What about URL shortening services?
I've always wondered why we don't see more phishing attacks with URL shortening services. Why not just tweet "Hey check out the pictures of my latest vacation at my picasaweb page"? I don't think forcing users to install yet another plugin which checks out the tinyurl link as there's more than enough companies that do shorten URLs to make this plugin be yet another one which has to have to phone home to get updates...

Re:It depends...
The measure of a man's true honor is what he would do if he knew he would not be caught.Did you just make that up? That goes in my list of favorite quotes from the internet.
No he didn't make it up. The sentiment goes back to the ancient Greeks (see Plato on ethics).
Still undetermined is what the measure of a woman or child's true honor may be.

Another possibility...
Have you considered trying a bunch of these?

Re:So?
Well, now we know where you live, we already knew where you work. Hell, we even know what you look like. How hard would it be for someone to, say, hire a boat on Barberton Reservoir, run in while you are at work and smash your front window, grab whatever looks expensive and run back to the boat for a quick getaway? It looks like the neighbours don't have much visibility of your house, so it's probably not that hard....

Re:THIS is how you get "infinite" battery life
Not the same thing. TFA doesn't mention it, but this is an amazingly powerful processor for its tiny size and low power consumption; it even has a 8-core GPU built in.

Same with Britain's DNA database, cops just wanted people on it, so they did what was needed to get people on it.

The NYPD seems to take an interest in your cell phone battery, and gets to note International Mobile Equipment Identity number.
Now the feds want to track you 'in the past'.
Adamo Bove, head of security at Telecom Italia showed what can be done with this tech via mapping out the CIA rendition in Italy in court. He later 'fell' to his death.
This tech works and now its been turned onto you with very limited court oversight.
Dump your phone after the first call, meet in public, in a pool/ocean.
If its mobile communications your gov was all over it from inception - its just getting more legal to use it. -

Re:It would be a violation of human rights when:
Hi Chris !
This is your friend again.
I noticed your exchange:
You seem to forget that Germany has an outstanding education system and thinking you can educate your kids better is well...
Factual.
Your statement could be false if your definition of "better" disagrees with that of santax.
I can also confirm that I find your response to santax to be illogical.
I could even go so far as to speculate that you suspect or know that your definition of "better" differs from that of santax, in which case I would speculate that your response tends toward falsehood in its intent.
In any case, I wonder why you made that response.
Do you wonder?

Awesome reply.
I found out that Cardinal Law and the Boston Archdiocese, the moral compass of the Catholic society in Boston was covering up molestation cases for years. Also, that thousand cases of molestation in Ireland went unreported for years.

Re:Talking to one of those who worked on the case.
there was a ton of computer history contained in those files.
Indeed! There're many interesting bits in these emails that explain quite well some of the things we suffer every day.
"One things I find myself wondering about is whether we shouldn't try and make the "ACPI" extensions somehow Windows specific. It seems unfortunate if we do this work and get our partners to do the work and the result is that Linux works great without having to do the work. Maybe there is no way to avoid this problem but it does bother me. Maybe we could define the APIs so that they work well with NT and not the others even if they are open. Or maybe we could patent something related to this" - Bill Gates
"One thing we have got to change in our strategy - allowing Office documents to be rendered well by others people browser is one of the most destructive things we could do to the company. We have to stop putting any effort into this and make sure that Office documents very well depends on PROPIETARY IE capabilities" - Bill Gates

Re:They do?
I quite like the fact that with http://tinyurl.com/ I can set a cookie that will always take me to tinyurl itself and show me what the shortened link redirects to before actually following the redirect. This would be much harder to do without a database driven system, and a good database structure results in faster lookups than most filesystems anyway.

Re:Wouldn't be necessary if...
That is why tinurl has a preview: http://tinyurl.com/preview.php
You could argue wether this should be on or of by standard, but it is good that you have the ability to make your own choice. -
Preview url
Most of the time I cross such a shortened url, I want to see the full url before the redirect is completed. Tinyurl's preview option let me do that, without an account/login, it just saves the setting in a cookie.
Bit.ly has a Firefox plugin to preview urls, but I don't want to install a browser plugin for each service. And what if I'm using another browser?
I'm hoping Google will implement something similar to Tinyurl's system.

Re:HM
I recommend not using tinyurl for links on slashdot.
No one wants to be tricked into viewing goatse.Tinyurl has its uses, for instance on Slashdot where your complex/malformed url can be expected to be mangled by a filter.
If you're not yet immune to goatse you can visit this page (I see the irony, it's actually a php page at tinyurl.com itself, copy & paste http://tinyurl.com/preview.php if you prefer) and enable a handy url-preview. I presume that they use a cookie, so keep your tinfoil hat on.

Re:Why are you still talking?
As an aside I have also heard that this Mayan 2012 prediction is all buffoonery. They Mayans thought their the world would end just like we think the world ends after December. It was their calender for keeping track of time. I think it was implied that you just restart the calender once the cycle is over. Perhaps it is so implisit that they didn't feel the need to explain this just the same we don't put a sticker on every calender we ever make that says "Not to worry, world not ending, new calender next year!"
Actually, the Mayans believed in a ~25,000 year cycle, divided into 5 epochs of ~5000 years. The current Mayan epoch ends in December 2012. Given that Mayan civilisation effectively collapsed in the 1600s, they were probably waiting until it got closer to the date to draw up a new calendar for the new epoch closer to the end of the current one.
It should be said though, that the Mayans believed that the next epoch would be *very* different to the current one. The basis for this assertion is as yet undetermined, but to the previous poster who ridiculed Mayan civilisation, the Mayans were very capable astronomers and mathematicians. One only needs to look at the engineering of Mayan temples, aligned perfectly to either solar events or astronomical bodies to know that they were no amateurs.
Have a look for 2012: Science or Superstition. It's about 90 minutes long, contains about 8 minutes of science, and 82 minutes of superstition, but the 8 minutes of science is very interesting, and much more worthwhile of debate than skygodders who panic after seeing a movie.
