Re:Wonder if this is one of the reasons?
I took the port number out of the url and it worked for me: http://boycottnovell.com.nyud.net/2009/01/30/microsoft-intel-anti-linux/.
Worth a read...

Nokia did not purchasee Trolltech for reselling Qt
Nokia never insisted anything of the sort.
While they may have opposed the HTML 5 standard, their opposition is based upon their relationship with Webkit (recall that Nokia is one of the big players backing Webkit
... in addition to the fact that Qt now bundles a derivative of it). When Nokia purchased Trolltech, they promised not to change much. That's the opposite of what you just claimed. Those of us heavily entrenched in the Qt world knew that there was likely to be a shift in priorities
... the profitability of Trolltech was measured in digits that were not significant to a massive company like Nokia. They bought Trolltech for the IP rights on the phone operating system Qtopia (now Qt Extended) because it enabled them to get back into the smartphone game (which they've been losing to Apple, RIM, and soon Google). The purchase was not for direct Qt profitability.
Disclaimer: I work for the biggest Qt shop in North America, www.ics.com (and we're already under heavy load, so that link is cached).

Re:No Archive.org either
I thought Coral Cache might work, but the only thing cached right now is the "out of business" message. If anyone has any actual links to content they could try Coral Cache themselves.
I'm a bit dumbfounded at the completeness of the stupidity. Let's see...
1. Use RAID mirroring as a backup solution? Check!
2. Don't make a copy of your data files anywhere else, ever? Check!
3. Actively prohibit public, free site mirrors from getting to your sacred content? Check!
4. Practice naked fire juggling in front of server farm? Wouldn't be surprised. -

Coral cache has it: http://www.nzgames.com.nyud.net/forums/showthread.php?t=81672
Pretty fast mirror, actually.

Re:So, the obvious question

(because I couldn't get the site to load)Usually the cooler a one-off tech gadget looks, the harder it is to mass produce.
OTOH, MS could probably charge one heck of a premium for a portable xbox experience. -

Best ones + direct links
Some of the best ones, with direct links to the mp3s (on Coral Cache):
- toshiba_60gb_loud_drilling.mp3 By FAR the best one of the bunch. Sounds like it's alive and in pain.
- maxtor_melody.mp3 and maxtor_melody2.mp3 Interesting tones.
- maxtor_calypso_constant_clicking.mp3 You don't want to hear this.

Re:Annoying
Why don't the editors wrap all the urls in summaries by default with coral cache?
Fortunately, the page is already there - http://www.justblair.co.uk.nyud.net/hdsilence.html

Re:Please! No more direct links to Mozilla FTP!
Yeah, it's bad etiquette. Use Coral Cache instead, the downloads are coralized and the coral cache can provide

I'm getting a 500 status connecting to the original, but it seems that Coral CDN has a decent cache.

Re:What about a game with a programming mini-game?
I used to write tanks for Omega.
Not sure if these are the working versions of my tanks (haven't played it in a while):
1v1 or "free for all" tank:
http://nearly.mine.nu.nyud.net/lyeoh/pubfiles/omega/baz31.zipteam tank:
http://nearly.mine.nu.nyud.net/lyeoh/pubfiles/omega/banzai.zipThere are better tactics in terms of winning, but they might be a bit more boring.

TFA is effing messed up
From the article the playing field is 30 x 30 mm. From the image with the article, the playing field is 1.5 x 2.5 mm. From the NIST PR, " These abilities are tested in three events: a two-millimeter dash in which each nanobot seeks the best time for a goal-to-goal sprint across the playing field; a slalom drill where the path between goals is blocked by "defenders" (polymer posts) and a ball handling drill that requires robots to âoedribbleâ as many âoenanoballsâ (microdisks with the diameter of a human hair) as possible into the goal within a 3-minute period."
A "2 mm sprint" indicates that the picture is correct, and the text in the article is messed up.

Relevant discussion about this in legal terms. Actually quite readable. Note - the laws have been greatly strengthened by recent laws as well. Note how Alaska has stricter laws about this as well than most other states. -

You could always use the CDN version.

Slashdotted; check the Coral Cache
The site's either been Slashdotted, or the Secret Service has had the people who run it killed. In either case, you can see the article via the Coral Cache if you want.

Re:SUN used to do it.
Someone guy unpotted a Votrax module and refurbished the damaged components so that it still worked afterwards and he could reverse-engineer it. It's interesting and has lots of pictures of before and after. The thing starts out as a a big block of epoxy and ends up a normal-looking circuit board.
