Re:More news:
Some faggots are very, very gay, yes. However, there exists a certain breed of faggot that is even gayer than this. So gay infact, that words cannot describe such extreme homosexuality.

Why can geeks be so unhealthy? When you think of a *nix geek, how do you picture him? For me, it's one of two extremes: gangly and undernourished, or obese and unkempt. I know this is a horrible stereotype, but like all stereotypes, it has some basis in truth. My bias is justified, though, when I see pictures of some of the more famous geeks:
- Eric "esr" Raymond
- Richard "rms" Stallman
- ...even our own CowboyNeal
Are they unhealthy because they are geeks, or are they geeks because they are unhealthy? I venture to say that it is the latter. Let's face it, if you are unhealthy and/or unattractive, you are likely to develop a more introverted personality. That, by it's very nature, will estrange you from the public eye. Technology is a wonderful haven for people who are hiding from the general public, and as all of you know, the more time you spend with technology the more profecient you become, and the more likely you are to make a significant contribution to the public through it.
As an example, let me ask a question: Would Stephen Hawking have made the same advances if he had not been confined to a wheelchair and so severely disabled? He is one of my true heros, but he has since he has chosen not to give up and let his handicap destroy him, the only way he has to fight it is to use his mind--so that's what he does, constantly. I daresay that if he were not disabled, he would have spent more time in social situations, with family, etc., and would have had less time to explore the universe with his mind and report the results.
Unfortunately, under- and over-nourishment is dangerous, and a serious detriment to anyone's health. When this is the staple that geeks swear by, how can we expect to stay healthy?
What we need to realize is that, while we should praise the endeavours of geeks around us, and even those of ourselves, we should come to an awareness that our health needs to be our number one priority, regardless of our social status (ascribed or percieved). Personally, I've begun to work out on a daily basis (I gave up on gyms...get a Bowflex, they're worth the money, and it's yours to keep long after a gym membership has expired!), watch what I eat (lay off fried foods, cut back on caffiene, cut out most beef and pork), and get plenty of rest.
It may seem futile now, but a lifestyle altered for the better will likely extend your life for many years, and make those last years good ones. It's time to spread the word, but most of all, to heed it yourself. The following are some great books and articles with more information:
- An interview with a "fitness guru" on Fatgeeks.com.
- An eating guidebook by two computer geeks with a child and active careers.
- A website dedicated to "Yummy teen and geek nutrition...
- A discussion on Slashdot about this very subject.

Re:Leave it to the Americans ...
If you didn't already know, Slashdot is pro-communist site. Just look at the writings of Richard Stallman and the ideology the FSF tries to promote. This is why I troll on Slashdot, to save the naive first-time reader from getting caught in Slashdots pro-communist, homosexual Taco-snotting web. I find it odd that a true patriot would be able to achieve the +2 bonus on Slashdot. I assume that you also have the Stalin Medal of Global Brotherhood. Am I correct?

piracy ruined them
Since most open source fans now-a-days seem to embrace gnutella (and napster, etc) as their "fundamental right to pirate", what happened is that most of us pirated their games. And they went out of business. Is this actually a surprise? I justified copying their games because "they should have been GNU GPL and free" because "open source means freedom". Why dont you all ask RMS what his opinion on this is? Oh wait, I think I already know the answer, to make money from your software is "wrong". This troll speaks the truth, there is a fundamental flaw in the free software mentality.

Re:Borland C++...
Right-o. Why is it that Microsoft always takes the heat for proprietary software when Linux is just as proprietary? It only compiles on a compiler written by tree-hugging hippies. Go figure.
-
Re:XEmacs vs Borland C++Hi, Richard Stallman here. You are a fucking lamer idiot if you don't know all the features of emacs. Emacs is the best editor ever. If you don't have a use for every feature you're not qualified to be a programmer. Why? Cause I, Mighty Ruler of the GNU say so.
Now back to my regularly scheduled goat sex. Thank you and have a nice day.

Re:All right! If Microsoft put Windows 3.1 under the GPL, we'd run it.
:)Is that because the Win 3.1 GUI (circa 1992) is still better than that piece of shit you call X-Windows?
NEVER would I run an OS written by a "community" of 14-year-old-lifeless-with-nothing-better-to-do idiots who call themselves "programmers" and yet have no sense of logic. That applies to smelly GNU hippies too.
I spent my good time yesterday fixing a neighbor's computer cause that piece of shit LILO can't even write out a config file with consistent variable names!!! If you think text files are better than automated GUI configuration, you're a fucking idiot; there's no getting through to you.

