx
What we found is that it takes about a week for people to get used to it and get up to full productivity. It actually increases productivity after awhile with it because there are fewer clicks and finding new things becomes more intuitive believe it or not - MS spent millions on UI research to develop this and certain aspects of it like the live preview of what a change will look like as you hover over it are a godsend.
That is somewhat besides what I see at the main point though. As an office worker, your key competenency these days is being able to use MS Office. I am expected to stay current in the various tools and knowledge I need to do my job. If an employee can't or won't take the training offered and the time necessary to learn how to use MS Office (and the ribbon is here to stay and the paradigm is working its way into other apps now as well) in order to continue to be a useful Office worker than I don't have much patience for that argument. If they are unwilling to stay current and learn what is a pretty easy new skill, on which there is much material, which is key to their role and future employability then fire them and bring in somebody who is.

Silverlight works in Chrome. The site is broken!
Use this extension to change Chrome's UA string to something this Tuva site will accept. I changed it to IE8 and installed the latest version of Silverlight for good measure.

Re:No support != reason to stop
umm... because xp is in "extended support" http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/?LN=en-gb&C2=1173
U are not receiving new features / sp's but you are getting bug fixes currently. The problem with keeping on keeping on with a EOL operating system will be that it will be increasingly difficult to secure it.

Wow, using a free browser addon that has versions for Windows, Mac, and Linux
That's interesting. Because, you see, I just went here, was told my browser was not officially supported so I should go here and install moonlight. Okay, cool, so I do it and go back to here. Guess what. No lecture. That's some support.
I don't think I'd enjoy your Internet very much.
My html5 open standards based internet is fantastic, thank you very much. Works on my iPhone, my Xoom, my Ubuntu netbook, my Ubuntu desktop, and my Droid smartphone. Have fun playing with your silverflash.

Re:Really? Not really, they stopped last year.
October 22, 2010 is the last date you can sell a PC with XP on it, from Microsoft. If someone is continuing to sell them, that's between the purchaser and the seller, and Microsoft would not be too happy about it.

Microsoft is not selling XP, resellers are. And Microsoft would prefer you chose Windows 7, not XP.

Firewalls/routers & SynAttackProtect... apk
I don't know about you guys, but I have had to "stave off" DDOS attacks before, & I had to do so (perhaps NOT "the best way" (is there such a thing vs. DDOS?))... & it was HELL!
I had to keep adding rules & ENTIRE RANGES (blocks of them) to 'keep out' rather than try to stall each connection, individually.
Something called "egress filtering" is another avenue also. You do that @ your "edge routers", & it filters off INSIDE units, vs. outside ones. It's much like doing a software OR ROUTER firewall rule, imo @ least (but not ALL routers do this afaik either)!
ANYWAYS/ANYHOW - THIS IS WHY I HATE FRIGGIN MALWARE, BOTNETS, &/or DOS & DDOS TOOLS (& botnets/malware that can do them as well)... this form of attack? VERY hard to stop, especially if DDOS vs. DOS.
APK
P.S.=> For those interested? Per my subject-line above, Windows has a TCP/IP parameter that helps, some vs. DOS/DDOS attacks:

Re:This has gone too far
I would also think, it is taking a tongue in cheek poke at M$ for their marketing exercise in claiming that anyone that used open source software was a open source religious zealot. M$ did it for years in any media they could access, in order to make those people who recommended open source look bad and threaten their careers unless they complied with M$ corporate marketing decisions.
understandable from someone using evangelists. Unfortunately, ms is a religion that's yet to produce a saint.

Re:This is the best thing they can do.
There have been a few hacks like this one which leverage things like DLL/COM redirection to allow you to run multiple versions of Internet Explorer in the same Windows installation. Someone has also written an installer which allows you to run Internet Explorer 7 and all previous versions side by side in Windows XP.

Re:Oh pleaseUm, as I recall Microsoft implemented WebDAV in Windows long before anyone else. It was included in Internet Explorer 5 as "Web Folders" under "My Computer" in Windows 98/Me (and possibly even under Windows 95). The WebDAV redirector has been included in every modern (NT based) version of Windows from 2000 to Vista, and you can download KB907306 and install it to get the origional web folders client on newer Windows as well.
Over the years there have been a few security fixes to the Windows implementations which have broken some features, it was not the easiest to use, and it's popularity has declined over the years. Most of the WebDAV functionality is being removed or replaced in current products (like Exchange Server, SharePoint and Hotmail), so it is dying out as far as support from Microsoft.
In my own experiences WebDAV has worked flawlessly in even the oldest Windows clients (running software like DreamWeaver) and IIS. Other implementations done on Apache were more spotty (but that was some time ago).

Re:And nothing of value was lost
How much is a cost of an abstraction layer in native code, really? A well-designed abstraction layer would pretty much always just call directly into the underlying API where the latter provides all the necessary functionality. And modern C++ compilers are exceedingly good at inlining, even across translation unit boundaries (with link-time code generation, which VC++ supports), which puts the cost squarely at zero.
Even where the features are available but semantics are sufficiently different where translation would be required on one of the platforms, it is reasonable to designate one platform as primary, and design the abstraction layer such that it maps directly, with no translation, to the API provided by that platform. On other platforms, you pay the price of translation, but at least they're supported. In case of IE9+, the primary platform would then be 7 (and API would be D2D), and secondary platform would be XP.
So it's a weak argument from a technological point of view. Now, from a managerial one, implementing the layer where there was none before is extra cost. If it can't be justified, then why do it? But that's a different matter entirely, and has nothing to do with "native HTML5" and similar marketing silliness.

