Re:Gamers are the Victims Here
First Person Shooter players do not represent the entire gaming community. This stereotype is being used to label Pokemon and Super Mario players as misogynists and bigots. All gamers are being tarred with a toxic brush.
This kind of labelling is wrong and morally bankrupt. The gaming community is being forced to defend itself against these kinds of disgraceful libels, by people who are genuinely ethical bankrupts. Simply browse the #Gamergate and #NotYourShield twitter hashtags to get a sense of where these accusations are coming from, and exactly who is in denial.

Because SJWs are not Feminists/Progressives
Question, why do you (generally speaking) feel the need to lump all the people who disagree with you together into one group, give that group a sarcastic name,
I call the people involved in this scandal "Social Justice Warriors (SJWs)" principally because I refuse to insult the feminist or progressive movements by calling these people with feminists or progressives. Genuine second-wave feminists have publicly criticised their behaviour.
If you want to understand the difference, look up the #Gamergate and #NotYourShield hashtags on twitter. The Social Justice Warriors are hateful, disingenuous, at times sociopathic bigots. They are adult, internet-empowered versions of the bullies and tormentors which many gamers remember from secondary school.
Gamers are the victims here. The modus-operandi of the SJWs is to cast themselves in the cloth of underprivileged groups -- most SJWs are in fact white, upper middle class, college aged -- then proceed to level accusations of privilege, bigotry, and misogyny against just about anyone involved in gaming for even the slightest perceived infractions. A climate of fear has developed, first in the indie and later wider gaming industry as a result of the "social justice" witchhunts which these people regularly engage in. Worse, this has resulted in SJW-aligned developers and journalists rising to positions of power and being first in line for awards and increasingly development funding, with cronyism trumping competence.
For Gaming, so often a hobby of last resort for the excluded and isolated in society, this is an awful and tragic outcome. For gamers, male, female, straight, gay or trans, it is a frightening development. Their hobby, their refuge, is being taken over by bullies.
Because their rhetoric and especially actions come across as so farcically disingenuous, I don't believe for a second that SJWs actually believe in or support the causes of homosexuals or transgender people in video games. Their support for women is also largely forced, and disturbingly biased towards the conservative view of women as a weaker sex who must be protected/defended (A view consistently challenged by the games industry over the years).
My honest opinion of SJWs is that they are privileged Neo-liberals, who adopt a forced social justice persona both to project their own (increasingly obvious) bigotry onto others, and ultimately to benefit themselves socially and financially. They are disingenuous, extremist bullies, and the gaming community is under co-ordinated PR attack, and has been almost completely censored on gaming websites.
The Social Justice Warriors are right about one thing though; this is a historical moment. Whether they win or lose, the GamerGate scandal will be seen as a watershed moment in the history of online-communities, and who controls them. Two weeks ago, I would never have believed that a clique so small could all but take-over a community so large, but it is becoming clear that this is precisely what (almost?) happened to gaming. There are lessons to be learned here, unrelated to the immediate issues, and I only hope the right people will take note and heed them.

Re:I predict
Is it possible that some of the entertaining, amiable geeks that I spar with, party with, code with and blow things up with turn feral and run in packs when I'm not around?
It is unlikely. If you read further into this scandal and its surrounding issues, you will find that it is the gaming community which has been libelled by a clique of disingenuous bullies. These people will routinely label their opponents as bigots while displaying shocking levels of bigotry and hatred themselves. You can see ample evidence of this behaviour in these very comments.
For a better understanding of where the real "Ugly incidents" in this scadal are coming from, simply look up the #GamerGate and especially #Notyourshield twitter hashtags. The vitriol, hatred, and misrepresentations in this debate are coming from Social Justice Warriors (I refuse to apply the terms feminist or progressive to these frauds.)

Accusations
What's false, apparently, is the accusation that she got any publicity from their relationship. Apparently, the guy never wrote a review of her game. A quick google search seems to confirm this (the guy's name is Nathan Grayson if you want to confirm for yourself). You will find a couple of articles where he mentions the game in passing (for example, this one). According to his twitter feed, though, that was posted before they had a relationship.