Communists choose Linux? I'm shocked!!!Richard M. Stallman, ubiquitously known as "RMS", is the Patron Saint of the "open source" movement. "Open Source" is a method of software distribution which implements a means of copy protection by not distributing the final program codes. Instead, the user must assemble this final "executive" code by hand, thus eliminating the need for the proprietary data which must be included in a company-distributed copy.
This is all fine and good, in theory, and the Open Source movement has garnered a vast following from across the untamed corners of the internet. In this essay, I will explore how Mr. Stallman came to embrace this movement.
RMS was born in Modesto, California and attended Berkeley University [berkeley.edu]. This shouldn't surprise anyone, since Berkeley is the Liberal Hive [russia.ru] of America and RMS is an admitted [stallman.org] communist [www.jkl.fi]. RMS began his bizarre lifestyle while attending Berkeley, where he occupied the attic of a clock tower. This eccentricity continues today and RMS will not travel without a grandfather clock and a spitoon [warmann.org].
RMS' penchant for thievery was evident from the very beginning. His attic "apartment" was filled with equipment stolen from the Berkeley computer labs. This was quite an achievement in the early '70s, when any computer equipment was the size of a refrigerator.
RMS and his hacker friends cut class regularly, opting to spend their time and parent's money constructing illegal electronics devices designed to covertly access phone lines. The group of pirates would hack into the phone company, and charge enormous phone bills to unsuspecting Republican professors.
It was during this period that Stallman met Steve Jobs. RMS' technical savvy was far exceeded by that of Jobs and, never one to like being second-best, this caused him to pursue software hacking. RMS' hacking ability was innate and he and Jobs formed an alliance which would later result in the birth of Apple Computer.
Jobs' technical accumen was matched only by his ability to sell. He designed the internal electronics and outer package design of the first Apple, which was financed by Nolan Bushnell. He set RMS on to the task of developing the computer's "operating system" - a sequence of low-level MS-DOS commands which tell the computer how to decode program codes.
Though a gifted "coder", Stallman was quite lazy and didn't fare so well with the new operating system. His sloppy design and bloated codes were barely useable on the first microcomputer. Jobs dumped Stallman and hired John Wozniack to rewrite the internal operating system codes for the Apple I.
This situation didn't sit too well with RMS. Though he effectively dropped out of college, through non-attendance, he remained in the clock tower, unbeknownst to the faculty and administration of Berekely. His bizarre reclusiveness and tendency to "hack" only in the night kept him invisible to everyone, though rumors did circulate around campus about the "haunted clock-tower" and the deformed ghost that would occasionally appear, transluscent white, on top of the tower playing a magical flute [stallman.org].
Stallman grew sullen and withdrew into his own world in the clock tower. He watched as the joint Apple/Microsoft empire grew to become the computer industry and he vowed to topple it by undermining the livelyhood of his arch-rival Steve Jobs (and, by extension, Bill Gates) with his illegal offerings.
Stallman conspired with Linux Torvaledse, another Berkeley student, to create a hacker operating system which could be used to leverage the internet and wreak havoc on corporations everywhere. RMS even went so far as to use Microsoft's innovative GUI (Graphical User Implementation) which he had stolen from Microsoft's mainframe computer and given the hacker alias "X-Windows". Unfortunately, RMS was not able to acquire the latest Microsoft GUI codes and was thus forced to settle for an inferior version.
RMS' continued interest in communism provided him some insight as to how to spread his hacker tool across the internet. By stressing the free nature of the software, he would appeal to the welfare nature of the public.
This marketing scheme worked spectacularly. RMS' hacker tool is now installed on countless computers, hidden away in the dark bedrooms of LSD-using hacker teens [etext.org].
But Stallman didn't foresee the desire of the consuming public for Quality software, as opposed to his lean, second-rate offerings. Not even a price of 0.00 could turn the general public to installing this unwieldy hacker tool known as "Red Hat Linux".
Today, RMS and his following, consisting mostly of unpopular teens who gravitate toward the cult-like group of pirate hackers, continue to sing the praises of their "operating system". Neglecting to mention that it violates current DMCA legislation. This "operating system" is primarily used to trade illegal hacker "warez" and music videos.
Popular music stars like Metallica have called RMS and his hacker tool, "the single greatest threat to artistic expression in the history of man." And Bill Gates has noted, "They are all thieves. They spend their time stealing instead of innovating."
My hope is that this short essay has opened your eyes to the illegal Open Source movement and will give you pause when you may be enticed into downloading it, virus-like, into your unsuspecting computer.

