Oh, that one.
When I saw the first three words of the headline, I thought it was going to be about this fucktard.
"Net Neutrality" is Obamacare for the Internet; the Internet should not operate at the speed of government.
Senator Ted Cruz, TX
What an absolutely fucking disgusting display of "If Obama is for it, I'm against it."

Re:Additional... both sides are showing bad behavi
Many of the journalists and supporters of the anti GG side have doxxed people... with their main accounts in the clear. Not sock puppet accounts that could be anyone. But they did it directly.
I haven't seen any of this; do you perhaps have a link?
I don't know why people keep bringing up harassment like this helps the anti GG side because the anti GG side has harassed far more.
Who said "we should bring back bullying" was that GG or anti GG? Anti GG. Every single fucking time.
I did see that one (only once though); at least the idiot in question apologised...
So they have no moral high ground there and I just thought that should be made very fucking clear. To the contrary, it is they that should be apologizing and explaining their own behavior which has been far worse.
People prominent in GG have received death threats, have had people call their work and tell their employers they're pedophiles, have had things mailed to their homes like knives or syringes...
Do you have any links about these?

Because it's completely impossible to find out about serious criminal attacks like people getting sent dead animals without following each and every single person individually. Gotcha. If only there were websites where people talked about things that happened, all in one place.

Re:Not this shit again
It's certainly what they like to claim, yet they're mainly concerned with the massive corruption surrounding a little indie game that's free and not making anyone any money, while they're ignoring the very large scale corruption surrounding major publishers demanding positive reviews in exchange for money and review copies (Shadows of Mordor anyone?). I have addressed this with GamerGaters before, and they defended it, stating that Shadows of Mordor is objectively good, while Depression Quest is objectively bad. And that apparently makes one type of corruption okay, and the other type a really serious problem.
First off the Shadows of Mordor story was uncovered by gamergate. That's how woefully uninformed or just plain wrong you are about this, you're literally trying to condemn gamergate for not caring about the story that gamergate uncovered and reported on. Second your entire demand here boils down to "why isn't gamergate doing what journalists are supposed to be doing for them!". That's a self answering question.
And yet it's the women that keep getting attacked. Who even knows the names of the men involved? GamerGaters keep harping on about Zoe Quinn, despite her being supposedly irrelevant to what their cause is really supposed to be about.
There have been multiple statistical analyses plainly proving that the "attack" and "harassment" narratives are provably false. You can literally cut out every single mention of Zoe Quinn, Anita Sarkeesian, Feminist Frequency, and hell even Feminism itself and the metrics barely change.
And yet GamerGate started with attacks on women, and any woman that speaks up about GamerGate gets doxed (see Felicia Day), whereas men don't (Chris Kluwe, for example).
A domestic abuse victim posting about his abuse is not an "attack on women". Furthermore if you actually give a damn about women who speak up and get doxed for it how about the somewhere around 30 people (primarily women and minorities) that anti-gghave not only doxed and sent death/rape threats to but also gotten fired from their jobs, had their utilities turned off, income halted by fraudulent reports, bank accounts hacked, and even gotten syringes, knives, and dead animals in the mail?
If you care so much why don't you go after the people actually behind this, like the GNAA and somethingawful trolls that have repeatedly been proven to be false-flagging the hashtag and paying up to $20 per tweet to do it? People Zoe Quinn herself has been caught retweeting offers for false-flag tweets from?Hell literally just the other day yet another anti-gamergate user was caught posting doxx on 8chan and then trying to blame gamergate for it.
You're sending a very clear message here: You don't actually care about women at all, you only care about women that agree with you.
That is not exactly my experience with the ones I've tried to argue with. Every single one started with these exact same arguments, and every single one came up mostly with irrelevant arguments, ended up talking about Zoe Quinn and Anita Sarkeesian were killing their hobby, and when they ran out of arguments, slipped up with a dose of homophobic and misogynist slurs (which at least one of them then tried to cover up).

