Re:Apple
That's for the phone itself. The icons are round so the workers inside the phone can't slash their wrists.

Re:MS love to be gatekeepers: This is a HUGE gate
Well considering the fact that MSFT spends over 5 billion a year on R&D, with very little to show for it in the way of actual products hitting shelves, it would be nice if they actually had something to show for all that cash spent.
I mean I can understand completely why MSFT shareholders aren't too happy with them right now. All that cash blown and the stock has pretty much been flatline for the better part of a decade while Apple and Google exploded. The last thing I remember coming out of MSFT R&D was that PC table (surface I believe its called) and I know it reminds me of something...hmmm....where did I see an idea like that? Oh yeah a Disney movie from 26 years ago.
Seriously, with 5 billion in cash a year, that's the best they can do? A PC table and a way to control your OnStar by flexing your wrists? At least if it has a medical use they can get something for it, but I doubt it will even make back 1/100th of what they've blown in R&D this year alone.

Re:Disney...
I see the other 10% of their revenue coming from the new game "LightCycles 3D"
Which I sadly will probably buy a copy of.I'm just happy that someone seems to have made an actual Space Paranoids game! *That* was the game I always wanted to play as a kid, not that thing they came out with at the arcades. Apparently at a recent promotional event for the new movie, someone set up a "Flynn's" arcade, put a bunch of 80s arcade games in it, and included this game in an arcade cabinet. Sweet.

Re:What about Space Paranoids?
Someone is. There's a link to the project on the front page of Tron-Sector.

Re:Tron 2.0?There was a sequel? I'm an 80s buff and didn't even know that. Link, please?
He's talking about the game they did a couple years back. Should be cheap, I just saw it for $6 at the local Big Lots. Amusing, and it really does look very much like the movie - sobering to think we can do those kinds of graphics in real-time now.
Music available here.

The character Alan in TRON is based on Alan K
One of the writers of Tron became Alan's wife in real life. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0531381/ "She now resides in Los Angeles and Cambridge, Massachusetts with her husband, noted futurist and computer scientist Alan Kay" http://www.tron-sector.com/bios/bonniemacbird.asp
x And Alan worked for Disney Online for a few years. -
Nope
I saw on TV the author (Stephen Lisberger) talking about it at the time of release.
The closest I can find on the web is this:
"AM: The computer images in TRON were generated on a Visual Display Unit?
SL: Yeah, well they were generated on a CRT. What happens is that we lay in the blue prints using two different systems. On one we lay in the blue prints by byte pad and a cursor and the blue prints are traced into the computer which understands things in x, y, z space. You give it multiple tracings and it constructs the things in wire frame and on top of this you have programmes, algorithms for laying in, covering the surfaces with polygons and then you determine the point of view, and positioning, and light source, and then you can actually get the computer to show you the object or the environment from whichever angle you want to see it. The computer gives you back what its calculations represent on a high-resolution CRT, a little TV, and then you film off one frame at a time using a motion picture camera. The other system we used is exactly the same in the whole second half but up front it's different because, instead of tracing objects, you construct objects by combining sunprogrammes for geometrical shapes. It's as if you have building blocks which can be put together additively or subtractively in the computer and the shapes then become whole programmes. Then the computer goes through all the same things with the position and so on."
which shows where he got the name from (lot's of tron and troff when doing it, I bet).

finally we have a contender
I am a rich man, and there is little I cannot buy. But this will complete my plans for the ultimate match of humour, fighting prowess and pure home-made technology. In my secret underground lair I will host a cage match, fight-to-the-death called:
Ursus Mach 4 anti-bear suit VS. THE TRON DUDE -
All I need now is a Light Cycle from TRON!And this thing and my collection of Kick Azz Moto Bikes would be complete!
I've been watching American Chopper and just dreaming of the day I could have enough cash to order a custom light cycle.
It would be the PERFECT thing to go with my TRON costume: TRON Costume by BaumSquad
Until I can make that happen, I'll just have to save up for this thing! Kaaannaaaaeeeedddaaaaa!!!!
