Ok, so I was correct on WSUS... apk
See subject & for SOME reason, the "*" didn't paste from those 2 links (see the Windows Help file yourself for those errmsg #'s I posted to verify it).
APK
P.S.=> The ONLY THING that "threw me" was the 2nd one I posted, seemingly stating you can redirect Windows Update Servers via hosts too though! That contradicts what I said & heard:
E.G. - I've seen/heard tell -> http://www.pcreview.co.uk/thre... on Windows "hardcoding" the Windows Update Servers & that "seconded my motion"(not the BEST 'most reliable' source, far from the worst too though... but there was others I've seen in the past, from 'better sources' (like MS for example), OR I WOULD NOT HAVE SAID IT)... apk

Tenebrousedge ran... apk
Right after this -> http://tech.slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=3239985&cid=41933709 (where he could NOT show that AdBlock could do ALL of what custom hosts can as I said it couldn't, & he then tried some "b.s." that I turned aside with ease, point-by-point of his "so-called 'points'", each time...).
* HOWEVER, my "favorite" thusfar from this exchange?
Here -> http://tech.slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=3239985&cid=41934655
(As there is NOTHING quite like making a troll "eat his words" after I quote his falsehoods spouted, letting others in his
/. peers speak for me... putting his b.s. away, easily - especially after he called me ALL types of names, many with the meaning 'retarded' etc./et al!)---
"You are being professionally had here by a paid industry/gov shill" - by Anonymous Coward on Friday November 09, @02:47PM (#41934881)
Funny how he began calling me NAMES though, lol, in typical trolling OFF-TOPIC illogical ad hominem attack style (the last resort of trolls)!
Then, when I challenged him to show he'd done MORE, better, & EARLIER than I have in the art & science of computing (from a partial list of my favs only mind you, done while he was STILL IN DIAPERS I bet)?
He ran then too, nothing to show for himself...
(No, he's no "professional" by any means, or he would have been able to DUST my tiny partial list imo)...

"FF+AB can be conveniently "outlawed" anytime anywhere, no so much with ancient and therefore inevitable hosts file." - by Anonymous Coward on Friday November 09, @02:47PM (#41934881)
Interesting "POV" on that one, doubt it would happen, but it IS possible (anything is)... hmmm! Too bad tenebrousedge isn't around anymore to address it since he ran.
APK
P.S.=> I didn't get to unload the "FINAL TOUCH" of mine on him either (which predates this exchange by YEARS, & my words in it that dust him):
---
"(It's a GOOD idea to layer in the usage of BOTH browser addons for security like adblock, &/or NoScript (especially this one, as it covers what HOSTS files can't in javascript which is the main deliverer of MOST attacks online & SECUNIA.COM can verify this for anyone really by looking @ the past few years of attacks nowadays), for the concept of "layered security")"
From YEARS ago (late 2007 is when I re-authored it, & it also has quotes on filtering DNS servers in it as well!)

* Where that PROVES I use adblock too (as well as external FILTERING vs. malware/phishing/spamming etc. DNS servers as well, such as OpenDNS, NortonDNS, ScrubIT DNS, & Comodo DNS too, external to my home setup!)
Showing I actually USE & RECOMMEND Adblock, but, I was out to show adblock couldn't do ALL of what hosts can, & that DNS servers with their issues can be COMPLIMENTED by hosts, but dns servers also eat more CPU cycles, RAM, & other forms of I/O, thus electricity too, & add complexity too...
( AND, for what in the latter especially? Doing what custom hosts can??)...

Tenebrousedge took off before I could FINISH him
He left already - too bad: I didn't unload the FINAL TOUCH on him from this page & my security guide for Windows quote in it:
"(It's a GOOD idea to layer in the usage of BOTH browser addons for security like adblock, &/or NoScript (especially this one, as it covers what HOSTS files can't in javascript which is the main deliverer of MOST attacks online & SECUNIA.COM can verify this for anyone really by looking @ the past few years of attacks nowadays), for the concept of "layered security")"

P.S.=> My main point here was to show I use ALL of what is possible almost in terms of the BEST THING WE HAVE GOING IN SECURITY TODAY:
The concept of "layered-security"/"defense-in-depth", which that statement above of mine I quoted from it, as well as the ENTIRE GUIDE ITSELF, proves with ease...
He took off though -> http://tech.slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=3239985&cid=41932659 before I could "spring that 'final touch'" on him... oh well! Another time...