Re:Wu mocking gays and transgenders
https://twitter.com/Spacekatga...
I don't think you can safely say her views in the past reflect her positions right now.
I'm also unaware of any confirmation to the GG-originated rumor she's trans, and the above would suggest she's not. (She's 6' 2", apparently, which is tall but hardly the basis of any sane theories about her birth sex.)
Frankly, I've heard it all, I grew up in a "feminist" household with the kinds of Feminist that give the term a bad name. Anyone living in East Oxford in the 1980s will know what I'm talking about - mobs that would descend and threaten men walking alone after dark because "they might be rapists", wymyn (or however you spelt it) who genuinely didn't think sex was ever consensual, that kind of shit. My mother was a part of this. They did some good work, I spent some time helping (as my mother's son) at a shelter for battered women. But these were fundamentally horrible people who were abusive towards men.
I've heard the entire spectrum of views on sexuality and sex/gender from that group. And often from the same people, given a year or two to sit down and think about what it is they stand for.
Wu? By comparison to what I've experienced, she's completely 100% normal. You need to knock it off. She's a little aggressive, driven in part by anger, but quite honestly, if you'd had to put up with months of being called a cunt (and similar) by anonymous strangers on Twitter or email, and then suddenly found that abuse turning into doxxing with death threats, you'd be a tad testy too.
I can't imagine going through that. I'm not going to second guess her, and if she has the money to put a bounty on the heads of these a-holes, more power to her.
What I'm glad she's not doing is remaining silent. That may be what the police advise. But a society in which people live in fear too scared to speak about controversial issues (FUCKING HELL, THIS IS CONTROVERSIAL? SERIOUSLY? WOMEN IN GAMING??!) is a society that's seriously screwed up. If the police are advising this, we need to rethink law enforcement.

Re:Really?
They've been saying that for about a week, and a sizable number of the figureheads left this week. Even Milo appears to have given up on them.
I wouldn't have added it to the summary if I didn't think it was essentially true I might add. I'm seeing a reduction in pro-GG posts. The trolls who form the epicenter on 8chan are, I think, both burnt out and seeing a sizable amount of what they were trying to do flame out without doing anything. The opportunists are leaving seeing the movement as toxic. The MRA people have better things to think about than video games. And the useful idiot contrarians were always a soft group that are unlikely to hang around a dying movement.
Also, uh, Netcraft confirms it.

Re:Getting trolled
My point is she conflates the two to deflect criticism (of which she deserves a lot) and to garner sympathy and attention. Citation. This is in response to doing an interview and claiming the interviewer was doing a hit piece for asking questions. Not threatening her, not harassing her, not being mean or negative.
I definitely want the threats against her to end and the people to be caught. But I also want her to receive the criticism she deserves. Right now that is impossible because she jumps lumps it all together as "harassment".

Re:Getting trolled
Sure I am buddy. A quick glance brings this tweet up: I enjoy your gamergate tears. That's definitely how normal people react to a group they are "afraid for their life of". Antagonize them. Totally not trolling or flamebait.
This tweet isn't attention seeking at all: link. Here's some stupid: link. Here's somemore: alcohol + men is unsafe for women.
Twitter has a horrible interface so I'm not going to look anymore but the best example of abrasiveness I have seen was during an interview going off on the reporter: video. At around the 20:40 (I think the link should go there) mark she tries to tell him he's making a hit piece then says the guy is making it all about him for taking offense to that.
My personal favourite: Trolling and stupid all in one. This is a game developer writing a C++ joke and getting everything about it wrong.
I'm guessing you see nothing wrong with any of this. But definitely not due to "projecting your prejudices" I'm sure.

Re:Wait..
Doxxing automatically turns any "joke" into a serious matter. Nobody would DOXX anyone if they knew the consequences for both the victim and the person releasing the information. Go read https://twitter.com/a_man_in_b... to see how often GG's have been doing it. There is one guy who says he's a lawyer who repeatedly threatens to use LexisNexis to DOXX anyone who talks trash about GG.
Doxxing: "the Internet-based practice of researching and publishing personally identifiable information about an individual"
Oh, I'm SO SCARED. Someone might publish my name (hint - it's my handle). Or my address (hint - I've provided a link to it elsewhere in the thread). Or that I'm a transsexual (hint - read my sig, which I'll repeat here for those who aren't logged in:
this post brought to you by the letter ' t ' in LGBTt (Lesbian, Gay, Bi, Transgender, transsexual)
The real hint - all this stuff is already public knowledge, so why worry?

Irregardless of the fact that: Gamergate discussion is actively prohibited on 4chan, the murderer has no connection to Gamergate, and no death threats were involved.
Please stop giving this woman a platform. She's obviously in it for the advertising and attention. Screenshots of her game have been plastered all over news articles for weeks now. She's self-reporting that she no longer receives threats so that can't be the excuse anymore.