Re:This is the best thing they can do.
Except for on Vista. IE8 and 9 have broken high DPI support.
Can you clarify? I googled for "IE8 high DPI", and the very first thing I hit is MSDN doc page which says the exact opposite - that IE8 is DPI-aware - and even gives screenshots where both browser chrome and the webpage rendering scale.

Re:It's just word!!
Regarding the PDF issue I think it's too hard to hold this against Microsoft as they actually implemented support for PDF writing in Office 2007 but was threatened by Adobe with an antitrust suit if they didn't removed the feature. See this article and this Microsoft press response.
Besides, this shouldn't be a major issue for most users. As there are better ways of implementing PDF-writing support by installing a PDF-printer in the OS, for example using the free software program PDFCreator. This way all applications that can print can save to PDF-files. For efficient then implementing it in every program.

Re:Crafty, I guess
And you are linking to old annual reports. The latest linked on that page is 2008. At which point Nintendo absolutely were surging ahead. Nintendo's profits for 2010-11 are... ok... but they are below expectations and trending downwards (though the impact of the 3DS remains to be seen. At the same time, the latest MS quarterly results show a healthy profit from Entertainment and Devices division, which you will also find (albeit to a slightly lesser degree without the Kinnect bubble) in previous statements.

Re:One reason alone
the fact that it's impossible to have a window in-focus without raising it
You can have mouse input on a window (including clicks) without raising it, by catching WM_MOUSEACTIVATE and having it return MA_NOACTIVATE.
If you want keyboard focus to a window without raising it, then you've either mastered blind typing, or probably want to set another window as topmost.

Re:Did Microsoft ever claim it was?
Even the "Google was lying" part wasn't from Microsoft, but from sensationalist media.
If you had read TFA then you might have seen this blog entry by David Howard who is Corporate Vice President & Deputy General Counsel for Microsoft. He says Google is lying about their FISMA certification:
Google can't be under the misimpression that FISMA certification for Google Apps Premier also covers Google Apps for Government. If that were the case, then why did Google, according to the attachments in the DOJ brief, decide to file a separate FISMA application for Google Apps for Government?
Nor does it seem likely that Google believes that the two offerings are so similar that the differences simply won't matter to people. After all, if the facts are so good, why persist in telling a fiction?
Why do you continue to lie in order to try to cover up the previous lies? Didn't your mother ever teach you the story about the boy who cried wolf?

Luckily....
Microsoft doesn't have an advertising arm, nor is it aggressively moving into IPTV services. Their software platforms also have an excellent record of never being compromised, and the Kinect makes it trivially evident when its mics and/or camera are active.
Thus, there is no possible way in which this could be sinister. I was worried there for a minute... -

Re:Java killer?
And anyone who thinks the lack of the above features is a good thing should pack it all in and become a VB programmer, so not to hurt themselves.
Even VB supports operator overloading these days. Seriously..

Re:Why is it sneaky?
Yes, IA-64 has forced the addition of __unaligned in particular, and of course the OS API is clean in that respect.
The problem is that unaligned access cannot be reliably detected at compile-time. You can always upcast any pointer to void* (which cannot by itself trigger a warning), pass it around, and then downcast to something else. Even for direct cross-casts such as "(int*)&a_char", they may be perfectly legal if a_char is union'd with int. The compiler can probably catch it when a local has its address taken directly and then immediately cast, but not for much else.
That said, I don't think it's a big deal in practice. I certainly haven't seen many cases where it would matter in C++ code that I've dealt with in the last 5 years.

Re:So what? It's the apps ....
The PE format most decidedly doesn't support fat EXEs. Read the spec, page 12, if you need proof. There's only one field in the file for the architecture type, and that field can only hold one value. There are no currently documented methods for embedding multiple PE sections for multiple architectures into a single file. That isn't to say there isn't some way it could be shoehorned in, but as of yet, there is no way to have a fat EXE on Windows.

Window always tested many architectures
I thought one of the biggest Windows / SQL Server computers in the world was the Nasdaq Tandem (now HP) MIPS computer.

though it seems Microsoft phased it out for other customers:

Re:Work smarter not harder
Definitely - having too many tabs open in Firefox (50 plus) is really a killer, and Chrome is no better. Once the browser is taking over 500 MB, and often well over 1 GB, Windows will start paging out a large chunk of most programs and the whole PC starts slowing down.
On Windows, it really helps to run Process Explorer to find memory hogs and keeping an eye out to make sure that the "commit charge" memory usage is well below 100% of the physical RAM. Process Explorer is the single most important utility on any Windows PC - would be great if Linux had something as good as this. See http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653 for Process Explorer - also lets you pause processes, see the process hierarchy, track I/O volume per process, find open files, etc.

Microsoft will use 508 next
FISMA is only one federal IT requirement. If Microsoft really wants to play hardball, they will point out how much more accessible are their products to people with disabilities who rely upon assistive technology. Section 508 requires the Federal government to procure accessible software when commercially available. Microsoft does a good job with this. Google, only middling (Apps is not even listed).
