Re:This is cool
I recommend: http://www.psp-hacks.com/ and http://pspupdates.qj.net/ for the most part, as well as their respective forums at: http://www.psp-hacks.com/forums/ and http://forums.qj.net/f-psp-development-hacks-and-homebrew-13.html/ Lots of cool stuff there and you can always ask for help or advice. Personally, I have Bookr, PSPSSH, PSPIRC, and IRSHELL on mine. All very useful tools imo

Remote Play...
The PS3 can work with the PSP to allow remote play. You put your game into your PS3, put it in suspend or hibernate (or whatever the hell they call it), then you go somewhere with wi-fi, fire up your PSP and connect back to your PS3 and play the game. Check out this link which shows a video of the game in action and another description of it:
http://www.psp-hacks.com/2007/09/02/lair-psp-remot e-play/
Personally I don't care too much for the PS3 as a whole, price and lack of games being the two biggest issues, but if Sony or Microsoft could figure out a way to make this work for all kinds of games (not just Lair), or better still, incorporate real online multiplayer capabilities, that would make me buy one REGARDLESS of price. Sony taking a hit on these PS3's has so far managed to make them offer a technically superior product at a (hopefully) decreasing price and tying it into their portable player, which I think is a very good thing! -
Wii doesn't win. PSP wins.
Silently, like a stealthy ninja...
The PSP has never been stronger, but its only partially because of what Sony has done. Dark Alex, and the ocean of other homebrew hacks have open up the power of this truely awesome little piece of hardware that was way ahead of its time, *IF* you are comfortable flashing firmwares, reading FAQS, and copying files across to a USB drive device.
The DS, PS3, and Wii aren't even in the same league. Simply because they aren't very hackable. A side by side comparison between tweaked out PSP makes an IPOD or ZUNE, makes the later look like an unattractive brick. You've got a beautiful screen on the PSP, wifi, inet browser, run ISOs right from the memory card, play movies, music, streamcast music, trillian style chat with afkim, thousands and thousands of ROM games with the slew of emulators out there, the list goes on... not to mention its portable. Install a homebrew firmware, get a huge memstick, tons of ISOs and ROMS, and a good clear fullbody protective case for it, and find nirvana.

The only better gaming platform, IMHO, is a laptop, or PC. I don't even consider most consoles as viable gaming platforms simply because they can not or are anethma to running homebrew. Sony is hostilily opposed to homebrew, but in the case of the PSP, they were pwned by a lot of dedicated hardcore fans... and I think in the end the fight between both factions produced a truely marvelous state of affairs for the PSP.
Sony should of came out with a next version, upgrading the wifi to G or better, scrapping the UMD and substituing a harddrive, maybe adding a second mini joystick like many wanted, and some sort of keyboard interface. Still the PSP is very neat the way it is. More fun and useful than a PocketPC or Ipod by a lot. -

Slashdot Duped by the QJ Network
The person who submitted this article carefully linked to the PSPUpdates/qjnet spam machine which charges it uses 3 dollars a week to view the forums with no ads, on the newsposts them selves they have not linked to the real coders sites or indeed release threads. This network have been banned from digg for these actions of spamming and well i hope slashdot do too. If your looking for better PSP News Sites that actually link properly then check out these sites: PSP News - http://psp-news.dcemu.co.uk/ PSP 3D - http://psp3d.com/ PSP Hacks.com - http://www.psp-hacks.com/

Re:How's this HACKING anyway?
*ahem* "homebrewn games" (strange how those are only waved around as an excuse to load _pirated_ commercial games)
Right.
Obviously all the stuff here is pirated commercial games.
Idiots like you who use the spectre of piracy to try to silence independent creative activity are no more than tools of the media giants. You're being used to turn us from a nation of smart and productive thinkers into a nation of passive "consumers" who do nothing but churn out a minimum wage by day and "consume" media by night.
I hope you're proud of it. -

PSP SDK
You can download the toolchain script from here which will install everything you need to get started. I've used it in cygwin in windows and on ubuntu.:
http://www.oopo.net/consoledev/
For running stuff on the 1.5 psp you need to use kxploit to patch the executable (eboot.pbp) this can be found here:
http://www.psp-hacks.com/2005/06/22/kxploit-direct -loader-v150-released/ -
Check psp-hacks.com for details
http://www.psp-hacks.com/ has all the details on what the v2.0 does.

Re:No win situation
Unless you really need the latest gadget RIGHT NOW - it's a good idea to wait a few generations before buying it.
And if you waited to pick up a PSP, you missed your chance to get one with the 1.50 firmware, which can now run homebrew.

Re:Better Exploit
Here... PSP for about $60 worth of crap...
http://www.psp-hacks.com/free-psp.php -
Re:Great...
Update: Straight from ps2nfo.com - its been confirmed that the exploit only works on 1.50 firmware versions. If you've upgraded to 1.51 or 1.52 you're out of luck, for now.
Well the time we've all been waiting for has finally arrived; well not quite yet - but its been confirmed by various groups that it is indeed real and the "release date" is scheduled for 6/15/2005 (15:00 GTM+1) .
From ps2nfo.com:
"We at Team PS2NFO congratulate our Spanish affiliates, and look forward to LOTS of nice "homebrew" releases to follow along with even more UMD dumps! Please post all related feedback on this VERY COOL news in THIS on-going Forum thread. Finally, we'd like to make it known that the legitimacy of this news has already been 100% confirmed by myself via high-ranking scene elders... so no, this is NOT another "fake video" nor publicity stunt- it's REAL!"
Let's wait and see what June 15th brings! Stay tuned for updates on this story.

Sony should chill out
There are a ton of people from europe over at the PSP Hacks forums. It's not like these units are being stolen and sold, Sony is still making their money. They should chill out.

Hellow world has been ported to PSP!
Some guy with a fantasic imagination has got his own code to run on psp. It sounds as though this doesn't work with the latest firmware though.
The there are details here PSP-Hacks.com
I guess Sony will force Firmware updates to play games online and stuff, either that or fix the user interface so there is an incetive for users to download cripling updates.
