Re:Democracy.
Oh fucking please. I'm sorry, I've been very polite up to this point but I really have to ask if you have any idea what you are talking about. Voters won't even know the names of the candidates. Not that it really matters cause the locations of the polls will not be revealed until election day! The elections are for the benefit of the west to justify the US installing a puppet government, it's that simple.

Re:Oh no
> Strange, the cash in my pocket doesn't have my address on it.
Well, that is what YOU think. -
This is moot now
...Beginning in 2005, the Department of Homeland Security will issue new uniformity regulations to the States requiring that all Drivers Licenses and Birth Certificates meet minimal Federal Standards with regard to US citizen information, including biometric security provisions...
Because the federal government now controls the universal standard for Drivers Licences.
Its clear that the house should never pass a bill with more than 10 pages; these provisions were buried in a 3000 page bill, which no legislator read before voting.
Each congressman should be forced to read every page of the bills that they sign into law, and they should be made to sign each page indicating that they hare read the page.
Then again, no one in america cares about any of this, and for certain, at least 59,054,087 people will think that its a good idea. -
Re:Key word "former"
Ok, how about the Chief of US Central Command calling for more restrictions on internet access? Would that get your attention?
## article ##
A top US general called on Friday for bolder international action to stop the "spread of Muslim extremism", suggesting curbs were needed to prevent the Internet and other media from being used by groups like Al Qaeda.
"Why is it that people have the right to get on the Internet and spread this hatred and insanity without there being some curb, some law?" said Gen John Abizaid, the chief of the US Central Command.
"To me if we think this is some kind of freedom of speech to put on a picture of someone getting their head chopped off on the Internet and people have the right to purvey that, that's not the world I want to live in, and it just encourages this kind of behavior," he said.
The above article is dated 11/29/2004 and can be found at: http://prisonplanet.com/articles/november2004/2911 04internetcontrols.htm
Personally I think Tenet is floating a ballon for the current administration and the General is more or less speaking his mind(but is aware of an idea/thought/plan to restrict 'net access). That the two individuals would come out publicly with similar seniments the same week isn't a particularly good sign of what's brewing in the back office. -

Too bad that The People Of the USA trusted an AWOL Air National Guard washout over a man who proved what he's made of in the jungles of Vietnam.
When the american people FINALLY wake up after hundereds of thousands of their children are sent back in coffins just to satisfy GWB's power lust,They will wonder why.
Here's why.You believed the BS from GWB and his croonies. You'll lose what civil rights that you have left(You trading them away to be 'SECURE'You deserve neither.).Ask why when the American Gestapo(Dept. As for me,I've have had enough of the new american police state. The rifles are loaded. & I'm waiting. And I won't hesitate to use them.I'll survive.Hillbillies like myself are used to hard times.(I just hope the radiation doesn't get too bad.) -

Re:Some thoughtsI know most people here would probably wipe off the stuff about Kerry and Bush both having been members of Skull and Bones as just more deranged conspiracy theories...but to me, it honestly is scary.
Skull & Bones exists, and Kerry is a member. He said as much on national TV. John Kerry admits to Skull and Bones Membership on 'Meet The Press' - Video
I think the reason why the 2000 election happened the way it did was because the Democratic candidate in that race was not one of the ruling entity's people, so they had to use whatever means necessary to make sure he didn't get into power."In addition, Bush (Senior) sanctioned the installing of sons as state governors, and didn't forget to import expertise (From the Middle Eastern Dictators) in election fraud from the region's presidents to Florida to be made use of in moments of difficulty." - Osama bin Ladin
This race isn't about Bush vs Kerry. It's about Saruman "vs" Grima Wormtounge, to use another analogy which I know everyone here will be familiar with. We don't know who's playing Sauron in this scenario yet...and from what I've been reading so far, I'm guessing we *really* don't want to."If the people have elected those governments in the latest elections, it is because they have fallen prey to the Western media which portray things contrary to what they really are. And while the slogans raised by those regimes call for humanity, justice, and peace, the behavior of their governments is completely the opposite. It is not enough for their people to show pain when they see our children being killed in Israeli raids launched by American planes, nor does this serve the purpose. What they ought to do is change their governments which attack our countries. - Osama, Again"
Now where did I put my tin foil hat... Seriously though, someone needs to hire this Osama guy as a commentator. If you remove the name from the things he says, I bet he'd get some pretty good ratings. -

