What's up next for Clan Walrus? So. What's next for you guys?
Not that you'll shutter P-A anytime soon, of course; I have no doubt that Penny-Arcade will go on undaunted for centuries. (That is, long after the world has destroyed itself with nuclear weapons, leaving the only surviving creatures---cockroaches---to continue writing and drawing the strip, which they will rename "Metamorphosis".)
But you guys are too talented to be confined to just one creative outlet. I'm glad to see Gabe scanning his sketchbooks, and we've seen a few short comic-book-style tie-ins with various videogame releases (for which we are all grateful, because we know it pays the bills). But, you see, these are crumbs, scraps, minutiae, errata
... compared to the Next Big Thing From Jerry And Mike.Which is
... what, exactly? (Is it Automata?) Maybe you don't have it all planned out yet ... but what would you LIKE to be doing with your irrepressible talent (and your pioneering webcomix careers)?[Oh, and if you're looking to revisit the glory days of CW anytime soon, my friends and I have a standing weekly Quake 1 lagfest; you're welcome to join in. Q1 is a classic. Just shoot me an email.

Re:Advertising
They're not very appreciative of their Slashdot fans I've noticed too.

Re:Returning the worship
The Cardboard Tube Samurai was mentioned in a Soul Reaver game too.
See here (I can't find the original reference). -
Re:WTF?
They're doing us a FAVOR! This way we know that they haven't dicked around with the interface and play control to add some pointless tweaks for the sake of "revolutionizing" the gameplay. While I have loved Metroid since I played the first one in '86, I'm generally an RPGer. Whenever I read about an RPG being "revolutionary" in 2004, it generally means the same 2 things: 25-minute cutscenes (AKA "Xenosaga Syndrome") and that goddamn Real-time-battle-with-idiotic-AI bullshit that only me and Tycho seem to loathe.
I see the lack of revolutionary new gameplay as a very comforting selling point. -

D'oh, I messed up the link.
Here is the thread where I took that list from -
Re:Regarding Bungie
A classic. I remembered it more for its hit on the controllers than Halo.

There is a merchandice thread over at the PA forums:

Re:Do you feel the pressure to self-censor?
STOP, kids! Let's make the MOST of this POST!
Let's see what what you've got so far!
Parents buy GTA for their kids, do you really think that Penny Arcade needs to sensor?
You've used the wrong homophone here! What you said here literally means "do you really think that Penny Arcade needs to [object that responds to stimulus]?", which clearly makes no sense.
While I agree that some parents are clearly using violent games and television programming as an excuse for lack of personal responsibility for their children, I wonder where your parents' personal responsibility was for your education. -

You may be wondering why the Elf Only Inn comics are there. On Valentine's Day of this year, PA and EOI did cross-over comics.. The EOI version was a blind date between the Fruit Fucker and one of the characters.
There is also a more recent Fruit Fucker comic but the site is too slow now to search for it. Enjoy.

Re:Alias Sketchbook Pro
Clearly slashdotting their main page is not enough, so here is the link to the aforementioned video http://www.penny-arcade.com/inking.wmv

Re:will you make fun of us?
This should answer your question. (You can view it once the Slashdotting subsides of course...) (Um... it's the "M$" strip for those who remember as fondly as I.)

Re:Collaboration...
According to their August 16th comic, it appears they collaborate.
I would like to point out how disturbing the comic really is by mentioning that his son was born 3 weeks after that strip. -

Tell Me More About PAX
I understand your first PAX (Penny Arcade Expo) game convention was a huge success. Why did you do it? What's coming up for next year? Are you planning to expand to other cities? How can you top this year's Omegathon prize package?

Too Damn Late
I seem to remember at one point one of you mentioned the possibility of a program, animated or otherwise.
Are you still entertaining the possibility of jumping to other media? For what it's worth, Too Damn Late is an excellent title for a late night talk show. -
Re:I'll post my question anonymously:
Here's a link explaining the joke for all the clueless mods who would rather waste mod points on ACs than understand his post.

Note to mods, re: parent comment
The post is a reference to this Penny Arcade strip.