His bizarre reclusiveness and tendency to "hack" only in the night kept him invisible to everyone, though rumors did circulate around campus about the "haunted clock-tower" and the deformed ghost that would occasionally appear, transluscent white, on top of the tower playing a magical flute.
RMS' hacker tool is now installed on countless computers, hidden away in the dark bedrooms of LSD-using hacker teens.

GIMP sure as hell can't do that... why don't you linux weenies just give up your little preaching on how open source is so great... not to mention... i'm not to crazy about having a guy who looks like this to lead this GNU/GPL/FSF "revolution"

Re:Darwin isn't enoughtheir continuing refusal to open the Sorensen codec
Yeah. And I really get pissed at RMS refusing to open the RealVideo codec.
Ummm... hate to tell you, but Apple doesn't own Sorensen. I believe it's owned by (da da da dum!) Sorensen. And yes, Apple has asked Sorensen at least to release a Linux binary, and they declined. Maybe it's time to ask again ("Mommy, Daddy, why do we celebrate Sorensen day?" "Because, honey, that's when we all gather round and ask Sorensen to release their codec for Linux so that the majority of the world can use it. Now be quiet, and eat your emacs pudding... if you wish hard enough, St. IGNUcius with give you Free-as-in-speech Gifts tonight under the CVS tree." )

sorry ... i'm an Anarchist.
I think the GNU GPL people fall more into the anarchist realm while the BSD style license developers fall under Marxism more..
GPL doesn't provide much benefit to the economy, and keeps the code in the hands of the programmers.
No one can take control w/ the GPL. Richard Stallman is an Anarchist
but it seems like he doesn't want to say it.
I don't blame him for not saying if he is or not though ... a lot of people seem to associate anarchy w/ complete disorder and chaos. Just read his website, and then go to a site like The Independent Media Centre, which many anarchist's read on a regular basis for unbiased news.
Plus, knowing the slashdot crowd, there would be more anti-Stallman flames if he admitted he was an anarchist. -
Re:Massachusets may be next!Shut up. There are plenty of "lobsters" (ripe young boys) in New Hampshire, as the so-called "lobstermen" will readily attest. New England is a fucking sick place.
Oh, wait -- you didn't think that lobstermen actually go out to the ocean in boats and catch lobsters, do you? That's pretty fucking ignorant. I'll bet you've never even been on the East Coast.
"Lobsterman" means the same thing in New Hampshire as it means in Maine and all over New England: hoary old NAMBLA members with beards and raincoats who divide their time between fucking kids and supporting union "labor." Maybe, on the farm where you were born, all words mean what they seem to, be we New England folks are sophisticated. Why, we even have a special word for loud-but-ineffective leftist homosexuals past their prime: "stallman." Just as lobstermen aren't "men who catch lobsters," stallmen aren't "men in stalls." Inceidentally, stallmen can often be found in public bathroom stalls, but that's just one of their many habitats. Stallmen tend to congregate around overrated educational institutions. Recently, stallman subcultures have developed in China and Slovenia. For more information on these annoying, filthy beasts, see the stallman homepage.

ASK SLASHDOT - Microsoft, Christmas Cheer
I've got a copy of Windows XP. Unfortunately I didn't really *buy* it per se. Since Slashdot is known for its hatred of Microsoft and its promotion of free (as in love) software, I figured this is the ideal forum to pose my question: Where can I get a crack for Windows XP? Since most Slashdot readers use Windows and only give lip service to Linux, I believe that this question will help out the majority of your readership. Not only that, but it will be a major blow against Microsoft and it will continue the glorification of Communism that many Open Source visionaries have championed.