I am not an armchair quarterback. Nor am I some politically idealistic and naÃve young soldier...
Al Lorentz is the former Chairman of the Constitution Party of Texas. He was against the war in Iraq, because Lorentz believes in isolationism (even after 9/11). So while he is not "some politically idealistic and naÃve young soldier", that's only true because he's not young. He is a political ideologue, with an anti-Bush paranoia.
I am an old and seasoned Non-Commissioned Officer with nearly 20 years under my belt. Additionally, I am not just a soldier with a muds-eye view of the war, I am in Civil Affairs and as such, it is my job to be aware of all the events occurring in this country and specifically in my region.
That made my Bullshit Detector go off like a Claymore in a cattle drive.
Al Lorentz spent most of his career in the Reserves.
A noncomm in Civil Affairs doesn't have a "muds-eye view" of the war at all. He may as well be back in Texas, for all the fighting he'll see. This guy is an armchair General. Why isn't he an officer? Because he's incompetent for a commission, that's why.
Al Lorentz was a Bush basher before he went to Iraq, and he's a Bush basher now.
From another article by Lorentz:Pigeon holing is a mental tool used by the ignorant to help them disregard information, ideas and people whom they are incapable or unwilling to understand. A good example of pigeon holing is to declare flippantly that anyone who believes any sort of conspiracy whatsoever as some sort of kook. Never mind that history is replete with proven conspiracies and that a conspiracy is merely two or more individuals conspiring together for any means.

Re:Freedom? Now for the truth, in context:
I'll take the President's resolve to preempt the terrorist threat over Kerry's "swift response" after they've already killed more innocent people any day.
And are you putting Bin Laden forward as some sort of prophet? That evil man says what he wants, but I will die before I let scum like him have it.
I leave you with this:
"First of all, let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself - nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance."
- Franklin D. Roosevelt -
more industry protectionism on the wayThe BBC's Washington correspondent has a story about a "web of terrorism" today. It's a clear call for internet censorship, which will clearly benefit incumbent service providers at the expense of the web and freedom of speech.
People in Washington and elsewhere have noticed that terrorists use the internet in much the same way they do. They point to web sites and even combat games used as "online training camps".
Words like that are usually followed by bombs and at least one person has been to jail over it already and speech has not been free everywhere forever. The EFF has a nice list of sites already shut down.
More stupid laws can't be far behind a propaganda ramp up like that. The only way to implement the censorship that would be to continue to centralize telecommunications further. The only way to kill free speech is to kill free enterprise.
The pattern is clear. The government is augmenting it's own power by proping up favorites in industry. It's so unAmerican that I want to throw up.

Re:He takes that tact because he knows he is lieinWarning, this point contains what some might consider spoilers (if you can spoil a documentary).
This article uses one of the logical fallicies (read: the right's play book) of building up a straw man to tear it down. He does not summarise the movie well. You'll have to go see it your self to know what it says.
Some points he missed:
- Ashcroft told the FBI not to talk to him about terrorism anymore in the summer of 2001, despite significant intellegence.
- Bush sat on his ass for seven minutes after he had been told our nation was under attack.
- The U.S. is killing innocent civilians in Iraq.
- The U.S. is arresting people in Iraq in a martial law type fashon.
- The U.S. armed forces prefferentially recruit in low income neighborhoods, where the armed forces may be the only way for a kid to go to college.Really, the only other option to a life of poverty.
- George Bush is pushing for reductions and more reductions in veterans benifits.

