Re:For those to lazy to read the blog
I find Flashblock to be sufficient for my needs. It allows you to turn it completely on or off, and a whitelist of sites. It replaces flash animations with a button which you can select to play the flash animation.

You mean FlashBlock ?

Re:For those to lazy to read the blog
Why not just use Adblocker to block all banners?

Are they really willing?
I'm not RTFA, but it's this bug
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=94035
(Bugzilla dislikes /., just copy the URL in the URL bar of your browser and go)
It's opened in 2001 and not fixed as of now. There are those who argue that a fix is implemented as an extension, which I don't agree to. -
For those to lazy to read the blog
Here's a direct link to the extension.
I'm waiting for the patch/extension that allows me to turn off flash banners like I can turn off images. -

Re:AdAware / AntiSpy (was Re:Not actively deleting
It seems to me that your first point is moot. Personally, I use the AdBlock extension for Firefox (and I'm sure many others do) to block any ads I don't wish to see. Tired of seeing the same old ad? Nope, I'll never see them at all.
The other two points also seem invalid. Maybe if someone completely disabled their cookies they would be true. However, a much smarter approach is to simply set your web browser to delete cookies after a set period of time (every 30 days, for instance), or to delete them upon closing the web browser. This way tracking via cookies only lasts for a set period of time, but most other cookie functions would continue working.
I suppose that people using IE may not have these options available, so for them enabling cookies might be a better idea. Then again, who uses IE anymore? =P -
Re:AdAware / AntiSpy (was Re:Not actively deleting
"I agree, blocking cookies will not make annoying ads go away... That's why I use adblock
However, you may have noticed that even adblock doesn't block Flash. The damn advertisers are using Flash to deliver the obnoxious flashing ads which we all hate and go to extreme lengths to block. They are even using Flash pop ups to get around the java based pop up blockers.
No ad-killing toolbox is complete without Flashblock -
A Better Solution
If you use Firefox, just install the FlashBlock extension. It blocks all Flash items, and replaces them with a nice (non-animated, non-annoying) little icon. If you actually WANT to see the Flash content, one click on the icon will display it.

Apparently this was a bug reported on previously and patched 4/1/05. Not sure it was a really very generous of Secunia to release an exploit so soon.
Wouldn't it have been better to give mozilla/firefox a chance to release a new version? -

Re:What it really does.
Huh? Javascript is only supposed to be able to access clipboardData if it has a ClipboardRead or UniversalClipboardAccess, which a random script won't have. Maybe this is trying to exploit some really old, long-fixed Netscape bug.

Sorry. Nope. Bad e.g., because:- I can get the code for FireFox

yet another pref in the Suite UI buried in FF
Prefetching is an explicit Mozilla Suite UI Preference (advanced/cache) but you have to go to about:config to change it in FF.
We normally disable prefetch on our Mozilla 1.7.6 installs but we don't get a box to tick in FF 1.0.2, even in an "Advanced" submenu.
For those who want to jump up and down and say "if you don't want to change about:config you're not l33t enough to use Firefox" I say:
a) I thought FF wasn't aimed at the l33t
b) I have no problem changing about:config for myself
c) I do have a problem advocating a browser to non-technically comfortable users when options like this (as opposed to beta-options grossly affecting stability) are not in the UI.
If a solely about:config option is debuted in x.y and is still around in x.y+2 it should either be added to the UI or removed entirely and reworked. Since prefetch has been in Mozilla since 1.2 it should be in FF's UI.
But then, as a Suite Supporter I would say that, wouldn't I? -
Re:another embrace and extend
This has been in Mozilla for almost four years and it doesn't violate any standards. look at the "Is link prefetching standards compliant" item in http://www.mozilla.org/projects/netlib/Link_Prefe

use RSS / Live bookmarksIf you have firefox, find the del.icio.us page with links you want, then subscribe using Live Bookmarks:

m arks.htmlI just started using it, and there has been a lot of change in 'del.icio.us/tag/python' but it was pycon last week, so maybe there won't be much change in the list of links. (A static list of python links isn't that exciting.)

Re:Weren't Sun and HP..
- "
- And not a single one of those apps do you use ctrl-L inside a dialog entitled "open", or any dialog for that matter"
Firefox does so. If you turn off the navigation toolbar, and press ctrl-l, you get this.
- "
- When it comes to the widgets, GNOME and GTK+ are the same people"
Nope. GTK+ are the widgets used by the Gnome project. Filing Gnome bugs for problems with GTK+ makes as much sense as blaming XFCE for them. They're closely related, but not the same thing. The Gtk+ developers are a very helpful and friendly group. I'm sure they would accept patches that improved the file chooser.
I don't think you'll have any luck trying to get the URI bar put into the widget, but the autocomplete in the ctrl-l dialog should select files as well, not just the directory containing them.
ctrl-l works well though, there's no need to change anything, except the documentation. A nice handy keyboard shortcuts reference would go a long way. Firefox has a nice one. -

Bandwidth
You could always try arguing that BitTorrent saves campus bandwidth for popular downloads like Fedora Core, Knoppix, and Firefox.
Two of these trackers are actually run by universitites..! -
SecurePassword Generator - Firefox Extension
I got the SecurePassword Generator plugin installed. You can specify all sorts of options as far as restricting password generation to punctuation, numerics, case sensitivity, even only generating passwords on either side of the keyboard so you can type it with one hand (if the other one is handy). Plus, you can specify how similar the passwords are to regular words making remembering them easier for those people that aren't interested in remembering truly random characters.

Minimo
It occurs to me that with both 802.11b and an awesome screen, the PSP would be an really great platform for the Minimo project.
Maybe it's time for the Minimo developers to go down to Best Buy and dip into that Mozilla Foundation money (no extended service contracts though).

Re:Ugh, no zip builds
There were no checkins on the 1.7 branch from March 17 through March 21. Any nightly build produced between those dates should be essentially the same as the official release.

Re:Cool
And this is exactly one of the big reasons many dislike the discontinuation of the Mozilla Suite.
It hasn't been discontinued. In the interview with Mitchell Baker she mentioned that the Mozilla Foundation will provide Mozilla 1.7.x maintenance and security releases for the next two years, and possibly longer depending on how many users it has then. The Mozilla Foundation handed off the task of testing and building releases beyond Mozilla 1.7.x to the Seamonkey group.