Took this to Twitter the other night and Phil Kerpen and some of his friends really got in to it with me. https://twitter.com/mgcarley/s... (https://twitter.com/mgcarley/status/504773718250229760)
Not that they were able to actually have a rational argument - it was more FUD and name-calling than anything else. And of course they brought up Obamacare because, that has everything to do with this topic.
For those interested, the tweets between @kerpen, @ElBuehn, @BillyGribben, and @SetonMotley are from August 27 at https://twitter.com/mgcarley/w...

Re:why the focus on gender balance?
Yup. And of course, you are looking at the English Wikipedia, which is the most-developed language version of Wikipedia. Yet Wikipedia claims to be available in over 280 languages, when in many of them, coverage is really, really rudimentary. See e.g. the "Mind the zombies" slide from a recent Wikimania presentation – basically, only 125 language versions of Wikipedia have more than 5 editors. The others are, to all intents and purposes, dead.
Note also that even English Wikipedia contributor numbers (as opposed to reader numbers, which are immense) are really quite small. (Someone else has pointed this out above.) If you look at this table, you'll see that there are only about 3,000 regular editors in the English Wikipedia, i.e. people who make more than 100 edits a month (i.e. about three a day). That number has shrunk considerably over the past few years, from a March 2007 high of 4785. At the same time, of course, the number of articles continues to increase constantly (now at 4.6 million). There are fewer contributors, and more articles to be watched over.
So Wikipedia has many articles that it does not have the (wo)manpower to curate adequately. In the early days, of course, everyone thought that "eventually" all these articles that someone started would become little masterpieces, but it's becoming clear that this will not happen. Little-watched biographies in particular are a problem, as the only people interested in them are usually the subjects and/or people who hate them for some reason, so they turn either into puff-pieces or hatchet jobs, with no one really noticing (there are well over half a million articles that no one has on their watchlist). Yet they are the top search hit when someone Googles the name online. -
Re:*Dons asbestos suit*
The amount of actual evidence out there that Sarkeesian has been willing to lie about threats is zero
Please present it. I don't think you can.
How is someone supposed to present evidence of no evidence? The OP cannot find any existing evidence that Sarkeesian has lied or is willing to lie about threats. I suppose they could present their search result pages, but that doesn't actually prove anything.
As for evidence of the threats, here's a post she made on twitter highlighting an example of a specific threat
She could have created that account and posts herself. I haven't seen a police report to back up the claim that she "notified authorities". She has previously been caught lifting someone else's art for use in her money-making efforts, as well as trolling 4-chan then claiming she didn't know anything about 4-chan. In short, she is not a credible figure.

How is someone supposed to present evidence of no evidence?
By providing evidence of the counterclaim.
Evidence that indicates a true claim of aggravated harassment does not preclude the simultaneous existence of false claims of the same.
As for evidence of the threats, here's a post she made on twitter highlighting an example of a specific threat
Yea, like that.
That proves (presuming we believe the screencap, which I do) that aggravated harassment has occurred. It does not prove that she has never falsely claimed harrassment, but it isn't necessarily possible to prove such a (ludicrous, I think) claim.

Automated Clickbait Answers
Often there may be an interesting tidbit in the clickbait articles, but it's obviously annoying to have to actually click on them and find the actual sentence of info buried in 5 paragraphs of fluff and 20 ads.
There are some Twitter feeds that spoil the clickbait from it (https://twitter.com/SavedYouAClick is probably the most "useful" at this) but it'd be nice to automate the process so that when someone posted any headline with clickbait, Facebook would just drop the answer right below. Actually a browser plugin would work even better, since it could work on any site. -