What kind of aftershave do you prefer?Alan Cox <Alan.Cox@linux.org> responds...
"Technically, I don't use aftershave. I have quite a healthy beaver growing off of my face."
"However, me and the boys-- the young Open Source fans I like to take to the pub for a few pints and then back to my flat after they're dead-drunk-- like to eat each others' feces. I suppose you could then call the diarhea that gets caught up in my beard as aftershave, since I love its scent so well and leave it on all day."
Rob Malda (CmdrTaco) <malda@slashdot.org> responds...
"I usually prefer Hemos's semen. There's nothing like rubbing it all over my face, especially when it's nice and warm and fresh. Besides, what man can't resist that cum-odor? If I am lucky enough to be wearing Hemo's gunk, I notice I get hit on a lot mre at the bars I go to. What other afershave can make me a homosexual cock-lust faggot magnet?"
"Yeah, I definitely prefer Hemos's semen..."
ESR <esr@thyrsus.com> responds...
"I used to religiously wear a product called, ironically enough, 'Money.' I haven't been able to find any in a long while, even at VA Linux's bathouses. Who knows where it went?"
"Now I just count the Jägermeister I dribble on myself in drunken stupors as aftershave and leave it at that..."
evil_spork <evil_spork@hotmail.com> responds...
"After my usual nightly routine of smoking crack from a Tab can, snorting heroin off a dumpstered toilet seat, and being fucked by my dealer Rocco until i throw up cum, I usually bury my face in my pillow and cry for my mommy until the sun comes up."
"Then, before I go to work, Rocco rapes me in the mouth at gunpoint to see me off. I have a goatee, so it absorbs the scent of blood, jism, stomach acids, crack cocaine, Bounce dryer sheets, and man-musk. I work in a mailroom with a bunch of wetbacks so no one notices."
RMS <rms@stallman.org> responds...
"Ah, I wonder if you're mistaken... You see, I haven't shaved since the founding of the Free Software Foundation in 1984. I have no use for aftershave-- in fact, it looks like there's a God-damned baby goat surgically attached to my face. Some liken my beard to a giant vulva as well: hairy, with a stinking hole in the center."
"I have no use for aftershave..."
Steven Katros responds...
"I like cinnamon perfume, don't you?
"It's a special little scent that reminds me of cooking for friends, enjoying warm cidar and a good book on a cold Autumn day, and hot sex with cinnamon anus lube!"

MAD PROPZ TO ALL DEAD PENIS BIRDS!Nice FP!
You thought MS had sort of nazi-esque methods? Well, I will now, in this brief essay, reveal to you the hidden truth of Linux, an joint Finnish-German Nazi conspiration for revenge against the victors of WW2. Let's look at the evidence.
During the second World War, Finland was a close allied to the Third Reich, as is clearly illustrated by this photo of a finnish military aircraft. After the defeat of the Axis Powers, a revantionist urge abounds in both countries.
Linux was written by Finnish stuent Linus Thorvalds, a member of the small Swedish-speaking minority of Finland, well known for it's white supremacist tendencies. In this article Torvalds expresses his enthusiasm and admiration for the German-led KDE project. He also makes some unclear statements about the claims of Richard Stallman for calling the operating system GNU/Linux being invalid. Why is this? Obviously, the Nazi -and therefore Anti-Communist- Thorvalds here shows his support for his German allies against the Communist GNU and GNOME [gnome.org] projects.
But what does this hideous Nazi conspiracy want? We cannot, at this point, know. But what we do know, is that Nazies are up to no good. To stop them from achieving whichever horrible goals they hav in mind, I would strongly discourage any use of the Linux kernel or the KDE. Instead, I would recomend the use of a truly democratic operating system.
Thank You.

Accuracy
I thought a majority of web servers run a varient of linux
The majority run systems that are POSIX compliant. This tends to be a problem to people who are new to Linux, or for whom that Linux was their gateway OS. BSD, the most popular general brand of POSIX compliant systems, came over a decade before Linux and therefore cannot be as a Linux variant. The fact that most applications compiled for Solaris don't run on Linux should be a sign that Solaris isn't exactly a variant on Linux. You can only call an OS a variant of Linux if the actual Linux kernel is involved, as that is the only part of the GNU/Linux operating systems that can be referred to as just "linux."
There are two sets of POSIX standards: The first was the original "theoretical model" of what a multi-user OS should be like, and the latter was formed after a long time of seeing how such systems evolved and where they were lacking. It's understandable for people who have just started using Linux to put all of POSIX systems under that name, and even more so for those that have no experience on any POSIX system, but it is something that people should learn and understand. It's just as offensive for a BSD developer to be told that, say, OpenBSD is just another version of Linux as it is for me to write to Dickie Stallman, "Hey man, I hear you're a hacker; it's jackasses like you that keep cracking my server and I demand reperation!"