Addendum: As to what Mr. Hyponnen said?
I was onto THAT, years ago (and before that too): It's PROS out there "hacking/cracking" into you, not just "kids having fun" etc./et al:
"Well, nowadays, they're not just after "wrecking your rig" etc. et al, they're after YOU... mainly your cash, or credit, etc. et al (it's now a "money game" man, the serious kind, really)."
* Fact is, I was "at this game" (computer security) LONG BEFORE there really WAS a "formal industry" in it... & did my 1st collegiate academia presentation on it, as far back as 1984
(Some proof's below in my p.s. on a few levels in fact!)
APK
P.S.=> SO, as I said above: Things I personally have done around the arena of computer security on a PC?
The guide I quoted from above is featured ALL OVER THE PLACE online & it actually works (here's some testimonials from a user that applied it TO THE LETTER for himself, friends, family, & even paid customers):
To "immunize" a Windows system, I effectively use the principles in "layered security" possibles!
http://www.bing.com/search?q=%22HOW+TO+SECURE+Windows+2000%2FXP%22&go=&form=QBRE
I.E./E.G.-> I have done so since 1997-1998 with the most viewed, highly rated guide online for Windows security there really is which came from the fact I also created the 1st guide for securing Windows, highly rated @ NEOWIN (as far back as 1998-2001) here:
http://www.neowin.net/news/apk-a-to-z-internet-speedup--security-text
& from as far back as 1997 -> http://web.archive.org/web/20020205091023/www.ntcompatible.com/article1.shtml which Neowin above picked up on & rated very highly.
That has evolved more currently, into the MOST viewed & highly rated one there is for years now since 2008 online in the 1st URL link above...
Which has well over 500,000++ views online (actually MORE, but 1 site with 75,000 views of it went offline/out-of-business) & it's been made either:
---
1.) An Essential Guide
2.) 5-5 star rated
3.) A "sticky-pinned" thread
4.) Most viewed in the category it's in (usually security)
5.) Got me PAID by winning a contest @ PCPitStop (quite unexpectedly - I was only posting it for the good of all, & yes, "the Lord works in mysterious ways", it even got me PAID -> http://techtalk.pcpitstop.com/2007/09/04/pc-pitstop-winners/ (see January 2008))---
Across 15-20 or so sites I posted it on back in 2008... & here is the IMPORTANT part, in some sample testimonials to the "layered security" methodology efficacy:

Re:I supplement custom hosts files w/ better DNS t
When working on a network on the job, I tend to go with whatever a network admin has "in house" for the EXACT reasons you noted in fact: Messing up mail - specifically Active Directory related stuff regarding Outlook (full outlook that is, the part of Office)!
I had "issues" with that myself, @ work, due to AD dependencies on DNS, & perhaps I ought to note that in that reply you just replied to (my initial one on DNS servers) next time I use it!
Plus, as to YOUR point? Well... It's been one of mine before too (but I overlooked it here)!
E.G. -> I've noted it online before -> http://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/secure-windows-2000-xp-server-2003-and-even-vista-make-fun-do-t3511888p2.html
Look for this quote on that page as my proof to you of this much -> "DO NOT USE THIS WITH A HOME or BUSINESS LAN THAT HAS ActiveDirectory going (because, for example - it will mess up things like FULL Outlook binding to EXCHANGE SERVER for instance, because of INTERNAL DNS SERVER dependencies AD has (ActiveDirectory is HEAVILY dependent on DNS resolutions is why)"
* Thus, I'll have to amend the post you replied to fro that... thanks!
(I have it saved in a "cut & paste" reply on things "malware", DNS related, SO, I'll have to add in this about MAIL MX records + Active Directory related stuff I noted above... )

P.S.=> Thanks for that much... LOL, man!

Re:Almost Yes.
The great thing about VOIP is it doesn't matter. You can install and run both clients at the same time and then just make sure you are visible in Jitsi as much as possible whilst being visible very rarely in Skype, and then only when you want something (sit there invisible, but turn on notifications so you see when friends without Jitsi come on line). From time to time suggest to people that it would be easier to get you if they had Jitsi. When you meet people show them how to set up Jitsi (or whichever other client you prefer) to work better than Skype.
No need to get political. The simple phrase "I want to have something I can rely on; I don't trust Microsoft not to mess me about later; remember how they killed off KIN / Windows Mobile 6 / Windows Mobile 7 / the desktop PC / efficient working in Office / flight simulator / plays for sure / etc. etc.". Preferably choose a Microsoft betrayal that cost you personally There are so many simple technical betrayals by Microsoft that you can start with those before going into the political. Even there, you should start with things like "because Microsoft chooses to support Chinese censorship" which are simple and clear to understand.

