Re:Laser light show equipment suppliers

wait!
I have an idea this time! Before you automatically start trashing this article, READ IT!! still dont like it? go into preferences and filter it out! that easy!

What Journalists
Yes its a flame but seriously,
"I don't think I really agree with him, but it's an interesting read nonetheless. "
what is with all this commentary lately? like it or not you are journalists and its time to start acting like one
i doubt many people on the site care if you agree or not. lately every article has some ad lib by the poster. im worried how much more biased this site is getting. maybe start reading some real journalists' work and see how to separate reporting from op-ed pieces. please.

on behalf of the whole web development community i say THANK YOU! ahh, please let this catch on. lets get IE a little more compliant and i will be able to GASP work an 8 hour day once!

NEWS: cloning, genome, privacy, surveillance, and more! -
ahem..
if these are so obvious, why doesnt someone patent them in the name of "keeping them free?" its like, math formulas are easy and obvious once you read about them, try being the one figuring it out. not as obvious as it seems if you say you already have done it, then shit, patent it so no one else can

More views
Theres an "essay" on this topic here too. it stands out because its from a young guys viewpoint, and the discussions are also from high school aged people. interesting to see their view on it, and what they think should be done.

time to be responsible
"No clue if its real, but it sure looks like it might be. "
ya, who cares if its real, right? as long as it bashes microsoft we'll put it up! shit, i should write an article about microsoft being bad and get slashdotted.
come on people, you are journalists now.

its not just them
although i agree, dont single out the movies on this one. mandy moores management created some, as im sure did a lot of other bands. did you guys ever see the one pud from fuckedcompany made for himself? it used to be at pud.com but he took it down. kind of making fun of the whole thing im going to start making fansites for websites. "this page keeps you up to date on what is up to date on my site"

is it?
the story says "may have" yet the headline says it did. lets hear it for internet journalism...

dont support it
i have been using windows since i started with computers, use it now. i am an ASP, mssql etc programmer. However, i believe in the motto "you vote with every dollar you spend" (or in *nix's case, dont spend hehe) i have always been interesting in linux and open source, but never enough to do anything serious with it. however, i will not give in the xp bullshit. there is absolutely no reason i should not have complete control over my PERSONAL computer. so, my next upgrade will be to linux. welcome me aboard.

so?
why is this all of a sudden in the news? i (as im sure many of you) have done this for years
hehe, one time i tried it at gateway, got this loc'd out system for like $500, but the human in the process caught it
you know, i dont consider this stealing. i call it natural selection. WHY would you embed the price in the page? you know, i think you can afford mysql. i heard its cheap.

big deal, the navy already figured this one out. but what the article failed to mention is that the noises actually kill the dolphins. maybe theyd rather us not talk to them hehe the onion covers this one pretty well: Dolphin's Evolve Opposable Thumbs 'Oh Shit,' Says Humanity

im all for it...
i am glad to see this getting pushed, cause im sure as hell not strong enough to do it alone. the best way is server side (ie silicongod.com) but javascript is at least a good start. what makes this any different than the tv -> hdtv thats coming? except there if we dont switch, we get nothing. so why not do the same? as far as i can see, the only thing stopping most people is them not knowing how to upgrade. so as long as detailed directions are there, where is the prob? i will thouroughly enjoy paging a code ONCE.

lyrically at least
come on people, this topic has been covered by the almight 2 skinnee Js. go on napster or whatever and search for the song "pluto" by them. with a chorus like "pluuuuuuuuuuuuuuto is a plaaaaaaanet" how can you go wrong?

Re:Generally sillyness...
"I may be the only person who feels this way...but I still think that URL's (and top-level domains) are basically a hack. They're nothing more than a label for a TCP/IP address & port number. People take this stuff WAY too seriously. " that idea is great for techs, but what "average person" would hear "152.5.123.7:8080" and remember it, let alone be inspired to visit it? imagine a store that could only put its phone number on its sign, have no advertising outside the store, no windows... would you be inclined to call them and see what they do? didnt think so.

go around!
i have this problem as well. so i did the halfway solution. i wrote a simple script that iterates through the dynamic pages outputting them as static html files. these files are submitted to the search engines.
the problem is of course the pages end up getting old. no problem, add a little "this is an archived version of this page, please click here for the newest version" message. rerun the script when necessary.
i did this and was able to submit all my dynamic pages to altavista. what i also did was add an additional little "prev | next" link at the bottom, so a spider could start at one page and follow links to the end. i went further and created a hallway page to submit to altavista.
also, the pages are flat so they tend to load faster than dynamic ones.
check out the page i submitted to AV, and old archived page (contains the links prev|next links @ bottom, or the live homepage

even better, open source formulas. most drugs can be put in one pill, instead its diluted so they can sell you more. imagine core recipes being public knowledge...hmmm....
