Android
Android 5.0? What about helping your current user base? There's still a lot of users stuck with lower versions of Android.
It's been over 300 days since the release of Kit Kat but only 25% of the devices run it.

Re:To be fair...
China is the reason that laws like these exist, knock-offs are a huge business for them.
Wait, you mean to tell me these aren't actual Apple peripherals?

Re:Good luck with those new map service.
Way to full of shit. Dumbass.

Re:This is not possible
Apple's definition of FRAND is (in typical Apple fasion) vastly distorted.
Apple's claim: Samsung wanted more for their patents than any other company has asked Apple in licensing fees. Note: This is NOT a violation of FRAND. Licensing fees for patents are proportional to the value of those patents. Apple said the fees were too much and chose not to pay.
Samsung's claim: Samsung asked Apple for the same amount of money they have asked from other licensees. This is the very definition of the "Non-Discriminatory" part of FRAND.
So, do you have a citation for your claim that "Samsung asked Apple for the same amount of money they have asked from other licensees"?

Re:Good, but a little pointless.
More browser competition on the iPhone is fantastic, but it'd be even better if iOS allowed you to change the default browser so that when you tapped a link in an email it would open in that browser.
Browser Changer will do that.

Re:Foxconn suicides
>>>Are you willing to pay 2-3 times as much for the same product? Are you living in some fantasy world where if Apple's production costs double or triple (actually- they would go up substantially more than that)- they will still charge the same amount of money?
Labor is a small piece of the whole.
According to this: http://modmyi.com/content/5634-how-much-does-cost-build-iphone-4s.html (their facts are debatable but in the absence of real data let's pretend it is accurate) the manufacturing cost is $8 for an iPhone 4s. Pretending that's just labor, yes I would pay MORE than triple for an iPhone that can be built with fair labor.

Here are a bunch of unique weather app designs
Challenge accepted. Weather app designs that don't look like Apple's:
And it keeps going with the unique designs.
All of these look just fine and aren't inconvenient.

Re:Wrong
Darwin != iOS. Please point me to build instructions so I can make a new ROM for an iDevice which does NOT contain the iCal application. Hm?
This isn't endorsed by Apple, so your original point about not being as open still stands, however rebuilding a custom ROM without iCal or any other built in app is fairly trivial to do.
Go get one of the ROM modifying jailbreak tools (Such as RedSn0w)
It reads in an original firmware image from Apple, lets you muck about with it, and writes out a modified version.
The modified version includes the jailbreak, Cydia app, and optionally can include a baseband unlock as well as be pre-loaded with any other 3rd party apps, and built in apps removed. All of this is under the Options / 'Custom Bundle' section of RedSn0w.

Re:without some damn 2 year contract
I have an iPhone - wait for it - without a contract.
I have been reading up on this and have been contemplating doing this to my phone when my contract is up. This is a sample article similar to the ones I have read:
http://modmyi.com/forums/t/754109-iphone-gophone.html
Does this work well? Did you run into any issues?

Re:iPhone 3G? SOL
If you bought your iPhone between Jul 11, 2008 and Jun 7, 2009 (and perhaps after that date) you have an iPhone 3G and you're going to have this bug as long you own the phone.
"'untrackerd' Cydia Tweak stops iOS Location Data Storing."

Re:Kinda figures.
I run it, and after a couple launch daemon removals and some other tweaks, it actually started being more responsive than my previous jailbroken (and launchd-customized) 3.x... There's also a tad more RAM available now than before at about 54MB. Much to my own surprise.

Re:Anyone tried the Android version?
No, it's actually more. I just ran the analyzer and it shows my trip to the SF Bay Area in January. I'm sure, like many other are saying, that it's just a cell-tower-location-caching system. But it'd be nice if stuff like this were auto-purged after a few days.
There's already an App for that in Cydia

Re-think your assumptions
- manage a firewall as powerful as iptables/pf
You can try using pfctl on a jailbroken iPad today.
But isn't it better that a system have zero open ports by default and not NEED iPtables until you start doing things that require it? Remember running any app can only corrupt the dataspace for that app.
- have full control over encryption on all filesystems
The whole filesystem is hardware encrypted, and has been since the 3Gs I believe.
- write an interpreter aka scripting environment
Did you even READ the part where I said the 1% of people who need something more technical can jailbreak? Then you can run local python, perl, bash shells, or whatever.
Or if you don't like to jailbreak for some odd reason you can simply use whatever scripting language pleases you after you buy a $99/year developer license and write any scripting you like into your own apps which you deploy to your own device. But that was what you said you wanted.
So I guess it's time for you to start re-thinking your assumptions.

Actually...
It sounds more like AT&T is targeting users who are using too much data. It seems to me that if you are staying within reasonable data limits and not using up crazy bandwidth you should be fine.

Re:Multitasking complaint is kind of bogus
But the tray is just four apps wide - how can you have clutter in only four items?
My iPhone's tray is six icons wide, you insensitive clod!

Re:Apple
This was actually a fairly well documented fact. I remember they walked the line of people lined up outside the Apple stores and a good number of them really didn't know what they were going to use it for. They just wanted it. There were articles published about this phenomenon at the time (here's the best I can google right now: http://modmyi.com/forums/ipad-news/704633-surveys-100-dont-know-what-ipads.html )

Re:Nice Shapshot!
Good overview of the two technologies.
One point of correction the iPhone has successful run Apache so it can be used as a web server (for what it's worth). Here's a related article -

Oh well, Nokia offers a full feature mobile web server for free, without hacks, weird urls... Full working with a dynamic host name.
http://mymobilesite.net/
That is why Nokia and other Symbian vendors are still being chosen by people like me. Freedom... Evil Apple shows Nokia as some freedom fighter.

Re:Maybe it doesn't make sense to allow tethering
This has never been a limitation, there isn't any mobile company I can find that doesn't have an email to mms gateway
examples:
http://www.modmyi.com/wiki/index.php/MMS_Email_Addresses
http://basicstate.com/htm/page.htmand they can turn right around and MMS your email address

Also available in Cydia for free
The shareware version is also available via Cydia for people with jailbroken phones.
Exact same code, it just only has the first mission instead of all six, but no cost...

Re:What about ...
This is wrong. It is there in the hardware, but Apple has chosen not to interface with that functionality, so yes, it is crippled. Go read some of the back stories on modmyi.com. If you have a jailbroken iPhone.
Using apple keyboard -