U FAIL AGAIN (multiple times, lol)
U FAIL #1: - I've been cutting OFF services I don't need since oh, 1994-1995 on Windows-NT based OS, for starters... & you say I haven't apparently (pure comedy GOLD):
"'ll tell you: Having programs or services running that are not necessary, have no function, and are not used. Every one is a potential security hole waiting to happen." - by cbiltcliffe (186293) on Thursday July 14, @06:43AM (#36760610) Homepage
So much for THAT statement from you, & the funniest part is, I can prove it with the ORIGINAL older model of my security guide too, @ Neowin (where it was picked up on in 2000-2001 no less) -> http://www.neowin.net/news/apk-a-to-z-internet-speedup--security-text
AND I even noted why I do it, verbatim, here in another copy of the more current guide (same as the ones you saw):
"services cutoffs for speed + security in DETAIL" - by APK
On that very page link url above... lol!
Fact is - Originally, I cut off services I don't need for SPEED though (to not consume RAM, CPU time, &/or other forms of I-O needlessly, but also later for security on the grounds you stated too (double BONUS)).
In fact?
Go over to the TechPowerUp forums also - while doing speed tests & benchmarks there, ScienceMark & WinTune tests?
Well - I showed their forums members how to get another 20%++ out of their scores BY CUTTING OFF SERVICES in our benchmark tests using ScienceMark &/or WinTune... in turn, they showed me how to FULLY OverClock AMD systems (I already knew how to do Intel ones).
---
U FAIL #2: - Why do you *THINK* I put "remote registry" running as a LocalService for? It can still function that way, but not as a SECURITY RISK anymore (I cut it off totally in fact, set disabled actually, but if it were to be activated again by some interloper malware, it'd be SAFE(r) because it was set as "LocalService" logon entity - "get it"?):
"Anyway, in this section, you say you've personally tested all these services, and know they run fine under the different account. One you list for running under LocalService is the Remote Registry service. I can guarantee you that this service does not run properly under LocalService. Sure, it will run, but its entire functionality is nullified, because the whole point of the service is to provide remote access to the registry in domain/remote admin situations, and the LocalService account has no network privileges" - by cbiltcliffe (186293) on Thursday July 14, @06:43AM (#36760610) Homepage
Hence, my point above, lol... SO, that all "said & aside": WHAT WAS YOUR "so-called POINT"?
---
"Of course not. You're not worth the effort, as you're an ineffectual, intellectually deficient waste of skin." - by cbiltcliffe (186293) on Thursday July 14, @06:43AM (#36760610) Homepage
LMAO - post the wrong link & tell another LIE here? Of course... that's just what you do!

You still haven't addressed the issue of why your app is so slow. Blaming the GUI doesn't cut it - millions of applications have GUIs and many are blistering quick. Is it your precious Delphi that's the problem? You've previously made great claims of Delphi's superior text processing performance, so that can't be it:
http://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/secure-windows-2000-xp-server-2003-and-even-vista-make-fun-do-t3511888p5.html
"It was built in the MOST efficient & fastest code combination I know of (Borland Delphi 7.x, Win32 API, & Inline Assembler code)"You can't address the issue, because you lack the skills to do so. Your application's performance is terrible and you have no idea how to fix it. I have made no claims about my programming prowess but it's plain to see that despite your occasional mentions in historical IT press and your laughable 'suggestion' credit in a defrag program, you're just not very good at software development.
I'm sure you will copy-paste your list of magazine mentions again, and tell us all how you made a screensaver that one time, but the fact remains that you're unable to write a simple program to process a few MB of text in a reasonable time. That's pretty sad.

