Kentucky passing that? HA!
This is the same state to bring you House Resolution 256:
http://www.lrc.state.ky.us/recarch/02rs/HR256.htm
encouraging the commandeering a nuclear sub to patrol the Ohio and sink Indiana's casino boats.
It wasn't passed, and neither are 90%+ of the bills and resolutions brought before Frankfort, the vast majority truly serious, well-intended legislation. If the teacher bill gets introduced the next four years in a row... then someone will take it seriously. You've got to lubricate the machinery of politics frequently to keep it running at all, and I hear that things will run much more smoothly if you use Federal Reserve branded paper. -
Re:Kentucky...
Education Pays logo for anyone who is interested.
However, the current Kentucky - Unbridled Spirit logo came out the summer of 2005 (if I recall correctly). -
Re:Privacy Rights?The Supreme Court (5 to 4) thought otherwise.
Here is a quote from Scalia writing for the majority:
"We think that obtaining by sense-enhancing technology any information regarding the interior of the home that could not otherwise have been obtained without physical `intrusion into a constitutionally protected area,'...constitutes a search at least where (as here) the technology in question is not in general public use. This assures preservation of that degree of privacy against government that existed when the Fourth Amendment was adopted. On the basis of this criterion, the information obtained by the thermal imager in this case was the product of a search."

Doesn't this fly in the face of States Sovereignty
I know many States have Constitutions of their own http://www.lrc.state.ky.us/Legresou/Constitu/list
1 .htm , ad We are a United Nation of Sovereign States, so Doesn't this fly in the face of each States Rights to rule themselves? I do not pretend to be a Constitutional Scholar, but this just seems to be (SO WRONG) on so many levels it isn't funny. -
Re:What are legitimate usesOh, for fucks sake, it's NOT stealing.
The law says it is, regardless of how vociferously you object. Legally speaking it is theft, or to be more specific, theft of services, and is a felony in many states, usually depending on the dollar value of the services that have been stolen. New Jersey law. Pennsylvania law. Kentucky law. And so forth.

Parent -1 uninformative
Sorry, but that story is really old.
Here is a story about the appeal to the US Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court decision was as close and conflict-ridden as nine justices can get: 5 to 4 against Andrade and upholding the three strikes law.
Three strikes is really evil, and needs to be repealed. It's a lot like the rockafeller law in New York.
It also still amazes me that we are the only democracy that executes kids. In fact we join only Iran, Nigeria, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Yemen in the practice. -
Letter from Miss Moffet Humpkins to Pastor Ben
Lately, kind sir, I have been quite perturbed by certain events that have been proliferating in our society. Was it not so long ago, that in more civilized times, children respected and obeyed their parents, under the threat of a firm thrashing if their impudence and audacity got out of hand? But oh, kind father, the trials that parents today must suffer! Not just the other day, whist I was dining upon a fresh garden salad, my daughter, of not even 6 years old, insisted upon uprooting most unrest in requesting I purchase for her a milky-way bar! I quickly remarked to the impudent creature that one of our many servants would be more than willing to carriage her to the local general store; but no! she insisted that I -personally- drive the buggy to make the purchase! Oh wise man of God, what is a poor woman to do in these hard times! Before you can open your Moses-lovin' mouth Pastor, I have proposed a final solution to the problem of "youthful indiscretion"- Prison Labor!
Before you bring up cries of protest from your liberalism-saturated mind, hear me out! Our disrespectful children will learn the true meaning of honor and sacrifice while they're hard at work pounding license plates and assembling adding machines! Honestly, what better way is there to whip our children into shape? Scare them with threats of the boogey-man? Psh-haw! Just look at the wondrous effects prison labor had on the Dell kid! Not only will prison labor harden our children into obedient automatons, it will show them the reality they will have to face if they follow their current paths and become criminals!
Thank you for your attention kind Minister, and God-Bless! -

Kentucky
Here

I don't live in KY (thank god) but there has been some good reports so far. -
Re:Indiana is trying at least.
Kentucky just passed a similar law. You can even sign-up for the no call list online. It goes into effect in mid-July.
Unfortunately, there are some exceptions to the No-Call list, including:
3. Calls from businesses with whom you have a prior or existing relationship;
Which rules out the annoying Verizon DSL calls I'm getting now because I use them for local phone service. Two or three times each month they call to offer me DSL service that I'm already getting from them. -
Somebody tell Kentucky! They WANT one..
Some things you can't make up. From the Kentucky Legislature site.. "Encourage the purchase of a submarine to patrol the waters of the Commonwealth and search and destroy all casino riverboats".
You can see it at the Kentucky Legislature site HR 256 Maybe they can take the casino high rollers for rides in it after destroying the casino riverboats. -
Quick! Somebody give Kentucky a call!
This is just what they're looking for!
-
I've been wondering
So tell me... What makes more sense? The CBDTPA? or this?

Re:Federal?
Criminal Courts involve the State (one of the 50, or the United States) vs. an individual. There is a prosecutor and a defendant.
Criminal courts can also involve Commonwealths, of which there are 4, not just States (46). For instance, if you were in Kentucky, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, or Virginia, your case would be known as Commonwealth of KY/MA/PA/VA v. Joe Schmoe. Everywhere else, it's The People of the State of California v. John Doe.
One example of the status of Commonwealth for these four states was one famous case in the 1920s: Commonwealth of Massachusetts v. Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti.
I know it's nitpicky, but I just felt like pointing that out.

UETA == UCITA ??A search of Kentucky's legislative record turned up House Bill 571, the Uniform Electronix Transactions Act. I wonder if this is the same as the UCITA? Can anyone advise?
My local state senator is probably one of the most likely to be receptive to our concerns (this is just a guess -- he is, however, the most progressive member of the legislature and I have contributed cash to his campaign in the past)....
