Of course, I live in Canada and listen to CBC every day so maybe I don't count. -
Re:[Trolling Stones] I won't steer you wrong, budd
I'm glad you've asked me this question.
For a more detailed description of the problem, including pictures of the old cut vs. the new cutting method, and to sign an online petition:

What does the slashdot community as a whole think of this? Perhaps this should be the topic of the next poll. -
Bring Back the Classic Cut: a petition to Subway
Please refer to How Do You Like Your Buns? A Comparison of Two Sandwiches .
The Old Cut : This is what a sandwich should look like. Neat. Tidy. Perhaps a little spillage around the bottom, but that extra stuff is all good.
The New Cut : Look at it. It's disgusting. It looks like somebody gutted a muskrat.

No big movie of the summer?
I can't believe that he has the gall to say that there's not going to be a BIG movie of the summer, when Jay and Silent Bob Stike Back has yet to come to theaters. Screw all the rest of them...I am admittedly a *huge* Kevin Smith fan, and I think that this one is going to be his piece de resistance.
Unfortunately, he's also said it's going to be the last of his movies that features the dynamic duo of Jay and Silent Bob.

I'm sick of you damn crazy hippies complaining all the damn time. If you hate the oil companies, stop using their products.
Not a hippy, just a cynic :)

Re:sun powers the world
The fact is that fossil fuels and our current internal combustion engines are so inefficient that the big oil companies know that they'll be able to keep selling us lots of their product.
If we're talking solar or battery power, what kind of hold do they have on the consumer? Certainly not the perpetual one they do now, with our incredible dependence on gasoline and oil. Once the battery car is bought, or the house is outfitted with solar panels, the major corporation's job is over.
There's not even a remotely similar chance for recurring revenue in more efficient energy sources. And when you're all about making money, that's the bottom line.

Re:sun powers the world
Who are we kidding? As long as oil companies have the power and money that they do, alternative power sources will never come into their own. Think what would happen if suddenly a new technology became available and oil wasn't necessary anymore. Many *major* companies would find themselves in economic turmoil and that isn't something that those companies are ready to have happen just yet.
No matter how much better solar power, battery power, or natural gas power is, it's just not going to become prominent until some of the big players are good and ready for it to happen.

Re:The advert says...
But it's the *same* island as in "JP2: The Lost World"...and the *same* "monsters". The only thing that was different was the huge nasty with the fin.
Other than that, it's just: "Oh no a T-Rex, don't move! Its vision is based on movement." "Oh no, Raptors. They are smart, they set up us the trap".
You can only do this so many times before it becomes tried and boring, like JP3. Don't even bother going.

Playing CD's in my car
I don't know about anybody else, but I often come out of the store, and open the CD right there so I can play it in my car on the way home. If I *ever* find that I can't play a CD on my car's CD player because of this retarded attempt by Macrovision to reduce copyright infrigement, I can personally guarantee that I will *never* buy another CD again. It's just not worth my time or money.

Privacy concerns
I think the real issue here is who's holding onto your information. Would the privacy concerns be as great if it wasn't Microsoft (or some other equally malevolent corporation) doing it? I believe the concept is sound. It's just the intentions of our generous host that's in question. If there was a benevolent body willing to do this sort of thing, and *not* sell or trade any of people's private information, it wouldn't be such a big deal for them to have access to it.
I, for one, use the passport system (all my spam goes to my hotmail account :), and some of the web applications that Microsoft makes available for free are great. I'm not evangelizing Microsoft; far from it, I'm a die hard Slackware user :) But I do think that they do some good stuff. They make wicked awesome keyboards (not those small cursor key ones, the other ones).

Just like cell phones
For the same reason I abandonned my land line for a cell phone, I would be all over this. Why in the world would you want to be locked down to a particular location in order to use a phone or use the Internet?
As devices become smaller and smaller, this is going to be a much bigger deal. Even now, wouldn't it be cool (if it weren't so dorky) to whip out your laptop on the bus and browse web sites while you have nothing better to do?
Wireless Internet? I can't wait!

What are we coming to?
People like this shouldn't be arrested, they should be applauded. For example, without this guy's work Adobe would never be forced to do anything about their (obviously) shoddy protection on PDF files.

Home Theater
Until now, I was thinking of a front projection screen for my home theater, but this would blow it away (I hope)! Does anyone know the quality of this thing?

PCMCIA Slots in PDAs?
Whoops. Hit enter by accident on that last one :)
This sounds like the sort of thing we need for the ultimete PDAs of the future. Who cares about a 1GB hard drive when you can have a 5GB card that's *almost* as fast.

Re:The ultimate PDA
Yes! I also have great hopes for the Nokia Communicator. It's a cellphone that splits in half lengthways to reveal a 4096 color screen on one half and what looks like a full keyboard on the other. It's supposed to be available (according to the web site) in North America by 2002.

Re:Good thing?.....
I see your sarcasm, and I raise you more sarcasm:
I'm very interested in watching ripped DVD movies on my handheld. I still can't really do that with only a 1GB drive.
Seriously, how much power does a handheld have to have? I've made the same argument before about the games on Nokia phones...If you can't last the time you're between computers without playing some kind of game, perhaps a more powerful handheld isn't your biggest problem right now.

The ultimate PDA
What we really need is a PDA with the flexibility, openness and convenience of a Palm, the connectivity of a RIM Blackberry, and the ability to act as a cell phone to boot. Until I can stop carrying around 5 different electronic communication appliances, I'm not going to be happy