Tetris.
Are there any plans for the Tetris Movie coming out soon?
If so, do you get royalties for it?

Who's telling the truth?penny-arcade.com:
- In other news EA grinds up babies to make their games. Well maybe they aren't that bad but they do totally fuck over their employees.
- One of EA's major strengths is in management of people and process.
- The largest sin at EA is not delivering your game on time.
- EA has a very young, energetic work force.
- People at EA work long hours, in large part because of their great passion for making games.
Who's telling the truth? You decide.
Personally, I think Randy Pausch is a putz, and I'm speaking both as someone who has seen him lecture at CMU and who has friends that were advised by him.

Re:Play games at hom
Game testing really is work. Imagine if you were a professional baseball tester, and your job was th take each baseball off the assembly line and throw it to a guy across the room, and he would catch it and put it in the "accepted" pile. If he missed the ball or it wwasn't flying straight, it would go behind him to the "reject" pile. As much as I love playing catch, after a couple days of that I'd want out of there real quick. To get a good perspective on what it's like to be a game tester, read Porkfry's game tester diary on Penny-Arcade

Obligatory Penny Arcade Link
Yes, I like punctuation too.

better link
Here's the correct and more permanent link.
(when they release a new comic tomorrow, this one will still refer to the correct one) -
Re:Hopefully not as terrible as the first
Penny Arcade put it well:
http://www.penny-arcade.com/view.php3/
Halo has exposed a new set of people to FPS gaming: those that are not technically inclined enough to get a computer and play HL, Quake, Doom, etc. IE: your typical morons that run around pursuing degrees in communications, interpretive dance, and underwater basket weaving. It is only big because these people have not seen an FPS before. As far as FPSs are concerned, Halo is average - not that it's a bad game, but it's just a typical run-of-the-mill production. Sure, you can load it up and have a bit of fun, but it is not what Quake used to be, nor is it what Half Life has been for the past several years. -
Re:Wear a Name tag!
One tip to get them to id you as a Buzz, is to wear fraternity letters, nothing else says rich tool like those.
I didn't know you made that much money working at Taco Bell. -
just an observations on pricing
I went in to Best Buy to purchase a VCR (of all antiquated things...) and the price was roughly $50. I started looking for a cheapo RCA A/V cable to connect it to my TV card and I stop at an entire isle of gold platted A/V cables.
$30 for a 12 foot A/V cable??? I had to search through an obscure rack in the store that had items without price tags to find a cheaper one that ended up being $15.
When you consider that they were even selling a DVD player for $50 it's obvious that they are actually making all their profits off of people buying accessories and other extras.
I'm reminded of this -

Hell, even Penny Arcade liked it.
Yes, and if you hit that back button on the site, or click this link you'll find a much more compelling story. -
Is it really that surprising?
I 'learned' french at school but I couldn't parlez today to save myself. I can't think of anything more painful than sitting through a french movie. It sounds like a bunch of people here have been inflicting this on themselves - and they didn't even get subtitles!
If you played the leaked version of Walo and everyone's speaking jibberish, of course you weren't going to enjoy yourself were you?
"Blu blie blu blah blah?"
"non! Fron thron shron!"

Re:I'll say this anonymously
People tend to get bent out of shape when they are faced with direct rudeness.
Add an ad hominem argument for the sake of trying to shore up weak point and you end up looking really, really dumb.Or maybe you really hate people who hold a point of view very strongly and think that everyone aught to be just like you.
I don't know and I really don't care at this point. I've got other things to deal with, and trying to converse with a total fuckwad isn't very high on my list. -
Freelancer
From those screenshots it looks like somebody finally went and made a decent game with the Freelancer engine. I'm pretty sure they used a different one, but it looks similar.
*sigh* Freelancer was so disappointing. Look, we have an absolutely enormous world for you to play in, and, erm, no roleplaying elements... and the combat is point-and-click... and most of the world is empty space... and only three ships viable for high-level use... but hey it sure looks pretty http://www.penny-arcade.com/view.php3?date=2000-12 -06&res=l -
