Beware the /. "youth vote"...?Once again, repeat after me: there is no such thing as a
:youth vote." It is what we like to call an oxymoron. The youth simply do not vote. Just ask McGovern. You could lower the voting age to six and the turnout would not change. It doesn't matter whether or not people should care. They don't. And won't unless something really bad happens (i.e. global depression or Martian invasion).
So, apathy is a symptom of a healthy society and economy.
Go ahead and refuse to vote. More votes for Guandunh, conqueror of worlds. All hail Guandunh!

Argh! Beware the Pirate Galaxy! This cluster is, ironically enough, right next to another grouping of stars which look (from Earth) to be a giant serif-style X. On another part of the sky, deep-seeing telescopes can also see a figure of a serpent with the words "monsters be here."
Interesting.

Does anyone think the rumors scared SONY?Somehow, something tells me that with their units selling for thousands on e-bay and Dreamcasts sitting on the shelf, evidence of demand is there.
Now, if they can only get those units out the door...

so, it's better...so what?It could be the best derned platform on the planet, but you'll end up playing the 5 world's coolest demo games until you decide to fork over the cash for a PS2.
Intellivision was better.
Amiga was better.
We're saying this is better now, not just because of the steller stats. But because we know it is d-o-o-m-e-d.

The real worry for MS...is that someone will corrupt the Redmond source code by adding all kinds of back doors.
It would be catastrophic if a much-used application like Outlook or scripting platform like VBS had huge security holes that even twelve-year-old kids knew how to exploit.
How would anyone be able to trust Win servers for e-commmerce? Would there need to be "security challenged" notices on all Win2k powered e-commerce sites like genetically-altered poultry? Just a thought.
This is going to give me nightmares.

In terms of the great democracy of eyeballs...NASA peaked with the first moon landing.
They have been streamlining for years, "adjusting expectations." And still, if it weren't for the Russians making the US space program look good, there may not be a US space program.
I agree. It's time to end the monopoly that NASA has on the ionosphere and get on with it.

In other news: MS Switches Internal Servers to W2kmod me down (-1 troll) I don't care. But you have to admit, M$ and apple take a lot of stick for not using their own products for all of their web serving needs.

OSX Beta report cardI'm curious. How does the OSX Beta compare with other graphically-rich Unix flavors (specifically Irix)? I want the opinion of Unix users (not necessarily LinuxPPC folks like myself).
Since my machine is not uber enough to run it, I need to take your word for it.
I just hope Apple doesn't sue me for asking.

Questions for BushIs it true that you found one billion dollars of surplus in the national sofa?
What do you think about the media's treatment of Dan Quayle and comparisons they've made to you?
How are you planning to prepare for the last mass debate?
Some media sources say that you and Gore have a personal wager going on Tuesday's debate, something called "Loser Leaves Town Night". Is this true?

FEC thins field - Makes US Safe for DemocracyMany people are upset about the paucity of choices this Fall. The way the FEC treated Nader at the first debate was absolutely comic.
The foxes in charge of the chicken coop claim that everything is fine.
You may want to check out this article.
-
If the major parties were M$...If the FEC has a monopoly on the debates, cannot the DOJ apply anti-trust laws on them? The two major parties will have to split into several disperate parties, stop making corporate deals to block out smaller parties, control over the startup desktop (er, I mean, ballot) will have to be loosened, and the debates (or at least the first few) would be open to anyone on the ballot in all 50 states (7 candidates this year).
The idea of a Nader presidency scares the crap out of me, but it seems that voting for him is the only way to shock people into rethinking the nature of our two party system.
P.S. All my life, I've heard that this generation is apathetic. From boards like this, you can tell that we care deeply about certain things. We're just too lazy to vote. I can guarantee you this: more than half of the people bitching and moaning about the options this year will never bother to register.
-
Candidates from space - not interested in itPerhaps it is rash to assume that all 3rd party candidates would be more amenible to the idea of space exploration.
Nader would demand that the space vehicle be fitted with airbags and anti-lock air brakes, making the project too expensive to work.
Buchannan doesn't know what life forms may exist in the cosmos, but he already mistrusts them. "They'll work cheap and take away American jobs!"
Haglin doesn't think the government should be in the business of funding space exploration. Re-arrange the wording to emphesize the monopoly the government has on space and you may have something. I think we have a winner.
Tomorrow- candidates prepare for "Loser Leaves Town Night" in St. Louis

Zen question...Every four years, someone claims to know the "true heart" of the elusive youth vote. But just because they're young, doesn't mean they will vote. And if this year is anything like cycles past, they won't bother to. So, if the youth don't vote- is there really even such a thing as a "youth vote?"
Sit on a straw mat in the lotus position for about three hours and ponder that one, grass hoppa!

How 'bout a clock embedded in Bhudda's Belly? That's convergence. Forget TV's embedded in cell phones.
I also have available- for a very limited time, a clock embedded in a hunk of laquored driftwood with a picture of Elvis on it.
Thanks to Zero Click, it's already on its way to you.

St. Pepper...if it was only released in 8-trackOSX is definitely a buy-a-new-Mac phenom. If you bought the Rhapsody BS in 1996/7 (as I did), you are SOL. If you want to keep your PPC hardware alive, Apple is not the company you want.
Comparisons to a sports car are interesting - the batmobile is more like it (you see, it must be shot undercranked for it is very slow). Sgt. Pepper... given initial reports, OSX reminds me more of Daikitanna

Star Wars games are good? I didn't get the memoI can't think of a single LucasArts purchase I didn't regret hours later. Dark Forces=clippy DoomII-era engine + zero story. It was a "Run. Shoot. Flip the switch." game in a time when most development companies had moved on.
I'm genuinely curious. Which of these games are supposed to be "good?"

Apple sues over Cubilinear formAlso, they plan to file suit against Florida lemon, blueberry, and strawbery growers.
Apple: The company that cares.
Maybe they'll sue Microsoft for making a slow, resource-hogging OS to compete with OSX (the beta of which is slow and requires ridiculous amount of resources).

Is it true? there are Windows zealots, too?The notion that a corporate entity would be interested enough in a dinky on-line poll to order a subsidiary to rig it is downright silly.
But, believe it or not, there really are Windows zealots out there. They post a call to action on a slashdot counterpart and bang! you've got a surprising change in results.
It's like the man said: Nothing breeds zealotry like zealotry.
