    Not only did it take a long time, but there are tons of stories, not to mention video and pictures which still have not been reported by mainstream media, (at least in America). In Europe, and the Arab world, one sees very different images. As an example, take a look at this video of America's finest punish some Iraqi's for taking wood: DontLoot.wmv, or try google
    The question is not as much whether the images exist, it is whether gutless mainstream American media is willing to show it.

    Since you obviously did not RTFA, I will attempt to explain.

    Most old recordings on disc and cylinder are extremely fragile. In some cases, simply handling or moving them involves the risk of destruction, let alone actually sticking a needle to them. Here's a link to the old Tech TV clip to illustrate.

    What the scientists did was to image the records without actually touching them, and generate the recordings that way. It is quite an impressive feat, actually. Sure, your little sound editor can clean it up real nice, but you've got to get the recording into a digital format first, and that's what this is about.

    You, the grandparent poster, and whoever the hell modded you guys up all seem to have completely missed the point.

    Flat Eric. Not that the Baboochi isn't a good start, it seems that toys that grown-ups can laugh at through one marketing channel and kids can appreciate on their own level will always endear themselves more effectively than simple flat blue animals.

    Not unlike the Buddy Lee campaign... which succeeded both as doll-based jingle silliness for TV people and as more mature viral webmercials for the internet set...

    This story reminds me of the vid clip I saw on this page. Totally pointless, but very cool - I've never seen anything chop through wood quite so quick - and the sound it makes it almost worth the effort...