GNUArt !> But is a license intended for software a
good starting point for a license for music?
Yes.
We, at GNUArt, directly use the GPL to protect Art.
After discussing it with RMS, we agreed it would be possible:
- The art to be protected is considered in a virtual, infinitely copiable form
- The source code of art is clearly defined as "whichever information needed by another artist to modify the original"
Lots of artists trust us, just browse our gallery for free "GNU" Art... -

Monitoring your kids heroin usage, gun usage, etcThe article totally missed the point. Any parent irresponsible enough to allow a kid to surf the net either accompanied by an adult, or solo is simply an unfit parent.
If I allowed my kid to take heroin, the authorities would quite rightly lock me up and take my child away. Likewise if I allowed my kid to play around with my semi-automatic rifles the same thing would happen. It should be the same for the Internet.
The Internet is primarily a source of porn for maladjusted socially inept males. It has a secondary use as an information resource, but let us not forget, over 74% of downloads and over 80% of net traffic is porn related.
Now I am not going to argue that porn is wrong. (Although I do believe that only warped and sick individuals would seek to degrade God's gift to mankind by commercializing it). I am just going to say that to a developing mind, seeing pictures like those often found on this website cannot be a force for good.
A famous rabbi once described TV as like having an open sewage pipe pouring into your living room.
The Internet is like having the whole sewage works. I mean why would a child be looking at depraved debased unamerican and unChristian sites such as this one or this or most sickeningly of all this?
The answer is to make it a federal offense for a parent to allow a minor in his/her care to access the Internet. Its the only way we can continue the war on porn, and save our children from images such as this.
Normally I would not advocate such extreme measures, but if just one child is saved from viewing pornography such as above, it will be worth whatever minor freedoms we would have to give up. -
Re:the real question...
Whenever I see rms I think "root mean squared" from my days doing statistics in psychology. What do other folks think when they see RMS (or rms)? Oh, I mean, what do people think besides Richard M. Stallman? This isn't a question out of disrespect. It is question that digs into how people think, and categorize and use TLAs.

Re:DrivelI stopped reading here. I see where this is going. Trollsville USA!
Oh, that's crap. As I understand it, one way to troll is to completely go off the handle without bothering to address the substance of what you're objecting to. From that vantage, I don't see how "This argument is crap and I stopped reading" is any less trollish than unloading on RMS and his penchant for insisting that others follow his semantics. People are allowed to think that RMS's opinions are wrong. They are allowed to say so in very strong (even offensive) terms, and simply doing so doesn't make them trolls.
More to the point, if you'd read the entire article you would have hit some interesting stuff. While a good part of it is tiresome KDE vs. Ximian Gnome partisanship, there's also a perfectly reasonable call for the FSF to release information on their finances.
Point is, just screaming "troll" isn't a good enough argument against Powell's article. It fails to contest, for example, Powell's claim that
it is absolutely undeniable that the FSF has thrown its support behind a desktop controlled by two for-profit companies, one of which has an officer who sits on the FSF's board; the same company has purchased advertising aimed at confounding those who are seeking a desktop that is truly free in every rational sense of the word; and the other company has suggested that users can assist its product in surviving but help it avoid paying its bills by donating to the Free Software Foundation, or else an officer of that company has flung down and danced upon his fiduciary responsibilities by saying, in a communication that is part of his corporate function, that people might want to send money to the FSF instead of the company.
I mean, when you look at it that way, it reeks. If the FSF wants to represent the interest of hackers and geeks in the public sphere, I think it's perfectly reasonable that us hackers and geeks call them when they're out of line (or, as is the case here, when there's enough going on to make them look like they're out of line). Just because they're not the RIAA doesn't mean they're saints. If they're not doing anything wrong, the only thing releasing information would do is completely exhonorate them.
Lastly, let's not forget that they're a Foundation, not an individual. Organizations, whether foundations or corporations, can't (or at least, shouldn't be allowed to) claim the same rights as individuals.
Before you go off on me, here's my line of thinking: if you give an organization the same rights as an individual, the organization will have greater rights in a de facto sense. They have resources (time, money, personnel, etc.) to fight when their rights are infringed that individuals simply don't have. I mean, I don't have a legal team to fight for me when I say something that pisses someone off and they take me to court, but major corporations and organizations do. They, by entension, have more real free speech than I do simply because they can defend what they say and I can't -- this holds true even though we technically have the same rights.
The US Supreme Court made a huge mistake when it decided that corporations have personhood. Extending that outward, I think we have every right to see the finances of a corporation or organization, and every right to want to see them when that organization claims to represent us. It's always a good idea to be a little wary of anyone who claims to speak for anyone else, even if they're the FSF, even if they're right most of the time. Just because everything they did yesterday was good doesn't mean we can assume everything they're doing today is all peaches.

