Is she still a racist to Oliver Willis?
Indeed, a pattern has emerged some time ago. Boy, did we dodge a bullet.
âoe[W]orking, hard-working Americans, white Americansâ. She really said that. Wow.
Congratulations, Hillary Clinton, you win the prize for the first Democratic Bigot Eruption since Iâ(TM)ve been keeping track of this. Even professional haters like Pat Buchanan and his ilk arenâ(TM)t so balls-out about racism.

Re:depends on the feed
Those are my thoughts exactly. Only one of the ~40 feeds that I subscribe to has ads in its feeds but they're stuck at the end of full-text messages and are frequently related to the subject matter (like an Amazon referral for a book mentioned in the post). I'd much rather have a short Google AdWords ad at the bottom of a post and get the full text than have to go visit a web page. It saves me time and it feels more SFW (although I'm sure that's just wishful thinking).
The full-text feed with ads bothers me a lot less than the feeds that cut off after X number of words, even if it's in the middle of a sentence. I HATE those. Summaries are tolerable, if annoying - sentence fragments are not. -
Like Kryptonite to Stupid
You gotta love Oliver Willis and for that matter all of the Media Matters people.
A little too extreme at times, but overall a very down-to-earth and likable guy.
If you want to make them mad, you could say the people over at metafilter (currently down) make for a good political blog. (snicker) -
Libertarians can be idiots too
The part about how you can be left wing and a libertarian was fascinating. A friend of mine listens to a talk radio show in Boston by Jay Severin (96.9), which claims to be libertarian. I have listened several times. Last week, Severin said he doesn't want to have to vote for Bush. He wishes he could vote for Pat Robertson... Looking for more info on the web, I read that that Severin said that all muslims should be killed. Or that he was for the war, against the peace, Iraqis don't deserve a better system and we shouldn't be giving it to them. So it's very interesting that liberarians can be left or right wing. Or just plain idiots like Jay Severin.

Re:Whats good for the goose...
There are laws against such activities. But as long as a bunch of corrupt, self-serving, unconstitutional cowards are in charge, no real action against white-collar crimes will ever be taken.
Or, to put it differently: As long as white-collar criminals are in charge, white-collar crimes will be tolerated.
What I don't understand is why ordinary people tolerate and defend Bush's actions. After all, it is you and I who pay the bill at the end of the day. -
Fictional Blog
I have a fictional blog of my own, starring the one and only Britney Spears...

Good Argument For An Open Box
The (valid) concerns some are posting on how Tivo could react to this seem to make the idea of an "open source" PVR box (with some sort of dialup for scheduling data) even more palatable.

What?
More than ever, games are cross console. Aside from "house" staples like Mario and Final Fantasy. Games tend to come out on Nintendo/Sony/Sega systems simulatenously. Look at EA!

No, just evidence of a bloated and poorly run company. See www.campchaos.com for how to do this sector right...

Go Cable
As much as I hate the cable monopolies, they've got their act much more together than the DSL ninnies. By coincidence I ended up with DSL from Pacbell and Cable from @Home/Adelphia simultaneously. What a world of difference. DSL was sluggish with speed bursts and the service terrible. Cable was up and running in a couple hours, no problem with speed of about 1.5 for a year now....

While I don't doubt Packer loyalty, they have one of the smallest stadiums in the league and rank at best in the middle of the league in revenue.

True Human Capital
I've thought of this, with an application to individuals. I call it True Human Capital, where you invest directly in people with hope of a future return. In theory you could create a "mutual fund" for an open source project and contribute to the people involved that way. Would it work? I'm not sure.

Re:USA's part of WWII
America played as big a role as any other European country in winning the war, casualties be damned. We're not stopping them from making movies about their heroes.
Like it or not, America was a HUGE part of winning WW2 - whether Europe likes to admit it or not.

Re:Umm... I'm a little mistified...
We didn't know the Nazi's were killing the Jews.
America was not the global superpower we are now and was recovering from a depression. War was the last thing American people wanted.

Re:What's the big deal?
You had me going there until you said Superman wasn't a good movie. What brand of crack are you smoking? It is the perfect comic movie. Perfect.
But I'm talking about LOTR the MOVIE, not the book. The MOVIE looks like crap.

Re:What's the big deal?
So a simple dissent is a troll? I'm asking an actual question.
I know a lot of you love the books, but put that aside and look at the movie. It looks hokey. Elijah Wood? Come on. I really cannot understand why the "geek/nerd" community is jonesing for this movie so hard? Matrix 2, Spider-Man I can understand. But why this?

Re:Installation is a big hurdle
The UI/user experience needs a lot of help. On windows, it should load as an activex-type control- the more seamless the better. And if things could be handled by the browser, as if there were no Swarmcast component - I think this has the potential to kick butt...

PARENTS ducking responsibility
The school had a rule, the kid broke it. Parents are responsible for teaching their kids not to break rules - law. Now that their son is dead, they still won't accept responsibility and pass it on to the school district. People need to take responsibility for their actions...

Content Attention Breakdown
I've recently written a breakdown of a proposal for how much time people "pay" advertisers, and how a similar exchange could be worked out, exchanging attention for web enjoyment...

The Detainees
Most of the media focus has been on these "24 poor detainees" and their families boo-hooing that Bush should just say "sorry" so the "boys can come home".
Gimme a break.
They're soldiers damn it! Unlike anyone else in society they should know the very real risks involved in their profession. They should be prepared to sit in China for a year (their accomodations are as nice as a Motel 6 at least) and wait it out. It's what they do.
I hate GWBush more than I can express, but I support him 110% in this one.

Maybe they shouldn't have had children in the first place. It's not the role of government to raise your kids, there are much better wastes for my tax dollars out there.

One Application
The company I'm the cofounder of, Humancasting is developing a peer to peer system where individuals can produce high quality content and disemminate it to a large audience with a lot less concern for things like bandwith, etc. that is straining the current flock of users.

I love your characterization of retraining as "trivial". What do you think is harder - someone using a flawed but well known Windows interface, or trying to learn Gnome/KDE - which hasn't matured yet?

Comics, too
Same thing happened when all the holo-foil, super great covers came to comics and the specualtors grabbed those "all-new" X-Men #1 by Jim Lee, that are now in the 5c bin at your local comic store (if there's still one left)...

Perhaps there needs to be some sort of concerted effort to communicate the concept of micropayments (Amazon,Paypal,etc.). The sites looking to this model could band together - much like what happened vs the CDA, etc.

Damned if they do...
Wait, let me guess:
1. They open up - "see, they're trying to sucker us in, to extinguish us"
2. They keep things closed - "see, they're trying to tie us in to one platform"
Will you guys ever ne happy with what they do? They're trying to run a business, not a community.