Naw......think I just won't shut up. Think I'll keep pointing people to some real data, like the firefighters on the scene who reported the explosions going off in sequence right before the building collapsed. I'll keep pointing them to independent, un connected civil engineers who say "it just couldn't happen like they say it did". I'll keep telling people that the victims im building two were ordered to stay inside when they could have been evacuated. I'll keep telling people it's the first time that jets weren't scrambled immediately when a hijacking weas in progress. I'll keep pointing out data like the plane in pennsylvania had a significant quantity of itself 8miles away from the crash scene, when no way in heck could it have bounced there, and the eyewitness reports who reported "some unknown plane" following it at close range at the same time, something the government still denies. And stuff like that. Nope, not shutting me up, or shutting up other people either.

The above is just a small sample of the real info out there and the interest. I can guarantee you neither I, nor all these other people are going to "shut up" over this reichstagg-fire coup d'etat that took place.
But,thanks for the opportunity to reply! And it doesn't bother me a whit to be called names, or be disagreed with! After you have been beat, gassed, threatened with death, been lied about in court, had evidence planted, and various things like that...plus getting to know quite a few insiders in the system who are willing to talk off the record and clue you in to some *quite interesting things*, people who are honest people and true patriots... well
..anything someone on the net can say to you is sorta silly in the way of "hurt", as in "neener neener". It just won't work, but thanks for playing! Everyday, people all over the net are reading similar posts, and going to look for data for themselves. That's how it should be, take a gander at the evidence, see what ya think, it's the american way and stuff. And someone is going to read this, maybe not reply, but go look for themselves, and get hip. It's a good thing. -

Police State, documentary films
Alex Jones, a documentary film maker and owner of INFOWARS.COM has quite an archive of situations such as this in what he refers to as the rise of a military police state in America. The common theme that is relative to this article is the notion of being presumed guilty until proven innocent. Citizens are being treated like potential-terrorists, forced to show papers, and subjected to tyranny for resisting.
Coincidentally there is an excellent dashboard-cam video of a woman in Texas being abused in this very manner. She knew her rights and they arrested her for abstructing justice and assault on a police officer. A jury acquitted her of all charges.
He has published several films available for purchase, and he gives permission to distribute them at no cost, so you can find most of the films on the P2P networks. Police State 2000, Police State II: The Takeover, Police State III: Total Enslavement
Other relevant sites include PRISON PLANET and PROPAGANDA MATRIX. All of these sites have a raw Drudge Report kind of feel to it and are more of a collection of news stories gathered from around the globe that illustrate their concerns. -

