Re:Fast!
Actually, it still is quite fast. Nobody wants to risk further damage to the machine just to get the first data in a few months earlier. Ok, except maybe for a few grad students and post docs whose time is running out...

Re:Amazon MP3
Try out Amazon MP3.
It's cheap, DRM-less, and easy. Plus, it runs on Linux just fine (32-bit has packages, force it on 64-bit, use getlibs, and it works fine).

Yeah, it works. When you are in US.

Re:Let' see how fast they will run out of customer
It is an ongoing process and some issues like jury nullification had original constitutional protection, and others are simply state laws. Some like the Senate filibuster are purely administrative. Almost all were started after 1880.
I would only include issues that I believe weaken the traditional political power of the average U.S. citizen. It is not something that everyone would agree on. One exception that should be memtioned is that the history of popular sovereignty in the U.S. does show an ever increasing franchise, although with a continued erosion of the power of that franchise To put it another way, the franchised citizenry as a group has far less political power relative to the government today than they would have had prior to in say 1880 or earlier.
If it had been dramatic change it would be better known. It's not something that has a specific date.
The following web site contains some additional information. Other issues like effective "corporate personhood," or judicial interpretations of "money as freedom of speech" I am less familiar with.

True! You could also mention that compared to the nature of U.S. government, Ireland's form of government is relatively democratic. For one thing, they don't equate money with freedom of speech.
In my experience there is a small, but significant, number of people in the U.S.that are naive enough to look to the U.S. Supreme court to defend the peoples "rights." That is not all that different from believing that the Communist party in the USSR would create a workers paradise.

When U.S. "republicans" claim that the U.S. is not a democracy they make a good point, but they always fail to mention that our people's "republic" apparently died about a 100 years ago!

Who do you think you are? Adam Smith?
Consumption is the sole end and purpose of all production; and the interest of the producer ought to be attended to only so far as it may be necessary for promoting that of the consumer. The maxim is so perfectly self evident that it would be absurd to attempt to prove it. But in the mercantile system the interest of the consumer is almost constantly sacrificed to that of the producer; and it seems to consider production, and not consumption, as the ultimate end and object of all industry and commerce.
Everybody knows Adam Smith was a damm Socialist. Neo-Liberalism is in!

Competition is great! Now if we only had a multi-party system, think how many more likable politicians we could have. When U.S. voters purchase their political power, they have limited product availability and that of a very low quality indeed!

Naomi Wolf
Didn't Naomi Wolf, author of The End of America: Letter of Warning to a Young Patriot say that she had significant evidence that she was being bugged and her mail being intercepted? I distinctly recall hearing her say this at the Revolution March in DC on July 12, 2008.
I think I got it on video--I'll have to find the video tonight and put it on YouTube.

Re:Leader is the #1 on the line
"If someone pointed a gun at your head and threatened to pull the trigger if you refused to sign a document you knew would lead to a hundred deaths (and you signed!), would that make you ultimately responsible?"
Yes, you are responsible for that what you sign.
The signature is valid as it would be on court. You should always check what you actually sign. If you do not agree with what you are signing, then you do not sign it. It is simple as that.

"A landed interest, a manufacturing interest, a mercantile interest, a moneyed interest, with many lesser interests, grow up of necessity in civilized nations, and divide them into different classes, actuated by different sentiments and views. The regulation of these various and interfering interests forms the principal task of modern legislation, and involves the spirit of party and faction in the necessary and ordinary operation of government." Wage interests are not mentioned, because, to use the common phrase of the time, "people who earn their bread from their employer," did not have the vote. Working white males didn't fully gain the right to vote until around 1830.

Re:Wow
Too true -- I've been a CPA for years and, literally, as I was just about to write this comment, a young co-worker came up to me and asked if I had a calculator since he wanted to check numbers on a spreadsheet.
Needless to say, I explained to him that it's certainly possible for a spreadsheet to obfuscate its meaning and "miscalculate" a value, simply recalculating the values on a "virgin" spreadsheet (ideally in a new instance of excel) is superior than checking by hand. (Full Disclosure: didn't use the words obfuscate and instance with him as virtually no accountants would know them)
There's frighteningly still a market for paper-tape based calculators (they cost a lot more than you'd think) for, primarily, older accountants who want everything on a tape total. See how expensive some of the items here are.
I've had supervisors require me to type many values into a single cell as opposed to splitting them across cells just because "that's the way it was done before".
Be wary of most accountants, there's a reason it's not offered as a major at top schools -- having brains in the field is more often a detriment than a benefit.

The main thing is you can take regular backups of your exchange server. It is not so easy to backup GMail.
Aside from the fact that Google presumably keeps backups, and you're generally not deleting email in the first place, I don't see how it's easier to back up exchange server than Gmail.