Flaws in Liquid Solid Engine
I have been reading lately that there has been serious concern about the liquid-solid hybrid engine used in Spaceship 2. In 2007 there was a nitrous oxide explosion that killed three people.
On 26 July 2007, during the early rocket testing phase, an explosion occurred during a propellant flow test at the Mojave Air and Space Port. The test included filling the oxidizer tank with 4,500 kg (10,000 pounds) of nitrous oxide, followed by a 15-second cold flow injector test. Although the tests did not ignite the gas, three employees were killed and three injured, two critically and one seriously, by flying shrapnel.[12]
parabolicarc.com is a pretty good source of information on New Space. Here are some tweets:
Parabolicarc.com @spacecom Oct 31
I had deep concerns over both the new plastic/nitrous oxide engine and so did other sources familiar with the testing. #SpaceShipTwo
The concerns were three fold. One, that it wasn't being tested sufficiently on the ground before it was flown. #SpaceShipTwo
Second: that modifications required to ship to accommodate the new engine introduced additional complexity and failure modes. #SpaceShipTwo
Third, handful of test flights they were doing with new #SpaceShipTwo engine before putting Richard and Sam Branson aboard were insufficient
Let me stress2 things: one, we don't know what happened yet, so I'm not making a snap judgment about what caused the accident #SpaceShipTwo
Second, these concerns about the new engine were not mine alone. Folks much smarter and knowledgble than me were worried. #SpaceShipTwo
I predict you will be hearing a lot more about these concerns and the problems they were having in the days and weeks ahead #SpaceShipTwo
Scaled's Kevin Mickey called the engine change "a minor nuance". He rushed out of the press conference once it was over.
Mickey claimed "minor nuance" engine change thoroughly tested on ground. Tried to ask for details, but presser ended quickly & Mickey left.
Ken Brown was taking photos through the entire incident. Tracked one large piece of debris down to the lakebed. #SpaceShipTwo
I heard Ken say, "They're in trouble." And then "They're tumbling. Ken's pictures will be very crucial to understanding it. #SpaceShipTwo
Just talked to Ken Brown. Pictures show Engine fired fine, then there's a white plume. He thinks the nitrous oxide tank blew. #SpaceShipTwo
I am a huge supporter of commercial space, most especially Space X. But I think that accidents like this give the whole sector a bad name. Virgin Galactic/SC have been building this ship for 10 years, and they still don't have a viable engine. That is not a good sign.
Contrast that with Space X, which in about the same amount of time has built the Falcon 9, which has a string of 13 straight successes (touch wood). It seems to me that not all space companies are created equal.

Another great victory for the private sector. Rocket science is hard. It's not like we've been launching rockets for half a century or anything.

Re:Relax - CurrentC will Support using Credit Card
When the product is released, they won't require you provide SSN, drivers license number or heath data.
CurrentC has already been released in a test market up in Minnesota. They're already collecting all of this information. Here are the instructions they have that include the SSN and DL stuff. The health data is collected by default and must be opted-out of after you set up the app, but will collect anything it can get in the meantime. Likewise for location tracking, which cannot be disabled, since they use it to confirm that you are in the store you're trying to check out at.
FUD stands for fear, uncertainty, and doubt. The only one of those that applies here is fear, because there's nothing uncertain or doubtful about what they are already doing, and while you're claiming they won't keep those features in once it's released nationwide, you've provided no basis for that assertion. I'm more inclined to think that they'll continue doing as they've been doing, otherwise they already would have announced plans to cease doing so, simply because of the PR mess this is.

Re:Honestly, who gives a fuck?
(disclaimer: not the same AC as GP)
Her videos are well thought out and clear.
Which doesn't say anything about whether she is a troll or not. In fact, a good troll is very thoughtful and clear, to create the illusion she is sincere and isn't just posting to get a reaction out of people. Poe's law ("Any sufficiently advanced troll is indistinguishable from a genuine kook") exists.
The reaction videos and blog posts
Indeed, she has gotten a lot of reactions. That's what trolls do, rile up as much reaction as they get. And the more negative (such as as you said, strawman and rants) the better.
And then there are tweets like this one, or how she went public about her harassment (usually the police -or anyone with some common sense- would advise you to NOT go public, because that's exactly the type of attention harassers want)
What suggests to me that she is trolling rather than being sincere is the RESULTS. She has been active in the video game/video game journalism world for several years. What is the results of her work? Are we having more "calm and considered" discussions? Judging by your characterization of the GP and GamerGame as a whole, we are not.
So, on the one hand we have her calm and considered points for discussion, and we have your rant accusing her of trolling
...and here we have you ranting about the other AC ranting, accusing him of trolling.