Ok, enough of this kook stuff
This sounds like typical Alex Jones kook material. The best place to keep up on government activities is to watch CNN and FOX news and from the government themselves. Don't read the seditious trash you see on sites like From the Wilderness or Prisonplanet.com. It's all false and none of it is what people should be reading. There is no need to worry about the government since they are honest and caring people. They're making sure that the terrorists are caught, gun owners are burned to death, tax protestors are brutally beaten and jailed, grandmothers are stripped searched at airports, marijuana smokers are imprisoned, etc. It's all good stuff they do to keep America free, so don't be subversive.
-
This sounds like typical kook material
I'm sure the kooks out there like Alex Jones and Michael Ruppert will be all over this. Spreading their filth and slander against our government, the Patriot act, gun control, and much needed social programs. They're extremists and LIARS.
You're a fucking KOOK if you're against this project and letting the government have control of it! GROW UP!!! -
I disagree with the EFF.
The DMCA is a good law that needs to stay on the books and be enforced. I know that may not sit well with some folks on this site, but so be it. Those who disagree with the DMCA probably listen to kooks like Michael Ruppert and Alex Jones. Time to grow up and realize that the DMCA, PATRIOT Act, gun control and gun bans, the War on Drugs, asset forfeiture laws, and social programs are good and anyone against them is an extremist.
-
I disagree with the EFF.
As usual, the EFF is wrong. The last place this trusted computing mechanism should be placed is in the hands of the computer owner or user. It should be kept in full control by the Department of Homeland Security. The reason I say this, and is is indeed a good reason, is that the department needs to check up on people to see if they are terrorists, to make sure they are paying their taxes appropriately, to make sure they aren't into drugs, to make sure they aren't seditious (see terrorism), and to make sure they don't have drawings of politically inappropriate guns on their computers. It's really for the good of the society that they have this power. I know it's been said before, but I think it needs to be repeated: If you have nothing to hide, then you have nothing to fear. In today's society this is certainly true. Drug law violators, tax protesters, gun owners, and other social deviants need to be reigned in and we must give our government the power to do so. Now I know most people here (I hope) don't listen to kooks like Michael Ruppert, Alex Jones, or that sickening V Dare group. Good and patriotic Americans stand behind social programs, are for higher taxes and more deficit spending, more aid to Israel, they're in support of renewing the assault weapons ban and banning all guns, they support outsourcing jobs to foreign countries, they support the influx of undocumented immigrants, and they support and embrace the New World Order.
Folks, quit listening to kooks and accept what your government says needs to be done. It's for your freedom and well being after all. -
Re:nuclear isomers
This article may be complete crap, but it claims red mercury is mercury antimony oxide, compressed using a primary explosion to induce fusion.
And I agree with another poster about use in rocket engines. While the gamma rays my provide little boost -- and I do believe they would provide some, otherwise why would solar sails work? -- they could be used to heat some other material either to produce thrust or electricity.

If you're into exposing this sort of stuff...
I encourage you to also check out InfoWars as well as Prison Planet, or any number of related sites. Most of these things that come up in YRO segments here on slashdot have been predicted or commented on weeks or months in advance by these folks.
A healthy dose of paranoia or cold hard facts, you be the judge. But at any rate, they do their best to avoid speculation and point directly to the house & senate bills and underscore text of scary things like the Patriot Act. Much like Slashdot they are always linking to supporting stories from AP, Reuters, Washington post, etc.
But in the words of Reading Rainbow's beloved host LeVar Burton: "You don't have to take my word for it."

Ways out. . .The only way out is to kill.
It's past noon, my friend. It's getting too late even for civil uprising. The lock-down is very nearly complete, and people are too dazed to realize it. If you wanted to organize a civil war, I don't think you could pull it together without getting yourself vanished long before you managed to get anything started. You couldn't use the net; you'd have to do it in basements and using local people, (And good luck finding enough like-minded neighbors willing to die for their country!)
The science of cell networks with physical go-betweens is long dead. People have been numbed into blithering stupidity. --A great many of them still believe that Bush is 'da man. (With the exception of the ecconomy. But so what? Bush will either rig another election, or the guy from the other side will get in. --Who also happens to be a Bonesmen this time around. Gee, no kidding?)
I hate to say it, but the ship is done for. It is now the time to get yourself out of America toot-sweet. 'Cuz in a few short years, French and German shells are going to be raining through American skies. --But not before Bush and his gang of psychopaths has turned the middle east into a firey cauldron and scooped up all native dissenters, such as yourself.
This is not a drill. Check out this site on American concentration camps. --A little alarmist, but there is a healthy dose of real info in there, too. Here are several others. . . Ashcroft plan Okanagon County And my 'favorite', which describes just how willing American soldiers are to break the Geneva Convention in Afghansitan when dealing with 'terrorists'.
Brutal. And for the most part, invisible. Seriously. Buy a mini-van and load up what you need, or ship your essential stuff, board a plane and get out. It's not as hard as it sounds, and hey, you might just live to see the end of the decade.
Cheers.

Re:Not A Joke
Now, the 'temporary' measure appears to be a permanent fixture, which is probably only fair since the "war on terrorism" itself will likely last longer than any of us will live.
Indeed - the war on terrorism that Hitler started hasn't really ended yet, has it? -
Re:Military targets?
Yes that's great, but your beeing lied to.