"I am Bulgarian... I read his self-proclaimed security researches and I find nothing interesting in them." - by Anonymous Coward on Friday January 14, @10:44PM (#34886754)
Then you didn't read them closely, or you didn't know HOW to apply the material he was putting out!
E.G.-> His articles on malware or malscripted sites were EXTREMELY USEFUL to myself & others!
For myself, his articles' material was great for my populating a custom HOSTS file with blocked off entries vs. known bad sites/servers his articles put data out for, & I used it, for fortifying my systems' HOSTS file vs. said known bad sites &/or servers his articles listed for 3++ yrs. online here:
I.E.-> It was so good, that I even listed that for others to use in a security guide I did for users of Microsoft's Windows Operating systems, here:

Then you must not have been working with them from a SECURITY PERSPECTIVE then, because Mr. Danchev's site was a good source for data on various botnets, &/or known bad host/domain names, which is useful not only in HOSTS files as I used said data for, but also for DNS Block Lists &/or Firewall rules tables!

Per my subject-line above: I used his page @ ZDNet for that ENTIRE 3 yrs. in populating a custom HOSTS file here vs. known bad sites/servers:
As proof of that statement, I even cited that page as one of my MAIN sources for that type of data, here:
http://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/thread-3511888-8.php
In my last post of a security guide I did years ago for PC users of Microsoft Windows Operating Systems, which was about how & why to use custom HOSTS files for defense against malware etc..
One day, the article series was no longer updating & I figured:
"Ok, the guy has done this for the last 3 yrs. now, & either his contract is up, or he's onto other things... too bad - was a great article series & VERY informative!"
Was all, from MY end of things as one of the readers of his articles' series on malware. I guess that's not all there was to that... "mystery solved" from MY end @ least - but not on his end...
In any event - He did a 1st class job of an article series on malware making sites/sites that "bushwhack" users, & what you could do about them (one was is my method of placing the article data on hosts/domain names of known bad sites/servers into a custom HOSTS file (to wall off known bad sites &/or servers from infecting you)).

Nobody has to PAY for it: CIS Tool, or MBSA, are 100% free, and they work (both are based on "industry best practices" for "layered security", & CIS Tool is also multi-platform (runs on Windows, Solaris, Linux, and BSD variants)).
Take 1-2 hours of your time and secure yourself with free reliable and highly respected/noted tools as your guides that use the concept of layered security practices.
Do it yourself, & for years to decades of uninfested/uninfected uptime.

From that other forums here http://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?s=0c20bd72321b9c96c7a66c25b68b16a6&p=13958812#post13958812 clone53421? We're pretty sure it is you. You're not fooling anyone with your anonymous coward replies either. You had best hope that the other forums where you stalked APK to don't give up your IP address, because that will mean APK can go to your ISP and have you reported for definite online stalking across forums to forums also (and you replying as AC here http://slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=1639038&cid=32085082 was not very intelligent either)

Clone's ISP will probably be notified is my guess

clone53421 now replying as AC to "fool us"? lol!
Says it all right there. Pretty pitiful clone53421, and all because you badly lost a debate here on
/., where you libeled me repeatedly as well with information from sources who tried the same in Jeremy Reimer and Jay Little (who only got caught email harassing me by their ISPs, had their websites with death threats & impersonations of myself removed in part or their entirely (3 of them no less, 3 times) by their hosting providers, and had law enforcement in their local areas notified on them both, due to such "geek angst based" death threats).APK
P.S.=> clone53421 - Seek help for your condition, please. However, I am not sure if there is a 'cure' or treatment for 'geek angst', lol...
Do you think you're fooling anybody replying as AC now clone53421? Your now posting as AC is now caught too clone53421 http://slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=1639038&cid=32085082 where you admitted to posting as clone53421 on another forums to troll and stalk me, and in your reply in the url above you give that away clearly...
NOW: As far as my "rep" in this art & science? Ok, here is a tiny sampling of some of the things I've done that did pretty ok over time (have you, or tomhudson, clone53421, or squiggleslash done the same, or more, in the computer sciences I wonder?):
Windows NT Magazine (now Windows IT Pro) April 1997 "BACK OFFICE PERFORMANCE" issue, page 61
(&, for work done for EEC Systems/SuperSpeed.com on PAID CONTRACT (writing portions of their SuperCache program increasing its performance by up to 40% via my work) albeit, for their SuperDisk & HOW TO APPLY IT, took them to a finalist position @ MS Tech Ed, two years in a row 2000-2002, in its HARDEST CATEGORY: SQLServer Performance Enhancement).
WINDOWS MAGAZINE, 1997, "Top Freeware & Shareware of the Year" issue page 210, #1/first entry in fact (my work is there)
PC-WELT FEB 1998 - page 84, again, my work is featured there
WINDOWS MAGAZINE, WINTER 1998 - page 92, insert section, MUST HAVE WARES, my work is again, there
PC-WELT FEB 1999 - page 83, again, my work is featured there
CHIP Magazine 7/99 - page 100, my work is there
GERMAN PC BOOK, Data Becker publisher "PC Aufrusten und Repairen" 2000, where my work is contained in it
HOT SHAREWARE Numero 46 issue, pg. 54 (PC ware mag from Spain), 2001 my work is there, first one featured, yet again!
Also, a British PC Mag in 2002 for many utilities I wrote, saw it @ BORDERS BOOKS but didn't buy it... by that point, I had moved onto other areas in this field besides coding only...
Lastly, being paid for an article that made me money over @ PCPitstop in 2008 for writing up a guide that has people showing NO VIRUSES/SPYWARES & other screwups, via following its point, such as THRONKA sees here -> http://www.xtremepccentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=ee926d913b81bf6d63c3c7372fd2a24c&t=28430&page=3
----
What do I have to say about that much above? I can't say it any better, than this was stated already (from the greatest book of all time, the "tech manual for life" imo):
"But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I labored more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me." - Corinthians Chapter 10, Verse 10
(And, because I got LUCKY to have been exposed to some really GREAT classmates, professors, & colleagues on the job over time as well)... apk

