What is Slashdot's Deal With SPOnG??
I submitted this story to Slashdot on Friday and on Tuesday, first just with the SPOnG.com story, then again on Tuesday with other sources.
The SPOnG story has feedback directly from Acclaim employees in the UK. Their forum on the story has a comment from an Acclaim employee that their pension contributions have not been payed since April!
Honestly, do the editors actually RTFA, or do they just see SPOnG and bin it? This is the 5th time I've submitted stories from SPOnG, just to have them appear on Slashdot days later, attributed to someone else, usually GamesIndustry.biz, who re-write SPOnG stories for their own front page.
What is up with this? -

Re:The real reason
I wonder if Nintendo is even making GBA's.
Original GBA production halted in June. -
What was wrong with my submission?
I submitted this story as a SPOnG Exclusive at 05/08/04 19:20 BST, over 15 hours before Gi.b had the story up.
Slashdot has a serious Gi.b bias, and they usually just nick stuff from SPOnG. -
Potential legal complications & MMORPGs
Interplay has had some really nasty financial troubles in the last year as well as coming up with a wacky idea to create a Fallout MMORPG.
It's not certain that Fallout 3 is the same as this MMORPG. In fact, I'd seriously doubt it given Bethesda Software's past games. More likely it'll be a fairly open Morrowind-style game, though that's a big guess on my part.
Finally, if Interplay does go under and the Fallout license is sold, this doesn't bode well for future plans. The next license holder may not share Bethesda Software's vision of what a Fallout game is. I think this is far from a sure thing. -
Re:The irony is not lost here...
I suspect that eurogamer might be under pressure to "big up" its hands-on review. I've heard from a couple journos at some respected magazines that prior to even getting a look at the game they have to agree to write Good Things(tm) about it. They've even written so much on this forum.
Were Reflection really part of "Pig noses"? I though that it and DMA were both simple developers that had titles published by the mighty Owl/Pig.
Reflection were of course formerly responsible for the graphically rich but gameplay-vapid "Shadow of the Beast"
As for Team17, I have it on very good authority that they are working on some very nive new stuff! -
Re:bad websitemore likely both: looks to me like a hastily written filter to prevent slashdotting
actually, the whole site returns the same error:Microsoft VBScript compilation error '800a03ee'
It looks like the real problem is that they are behind on their service packs for Site Server 3.0.
Expected ')'
/ncld/styleGuide.inc, line 98
inStr( hostIPs, ", 82.43.116.78" ) > 0 _
^CAUSE
When Rule Builder builds the rules file, it misconfigures the parenthesis in the condition.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, apply the latest Site Server 3.0 service pack.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Site Server version 3.0. This problem has been corrected in the latest U.S. service pack for Microsoft Site Server version 3.0. For information on obtaining the service pack, query on the following word in the Microsoft Knowledge Base (without the spaces):
S E R V P A C K
(that last line is great! -- even microsoft is into the latest technology in server load reduction!) -
bad websiteeither slashdotting or poorly written asp. either way, all i get from the link is:

Nokia's N-Gage mobile gaming device has been cracked
Posted by Dennis on 11 November 2003 - 14:50 - Source: SPOnG.com
Mr. Belvedere, our Club CD Freaks Moderator, used our news submit to tell us that Nokia's N-Gage device has been cracked according to this information. The Nokia N-Gage device is primarily a handheld gaming device but it can also be used as an MP3 player, wireless browser and last but not least as a telephone.
The games that were designed for the N-Gage will of course only work with the Nokia device but not anymore. Now that the security on the N-Gage has been cracked the games can be played on other mobile phones as well such as the Siemens SX1:
Nokia will today be licking its wounds and doing a fair amount of worrying, with the revelation that the N-Gage's security has been cracked like an egg, with other manufacturers' handsets able to play the machine's software.
Specifically, the Siemens SX1 is already capable of running N-Gage games, with Sonic N being the only game seen in public, though it's expected that the others won't be too far behind.
This is expected to be the start of a process that will see third-party hardware add-on sales of devices that will enable many phones to simply suck up the N-Gage content, then go on their merry way.
Nokia's reaction to this new, seemingly unforeseen problem, will be interesting to observe, to say the least.
Some screenshots and video's of the Siemens SX1 mobile phone running the Nokia N-Gage games can be found on Club-Siemens. More information on the hacked N-Gage can be read here and here.

Re:GTA4 where it belongswell, yes, i am a PS2 owner, and an X-Box owner, and a GC Owner. i'm thrilled that Rockstar understands what system made GTA Popular and is catering to it first.
as for the graphics, this isn't the only site that i get news from, Spong.com had a story just like this earlier this morning here that does mention that the X-Box's Vice City will be getting a higher polygon count, and therefore, better graphics. Spong.com is a VERY reputable gaming information site

You might have to stick with Nvidia. HL2 might be Nvidia only. Spong.com

Looks like Namco is out too...

Re:There's already a superior choice...
I love Coming Attractions for movie news, but the best place I have found for games is SPOnG they have excellent daily news. For example, they broke the story about Microsoft buying Rare!
The game reviews tend to be a bit flat, but the size of the content is fantastic and it's updated every day.
