Re:Funny story...
And then there is this incident where the guy got the scammer to pay DHL thousands in shipping costs before he caught on to what was going on.

Re:Good for her!
I tried to scam some scammers once, for far less money. I can definitely see how that would feel like a huge triumph.
Obligatory scam baiters link: http://www.thescambaiter.com/
These guys have turned scamming the scammers into an art form.

Re:Hmm...
Some people are already doing things like that, but they don't try to profit from it. Why not join in on the fun.

Re: Try scambaiting.
For the ultimate thrill and hundreds of death threats, try pulling a few freight baits and get a scam gang to pay thousands of dollars for trash and insults.

This guy lost count of the death threats.
;-)
He has an ax to grind after the loss of $4,000 due to a bounced check. He grinds them well.
If you wondered about all those scam emails, this is the place to see how they all work.
Fake checks, Auction site scams (seller beware), apartment rental scams, it's all there.Baiting scammers is a great hobby. Collect trophys, bust bank accounts, collect fake checks and more.

Re:Scammers Scammed
Check out The Scam Baiter. There's a guy there that sends useless computers to scammers and makes them pay for the shipping.

TheScamBaiter is still up
TheScamBaiter.com has been under attack for several days too, but has stayed up so far.

The tragedy of the commons
This is the tragedy of the commons, my friends. A small percentage of asshats ruin it for the rest of us. The law enforcement agencies are either unable or unwilling to help, so it's all up to us.
When you have 5 minutes, go help out groups like Phishtank, Akismet, SpamVampire, etc. -
The saga of Cole and the Anus Laptops
I dunno...I find the saga of Cole and the Anus Laptops (warning: NSFW) to be more entertaining.
This guy has been on the hook for over a year now, always scrounging up the money to pay shipping for what he thinks is a load of laptop computers (paid for with a stolen credit card, way back when), but is actually a box full of broken crap.
After the first few freight baits, the baiter resorts to sending broken appliances with Photoshopped pictures of the scammer pasted all over them...and Cole is still willing to pony up for the next shipment!
They're now on their tenth go, amazingly enough. -
Re:LevonoI was thinking maybe he should try the install on an Anus laptop, as a worst-case scenario:
Though I hear actually ordering one can be rather difficult:

Other ways to fight back
Spam vampire - sap the bandwidth of spamming web sites. Copy and paste the urls from the spam you receive into the config file (make sure to check them first), or just pick someone elses below. Leave it on all day.

Oh, and for you pussies that think fighting fire with fire is wrong, you can kiss our asses. They probably smell better than what is in your inbox anyway. -
Re:Some revenge possible?
> So, what if you enter a random number with random PIN.
Actually there is a website out there that looked into one of these for Chase Bank in the past several weeks:
http://www.thescambaiter.com/forum/showthread.php? t=6697
The number would only accept "valid format" numbers or the call would be ended. It also featured a horrendous computer-generated and obviously fake greeting.
One guy on that site managed to build an automated randomized seeder once he figured out what a "valid format" card type was. Pretty impressive actually! :)
Phishers are scum. I hope they catch these ones.

Re:Honestly the best site regarding 419 scammers
Also, TheScamBaiter.com (possibly NSFW) is quite good. It's run by the fellow who ran the Anus Laptops bait that was posted here a while back.

Interesting and funny read
I came across this on a forum dedicated to exposing 419 scams a few months back, and though it's not one of those emails promising riches (it's an eBay scam), it's still relevant. It's extremely funny, but it also shows the lengths to which they will go to get your money, including threats. http://www.thescambaiter.com/forum/showthread.php

Revenge on a scammer (priceless)The first time I read this, I nearly shat myself because it was so funny.
It's the story of a man who is targeted by Nigerian scammers but gets revenge on them and actually screws them out of some money. The whole thing takes place over several months and includes pictures, audio recordings of phone conversations, email correspondence and other stuff.
It's quite long, but worth a read if you have the time.

Good Site, but there are others
Scamoramma and theScamBaiter are 2 more sites that fight these crooks.
the guys at http://thescambaiter/com/forum have made this 1 nigerian spend almost $30,000 in shipping costs because he shipped him heavt equipment like washing macines and clothes dryers.
read about it here:

You'll have to register, but its the fuinniest thing I have ever read.
