Re:PS2 keyboards
I'm a big fan of mechanical switch keyboards as well. I use an old Smith Corona mech switch model at home - strangely I've never found any mention, blurb, or picture of one of them online. I found the one I have at a thrift store for $0.99. The thing is built like a tank but has far less "extra space" around it than the IBM models (no wordperfect cheat-sheet stand on this one
:D). Only thing I DON'T like about it is that it has this coil cord that gets in the way compared to a straight one, and it doesn't have Windows keys which makes it a) a little more annoying to use on my Windows PC, and b) impossible to use on my Mac (even with USB adapter).
That being said, there are (at least for Macs) a few mech switch keyboards beying made with USB interfaces now: http://www.sforh.com/keyboards/tactile-pro.html
(at $184 for a keyboard it's expensive, but I'm still seriously eyeing this thing). -
Re:Didn't anyone think of RFID ?!?!
Actually, there are already hand held optical bill readers for the blind.

Re:Interesting
Actually since I got my (4G) iPod from Colorware, and they painted the clickwheel with the same paint as the rest of the case, it feels the same, but there is a slight gap between the wheel and the case to let you know which you are on. But the thing I think works best about the clickwheel is the clicking action itself. Think of the mouse (for lack of a better description) button on a laptop. Would you rather have it, or be forced to tap the touchpad to "click" on things? I like having a physical tactile response when pressing a button. It would be like trying to type on this. Highly unsatisfying, IMHO.

Foot pedals and eye-control
Everything from ergonomic keyboards and mice to foot pedals and eye-control:
Fentek Industries
Kinesis Corporation
AbilityHub
Solutions for Humans ... -
ERICA
I saw this http://www.sforh.com/pointing/headmouse-extreme.h
t ml demonstrated when I was at UVa just as it was about to go commercial. Probably better for severely diabled but very, very slick. They even had the test subject "typing" by looking at the keys on a virtual keyboard. Maybe a litle pricey, but if I can just master sleeping with my eyes open I might have to pick one of these up for the office... -
Keyboards
I find most desktop keyboards are subpar and almost all laptop keyboards to be horrible.
Here's what I use and as a sufferer of RSS, I highly recommend the Goldtouch keyboards
http://www.sforh.com/keyboards/split.html
I use one with my laptop and it is great. I have also had some luck with,
1) icing my wrists as there seems to be swelling,
2) having a chiropractor adjust the vertebrae between my shoulder blades as they tend to get screwed up by the leaning/hunching over as my RSS is in both hands and getting my wrist bones adjusted
3) using the split keyboard and an ergo mouse - original mouseman + (ball) which are hard to come by these days so I stocked up ;D -
Re:Someday soon ... like 2050I'm taking an entire brain-computer interface class this quarter. The website is
http://www.cs.washington.edu/education/courses/cs
e 599e/CurrentQtr/Click "schedule" on the left for slides. There was actually a presentation re: ECoG on April 24 and the slides should be up soon.
Also, a note about EEG. Poor resolution isn't the only problem - the muscles of the scalp and face actually can blow the brain signals out of the water quite easily. Some of the whiz-bang factor of EEG interfaces (remember the Mind Mouse? Good times. ) work because people train their eyebrows and scalp to flex, producing a much more pronounced reading.

Re:'Clicky' keyswitches -- for Macs
This keyboard uses mechanical keyswitchs instead of those cloddy membrane keyswitches in the Das Keyboard. In addition, it is a split keyboard with bigger keys for your pinky fingers, and the columns of keys are fanned out from your fingers instead of in parrallel rows.
Totally rocks. Mine is about 7 years old, nearly toast, but I can't find a decent other mechanical keyswitch keyboard to replace it with.
Mac compatible.

Keyboard you can use with gloves on!!How about a keyboard with HUGE keys so that you don't have to take off your gloves to type.

Re:Braile Monitor Relif Maps
Googling provided this. The device is rather pricey though.
