Re:Almost Dominionist party time!
from the way the trolls are foaming at the mouth here, it sounds like they'd give more creedence to the rapture index

Perhaps, but the Rapture Index is at 163, will into "fasten your seat belts" territory.

"Good enough" is what people actually DO
The reality is that computers today "live longer" than they used to. Having a 9-10 year old computer was once unthinkable; it's now almost normal for just about any old Pentium 4 to still be in use today, and the Pentium 4 was apparently released in late 2000.
I put a new (but cheap!) AGP video card into an older P4 desktop computer (hint: PC-133 RAM!) that my son now uses to play Spore - one of the newer, hotter games around - it plays just great.
It's a trend - computers are "doing" for longer than they used to. They are in use for longer, and people hang on to them longer. They are less willing to buy the top-end because there's no reason to.

Re:ETHICS!!
First off you need to understand that Intelligent Design is just a re-phrasing of the Teleological Argument. Now for some statistics. http://www.raptureready.com/featured/funk/statistics-probability.html and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irreducible_complexity just to start.

Re:It's like Republican's and abortion:
Could it be that the Republicans haven't actually worked on an Amendment
Just because they haven't come close to passing doesn't mean they haven't tried. Which, you know, was the point.
Could it be that the Republicans haven't actually worked on an Amendment to ban abortions is because some Republicans are pro-choice?
Uh, no. If the GOP has a choice between backing a "moderate", pro-choice Republican in a blue district who votes with them on the rest of the issues vs losing a seat to a pro-choice Democrat who votes with them on none of the issues, obviously they're going to take the pro-choice Republican. See: Lincoln Chaffe, Christopher Shays. -
Re:Against Alaska or West Coast
I'm pretty sure Rapture Index jumped a couple of points today. Let me check. 154 today. According to the index anything above 145:Fasten your seat belts. Holy cow Batman! I don't want to left behind when the NeoCons hit the button, where do I sign up to their Religion?

Re:Tired of idiots that don't understand freedom
Problem is, they're NOT afraid of it. They are hoping and praying for it.

Re:Your skin is not melting
"So as you feel your skin cancer forming and watch the ice caps come washing over us..."
Bush doesn't care about the future, because for him and his whole world, there is no future. George Bush is conducting his presidency based on the religious concept of "End Days", which proclaims that the world as it is will be destroyed, and somehow remade, with only "born-again christians" surviving. That should serve as a strong warning about what they might plan to do to the rest of us.
PAY ATTENTION, PEOPLE:
The USA, and therefore much of the world, is now controlled by doomsday cults. That they are not commonly recognized as doomsday cults is an error. They don't specify which day the world will end, but because they are promoting its end "In their lifetimes", and because their older, more influential leaders are nearing the natural end of their own lifetimes, it is probably assumed by many that the "Rapture" will occur within the next 10 years or so. Very similar to GWB's timetable for Iraq. And of course, global warming and other disasters can be allowed to continue, because it's all part of big jesus' mighty plan. Right?

Something WEIRD to see hereThe rapture is nigh!
Not according to this. The rapture index is declining. (Must be a poll amongst married folk. How does one get to be a false prophet, anyway?)
The biggest WTF?
34 The Antichrist:
The French no vote on the EU constitution has downgraded this category.Fasten your seat belts so the rapture don't suck you into them clouds.
The positive side of the ice core results: the water content of the atmosphere seems to have decreased - the core is almost full of it!
Warning: modding this down could unleash the Rapture!

Nothing to see here
Of course the world is heating up. The rapture is nigh!

Re:Biting the hand that feeds
Unfortunately, many Methodist congregations in the South do not qualify as mainstream.
Having said that, it seems clear that Bush is without genuine religious feeling and is simply milking other folks' perception of impending apocalypse for all he can get.
See The Rapture Index, which bills itself as " The prophetic speedometer of end-time activity." -

Re:Americans are sensible... apologies in advance for responding to trolls
...
There was an article in a 1975 edition of Newsweek where scientists were sure of a global cooling. Now it's a global warming?
Scientific hypothosi(sp?) evolve; religious nut jobs stay the same. That's the big difference. I'd be a lot more worried if thirty years of scientific research resulted in no changes in theory.
So what source do you cite that says Christians think it's okay to ignore global warming because of the Second Coming? I'd like to see that article.
You seem to be considering the relationship. Here's a link to your Rapture Index on your site. You have climate at "5" in your "waiting for the end of the world" chart. To be fair, your do say "We cannot take a defeatist attitude and just let things fall apart. Each of us has a responsibility to one another to care for the world around us.". But for us liberals out there, we don't actually see the fundamentalists doing much except burning books and bombing things. Maybe if the fundamentalists occasionally tried to save an endangered species or kept a national park from being turned into a stip mine or simply lobbied for higher fuel efficiency standards, we might think your words meant something.

Why bother?
I find myself wondering why these people are bothering...but then again, if I stop and think about it for a minute, it's not difficult to figure it out.
I suspect these fans are worried (and probably justifiably so) that if Enterprise is axed, it will finally truly be the end of Trek in general...and so therefore, as much of a twisted abomination as Enterprise surely is, in their minds it's infinitely more desirable than nothing at all.
There's something they're not realising, however...Namely that the entire reason why I think Gene's vision has vanished from the show is because America in particular has been blanketed by such intense, nihilistic darkness at the moment that it can no longer see it. Gene believed in a better future...America now is dominated by old men like Jerry Falwell and others who believe the only thing that lies ahead is Armageddon.
Out of the two, I certainly know which scenario I and a number of others prefer...the only problem is that Falwell and the other wingnuts of his ilk outnumber those who want to believe in any kind of optimistic future scenario by a factor of probably a thousand to one.
Then again, maybe these fans do see that...maybe what they're thinking is that that is why it's more important than ever that Trek survive right now...After all, light is never more desperately needed than at those times when you can't see your hand in front of your face...and that is exactly the scenario large parts of the world are in right now. -

Re:In other news...
No, by then all the true born-again believers will have been taken up in the Rapture and all the heathens will be left to endure the Tribulation. At least the faithful provide a guide for us that are left behind. How nice of them.

Some here are Christian..."Legitimate"?! I'm not going to force you down my path (the Christian one, leading to eternal life), but I'm certainly not going to endorse yours (the pagan one, leading to hell) as a reasonable alternative.