Famous Spindl3top Conspiracies
Actually, we weren't slagged so badly last time... at least nothing that I wouldn't have said if I couldn't check out the site and see what was going on these days (it is obviously a lot different from the googlecached stuff from six months ago).. The "+4 conspiracy post" was just a part-time spork-wielding goatrapist pictured here (don't click that unless you want your eyes to pop out) whom we pissed off by voting down his article on K5. At that time, he had created an 17-page, intricate conspiracy theory about an organization that had a net profit of about $400 and one employee (me). I think it's funny, actually.
But, alas that is over... I actually lost a lot of money because I tried to put my efforts into too many profitless free-software things. We really wanted to go nonprofit but the costs and time needed in doing it otherwise, however, were so damn high that I had to bite my lip and figure out how to manually dissolve a company, how to form an organization, what is expected of a nonprofit, how to publish our accounting data for the public to see, etc. Reading IRS forms is not fun.
I'm surprised Flatpack (aka Spiers from K5) was modded up to +4... Why? Well, he forgot the other things that our notorious organization has done:
- racketeering in local LUGs and, at gunpoint, forcing users to do a full install of Debian GNU/Linux from a crate of 3.5" floppies.
- the unpublishably disgusting and controversial murder of Geekizoid founder, Scott "Vlad" Lockwood.
- gluttonous consumption of caffeine and
... and asking Matt Szulik of RedHat to feel our warm Bawls. - faking the suicide of CowboyNeal and Inoshiro caused by the depression from being in one too many questionable polls.
- a fanatical devotion to old Nintendo games with Engrishy dialogue and a catchy theme song.
- extortion stemming from stealing RMS' hippie flute so that he couldn't play music to his servers anymore. This was insanely scandalous, as the GNU servers crashed continually afterward.
- incorporation of incantations to Bob Saget within the kernel source.
Anyway, that's my 2c... don't read into it too much or anything. Let's be real... like any geeky club, the aim is just to have fun, build cool stuff, hack free software, chill out, and not give a fsck. It's cool like dat.. and anyone is welcome.

Re:Cracker SchmackerExactly. It's just like RMS's claim that Linux should be called "GNU/Linux". Whether or not he is technically correct (he is) is really beside the point. Language, at its core, is fundamentally driven by communal interaction, which means that one person (or one group in the context of a larger, pluralistic whole) simply does not have the power to dictate the meaning of words.
This isn't to say that among certain circles you can't sustain the difference between "hacker" and "cracker" or "Linux" and "GNU/Linux", but it does mean that your power to do so is really, really limited. And, hacker prejudice aside, don't the folks who break things have just as much right to choose their name as the folks who build things?

FSF vs. "Open Source"
. . . the FSF sided with Microsoft and put a ban down on porting GNU to Apple OSes.
This comes as no surprise.
Richard Stallman is a man of firm principle and unshakable conviction. Some of his convictions are clearly insane, but others -- such as his belief in the Free Market -- are not. In any case, I feel a great kinship with a man who will not under any circumstances compromise his principles.
The "Open Source" movement, by contrast, is purely pragmatic. Pragmatism is dangerous: By definition, the pragmatist believes that the end justifies the means. This is the moral and intellectual pit that the "Open Source" "movement" has fallen into. This is why they support Apple and IBM: It's convenient. It seems momentarily advantageous.
THEY ARE COMPLETELY AMORAL.
You can't trust amoral people. A man with his eye only on the main chance will sell out his supporters in a heartbeat.
Don't say I didn't warn you.

Free Software has a cost.
I guess only time will tell if the use of Free Software is as much an economic advantage as people have been making it out to be.
Free Software has a cost. That cost is the risk of your IP if you are not careful.
Look at how Corel 1 and 2 had trouble 'getting it right' The risk to Corel is great enough vs the profit potentional, they are trying to sell off the Linux version they make. Free Software is not worth it.
Open Source software (something the most visable supporter of Free Software RMS wants to not be associated with. The Open Source Movement -- I do not support it.) *CAN* protect your IP. Understanding HOW you can have protection for your hard work AND work with Open Source software is the key to protecting your IP.
Free Software wants to destroy IP. IP is the backbone of the information economy. Free Software does *NOT* have an economic advantage when it comes to IP. Open Source software *CAN* provide IP protection and therefore economic advantage.