Re:Wonder what brand is best now... Intel?
If you want to follow someone - pick Apple. Given the way news coverage is, if there's a problem with someone somewhere and their SSD in their Apple product, the whole world would know in a nanosecond. Someone as heavily scrutitinized as Apple (where even one failure in millions of computers sold would probably bring about SSD-gate) means if there is a real problem, you'd already know.
Don't be so sure about that. I and many others have had problems with the GPU soldering on 2011 Macbook Pros. This has been affecting lots of users since last year, and although there was some media coverage, I don't think it's gathering enough attention as you seem to imply it would.

Re:Gamergate is NOT about defining "gamer"
FWIW, I just did an experiment and tried to verify both of your claims.
Right now, if I go to https://twitter.com/search?q=%... what I get are posts along the lines of:
1. (The majority) They/you/someone says it's about sexism, but it's really about journalism!
2. Oh yeah? Well there are too women who support #GamerGate! Here's a selfie someone else took of themselves to prove it!
3. There's a conspiracy to misrepresent us by the gaming press! Just look at this biased Wall Street Journal article!
4. Buy our stuff! shortlink.net/spamspamspam #GamerGate #Ebola #Obama #tcot #FanGate #Benghazi #SomethingElseTrendingRightNow
5. #GamerGate people are misogynist jackasses! Stop the harassment of {Latest victim} now! #StopGamerGate2014So... uh. Maybe you guys need to start afresh with a new hashtag? It's fair to say that whatever your movement's "aims", they're not being discussed. You certainly aren't pointing at specific cases of journalistic corruption or anything like that, the entire thing seems to be meta.

Re:I don't buy it
I didn't say MS was better, I said the bash response was poor, and the poster I replied to couldn't possibly have had fixes in place within minutes as claimed.
I'm just pointing out that however poor the Bash devs response was, Microsoft's would have been worse.
Oh, and in your argument "up to 30 days" suddenly becomes "taken 30 days" - actually if bugs come in uniformly distributed in the 30 day cycle then average would be 15 days, or lower since sometimes they do go out-of-band.
Actually, my comment regarding "taken 30 days" for Microsoft is well founded in their historical turn-around for CVEs that they have acknowledged as being fixed. With a rare exception, they don't deliver any patches in under 30 days; and even 30 days is being gracious as it's usually more like 6 months so I'm already putting them on their own expedited schedule for such fixes.
Again, pointing out that however poor the Bash devs response was, Microsoft's at it best is worse.Plus, the second (and third and fourth and so on) patches are only needed if the first (and second and third.,.) one is inadequate and not properly tested.
If the numerous people reviewing Bash, from multiple companies, and disciplines didn't find the issue with the first patch, then how would Microsoft with a far more limited set of people looking at the code be able to get the same kind of patch correct the first time and get all the corner cases figured out and fixed before releasing the first patch?
I'm not saying the Bash devs had 1 million eyes on this; but they certainly had a few hundred if not a thousand or so in total. Microsoft's equivalent group probably is no greater than 50 devs at best, likely smaller; and probably no where near the cross-discipinary skill set match either.
So if the Bash guys had to do a second patch (or even a third, etc) to fix it; chances are Microsoft would have had to have at least as many patches too.Maybe MS are just as bad at that too, but the developers of Bash were certainly not good at it.
Agreed - kinda. The main point of the origin of this thread (article?) was that F/LOSS software could not deal as well as proprietary software; that somehow the proprietary vendors could do better with these kinds of bugs - both catching them and responding to them.
My point, is that based on its history - documented in numerous articles over the years - Microsoft is a prime example of showing that's not the case. That proprietary vendor's own policies and procedures prevent them from delivering anywhere near as good a turn around.
But here's the kicker - there is a similar exploit for cmd.exe. It's yet to be patched. ;-)
here's an example: https://twitter.com/FioraAeter...
(And yes, I've seen it from other sources, just don't have those links right now.) -
