Re:American Priate Party?
Is there an American Pirate Party and can anyone provide a link?
Arrrh! America's love for pirates be so big, no mere "party" can contain it! We have:
Talk Like a Pirate Day. Sure it's now "international", but it started with pirate-loving Americans!
Bus Pirates. Pirates, Robots, Mass Transit - ONLY IN AMERICA!
Spongebob Squarepants - which regularly features a PIRATE GHOST!
There have even been some obscure art-house movies recently about Pirates and the Gulf of Mexico or something...

Re:What about
It's true. I saw this documentary on Nickelodeon called Penguins of Madagascar and, man, they looked tough! We're talking crazy commando skills, unwavering loyalty, the ability to talk to zoo animals... it was chilling!
-
It's all Sponge Bob's fault!
-
Re:Classic Misdirection
I saw the Documentaries titled "Madagascar" and I know for a fact that Penguins are very elusive and deceptive creatures. We need to keep an eye on them at all costs, lest we fall into their trap for world domination.
We've actually started crowd-sourcing that operation to Nickelodean. It's a clever Government/Private Industry initiative.

Re:Must... stop... fibbing
poems sound like they're being spoken by a superhero through gritted teeth.
So true. Unfortunately for me, owing to my two young girls, the only superhero that came to mind for me while reading that poem was The Crimson Chin, as voiced by Jay Leno.
Did someone say... JUSTICE?! -
Re:Once again, why?
Here in the U.S. we have age limits and certain guidelines to follow when buying/selling pornography. Typically, movies/videos are located on the lower shelf behind the counter or in a separate room where access is monitored or a pornography store. As far as I know, you have to be 18 years of age or more to buy it as well. I don't see anything wrong with selling pornography this way and I agree with it. As a parent, I don't want pornography readily available to my children. Whether you want to believe it or not, pornography is a lot easier to obtain off the internet than anywhere else.
Take for example the website http://www.nick.com/ (Nickelodeon). Say your child is typing in the web address and accidentally types in http://www.dick.com/ because of a typo. They have just went to a website that is not suitable for a child. Having the website http://www.dick.xxx/ is more suitable under this scenario. I can filter the website/domain as not suitable at the fwl/rtr level.
I've never been to Europe and observed the practice of selling porn there, but I don't see how this would kill the porn industry if all pornographic content was placed in its own domain. We do the same thing here in the states through normal retail outlets and I don't hear the porn industry complaining about that.
Am I judging pornography? Yes I am. I like it just like the next guy, but I don't think it is suitable for my 5 year old and 7 year old. I think there definately has to be a change made and right now having .xxx is the only solution I see so far. -

This is some random commentary to make sure that my post has enough characters per line on average to get by the lameness filter. Just a few more words should do it. Then I will be over the limit. Maybe you would like to hear a bit about my projects: Attesoro - A internationalization editor for Java programs. Coinmill - A currency conversion website with many currencies, and features such as abilty to parse English sentences asking for currency conversion. Java Utilities - Utilities for common task in the Java programming language such as parsing CSV files and string manipulation.

Re:I have a couple other questions to add...Pirate.
Pirates have been cooler than ninjas ever since The Spongebob Movie came out.
Wait. Check that. Ok. Maybe not... cool is in the eyepatch of the beholder?

Re:Weekly Reader
From what I remember in reading the Weekly Reader in a very "Red State" the reader most likely has a larger conservative base. While another kids vote probably has larger liberal base.
I think nearly all predictors and polls will be tossed out this year. With polls moving 10-20% by weekly, unprecedented new registrants, questionable electronic voting machines, armies of lawyers already prepped, and even our sworn enemy, that the incumbent has said that he wanted "Dead or Alive", and the other saying that "He will hunt down and kill", Osama Bin Laden is even telling us to get out and vote.
This going to hell of a crazy election, and I have a feeling that it won't be over until well into next year. -
meh
meh, I won't be impressed until they harness this technology to create a real-life Catdog!

Re:Names...
Would that be any relation to the Dogcow?
Actually, no. It is a reference to the Nickelodeon animated show about a creature that is half dog half cat -- the front ends of both animals joined at the mid section and pointing in opposite directions. Read more about it here. But the dogcow would have been much more inline with the Mac culture; howver, it is not a cat reference.
It struck me that OS X on the x86 (would that be OSx86 ??) would be an odd combination and should have an appropriately odd mascot -- catdog! -

TV Channels with web presence
I don't know much about Disney.com's Toon Town, but my little siblings are on that frequently.
I also agree that Nick Jr, or Nick/Nickelodeon is popular too for the pre/low-teen crowd. -
Re:don't forget, it's even waterproof!
We have to hear it twice because I know I'll definitely be using my cellphone underwater.
Yeah, but all the Slashdot readers at Bikini Bottom might like that feature. After all, they are the secret power behind Slashdot. :) -
Re:Macromedia
Here at nickelodeon we still author and produce content in Flash 5 to ensure maximum compatibility, both cross-platform and for those with un-updated browsers. Its amazing how many people buy a PC and never bother upgrading any software, drivers, etc, until they buy another PC
:)
We keep track of Flash 6(MX) adoption rates across the board and won't switch development until it is supported by a very large percentage of visitors (90-95% or so, not entirely sure.. I'm an artist, not the techdev people). So for the sites of major players it (hopefully) won't be a problem, as they tend to lag behind a bit to allow people to catch up. We (and other sites) also offer alternate content for people without Flah, you can get to our site and do/see many things. However, since our content is comprised mostly of animation and games, Flash really is a must-have for kids. ^nA -
Cartoon network...
I went as SpongeBob last year and got a good response (it only took me 18 hours to paint a cardboard box to look like him), so I would like to go as another cartoon character this year. My g/f is going as Bubbles, which fits her personality perfectly (and voice, and hair color). I think I'll probably go as Dexter. The geekness would fit me perfectly.

Tell Nick what you think!
For those of you to lazy to write a real letter try this:http://www.nick.com/blab/write_nick/index.jh
t ml. It is a web-based comment submission form from nick.com. If possible, however, write with real paper, neatly typed and signed. (Primary tablet and crayon would also be good, but make sure, if you do sign it "love" instead of sincerly hehe) -
Yayyyyyyy!
(No GIR, that's a bad thing...)
Heard about this a while ago...
If you're pissed off, check out this online petition and send lots of e-mails to the execs at Nickelodeon.
The one nice thing about this, though, is that now Jhonen can concentrate on possibly releasing a second series of Johnny the Homicidal Maniac. Ooooooo.... It almost makes me go head-explodey just thinking about it. =)