clone53421 now posting as AC to troll others?
"Thanks for advertising that link. It's certainly nothing I'm ashamed of posting." - by Anonymous Coward
on Tuesday May 04, @09:44AM (#32084204)Funny. clone53421 admits to posting that stalking post at another forums which is listed as clone53421 as the poster, http://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?s=0c20bd72321b9c96c7a66c25b68b16a6&p=13958812#post13958812 and yet he admits here he did it, albeit as an AC reply. You only busted yourself clone53421, in using ac replies to make it seem as if others are 'supporting you'. You are not too smart, are you? See subject and his reply where he admits to posting on another forums to troll and stalk someone that clearly got the best of he in a technical debate and clone53421 in a fit of "geek angst" lol, stalked apk elsewhere and the link to which he refers which was posted by clone53421 himself. Pitiful. Do you know that forums' owner uses that guide to secure his PC's and servers? Ask him yourself clone53421, since you are now a member there (write the moderator there in pm and find out how wrong you really are as usual). No small wonder you are rated as "off topic" in your reply as ac now, clone53421, you are not fooling anyone with that transparent tactic here. What's being "advertised" is evidence of you stalking others online forums to forums when you lose technical debates is all. You can't handle your "geek angst" (lol) like an adult. Grow up boy.

Your friend clone53421 stalks others online?
We see that your friend (you under another account is more like it), in clone53421, likes stalking others to other forums?
Says it all right there. Pretty pitiful of "your friend" (you) clone53421, and all because he badly lost a debate here to apk on
/., where you libeled he alongside clone53421 (you are probably the same person posting under diff. registered accounts to 'defend one another' and to "mod yourself up" by using diff. registered accounts. That fools no one, especially here, as we are all aware of that occurring here on this forum quite rampantly squiggleslash). In fact, clone and yourself had repeatedly done the stalking and libeling of that ac apk, and with invalid libelous information from sources who tried the same to apk before, in Jeremy Reimer and Jay Little (who only got caught email harassing he by their ISPs, had their websites with death threats & impersonations of apk removed in part or their entirely (3 of them no less, 3 times) by their hosting providers, and had law enforcement in their local areas notified on them both, due to such "geek angst based" death threats).
You're shameful and lame.
-
squiggleslash: Do YOU have a CSC or CIS degree?
Do your sources? CA's bottom of the barrell commercial ware, and THOR SCHMUCK and the rest of them? Nobody of note. His ware is also listed as zero threat levels there, and apk passed every question of CA's 21 point malware removal test also, violating not a single constraint. So much for your "valid sources". I did see that your friend clone53421 likes stalking apk to other forums despite he stated he is being stalked. See this:

Prove you have those customers, because you were asked to do so. Apparently, You can't and that is that. For what kind of "programming" too, I wonder also (IF any). Webpages? LOL!
Classified that way, though I have a winning case for libel of myself by CA and Thor Schmuck (who are misleading others)? Yea, ok. Note it's listed there with ZERO THREAT LEVELS, and again, Nir Sofer and Dr. Mark Russinovich of Microsoft have had the same happen to they too. AntiVirus/AntiSpyware programs have false positives and even miss threats, all the time also. So much for your "sources" boys.