Re:Will they ban this ?
The problem here is that the policy is apparently all about "misogyny", which makes it inherently discriminatory. The policy should be about sexism.
While I understand what you are saying, I disagree in the intent of the policy. Sexism is offensive, misogyny is hatred.
Are you certain? Let us not forget that there is a really wide range of opinion about what is and what is not misogynistic.
http://arstechnica.com/tech-po... Adria Richards got two guys fired for making dongle and forking jokes. She apparently thoght they were misogynists.
Enough outrage at these guys that she took a photo and shamed them on Twitter and complained to the organizers of the event.. And got one of them fired.
And yet,Adria managed to post this on her twitter account earlier
https://twitter.com/adriaricha...
"you should put something in your pants next time...like a bunch of socks inside one...large...sock. TSA agent faint"
Which was obvoiusly a story about smuggling socks.
Fact is this is a world where we now have two different standards. And men can lose their jobs if a woman overhears them and might be in a bad mood, or had too much coffee
As a Co-worker once told me - sexual harassment "depends on the mood I'm in."
And the discretion of the reviewer, too. I severely doubt that the men who were fired hate women. It was a joke, yet getting fired for making it shows exactly how it is interpreted as misogyny.
And in the end, her likely bad mood cost her her job, as she went outside channels to publicly shame these guys. Which no doubt some think was a misogynistic firing. And despite your assertions, check this out: http://colorlines.com/archives...
Not only misogyny, but racist bigots too!
Fortunately only men are this way, so at least half of us are innocent.

GAINESVILLE- We're on day 7 of the Pedro Andres Bravo trial. Bravo is being accused of the premeditated murder of his high school friend and UF student, Christian Aguilar. Bravo's phone records were reviewed.
"I need to hide my roommate," that is a picture found on Pedro Bravo's phone. In the picture you can see Siri responded, "Swamps? Dumps?"
The image was most likely a screenshot Bravo took from Facebook not an actual search he made. That was actually addressed by the jury who asked how he could do a Siri search when he had an iPhone 4 not 4s.
It was a screenshot (Shit Siri Says). His iPhone 4 was incapable of asking Siri anything.
The Gainesville PD also said it never happened.
https://twitter.com/gainesvill...
Multiple reports of Bravo asking Siri to hide a roommate are incorrect... GPD Det. Goeckel certainly did not testify to that. #BravoTrial

Re:Hmm?
I was wondering the same thing. I've never been that interested in engaging twitter, but everyone else was, so I wrote a bot to post random daily science quotes to my account for the next several years. I put a lot of effort into this bot (content-wise, the programming is elementary), and I think I should count as a real user because of that. I'm up-front about the fact that I am a bot, and it's mostly bots that follow me. All the meat-space people should just leave us alone. Don't let some bad bots ruin it for the rest of us.

Re:Weakest Russia ever
You still missed the point, sorry
:)What I was saying is that your premise - "if he crashes the economy his country is no longer a threat to the world" - is incorrect. For one thing, it's always tempting to "fix" the crashed economy by going to war. But even if it doesn't actually fix it, it can be that last "okay, if we're going down, you're going down with us" sort of gesture. Yes, a country with a ruined economy won't be able to wage a protracted war, but it doesn't need to do so to make others hurt, and the bombs and the missiles won't magically disappear. Nor will the manpower - and said manpower is only going to be more desperate and therefore (with the right coaching) more angry.
Now, as to why I believe that such a war would work to bolster inner popularity. The trick, of course, is to present it in such a manner that the war is declared on you. Russian TV has already been quite successful at spinning things that way about Ukraine - a recent poll showed that 94% of Russians get their news primarily from TV channels (all of which are now state-run or indirectly state-controlled), and 75% believe that its coverage is truthful and objective. Only 25% believe that "propaganda" is an apt description for what they're seeing.
So, really, all Putin needs to do to escalate to war is to keep provoking the West, and then blowing up any responses as something big. And heck, there are tried and proven methods to get a decent casus belli when the time comes - see Mainila incident for an example. After all the crazy conspiracy theories that are eagerly accepted for granted in Russia (by the population, not by politicians!) just to be able to preserve the "we are the good guys" mentality... something like that would be swallowed very easily.
And yes, the "patriotic" fervor in Russia today is such that, with the right sugar-coating, the population will happily swallow the war pill. If they are explained that all economic woes are due to Western shenanigans (and the occasional spy/saboteur - for the sake of some public circus).
Hell, they are already clamoring for war, seemingly more so than the government itself. Did you see #PutinVvediVoiska ("Putin, move the armed forces in!" [to Ukraine]) Twitter hashtag? It's only growing in popularity as more sanctions come in. Then there's another thing where people are mocking the sanctions themselves - that is also going pretty strong.

Can you explain why an Arab boy will get murdered if he walks down the street, holding hands with a Jewish girl?
Can you explain why dissident/tolerant Israelis are afraid to post facebook profiles, because black-shirted gangs will hunt down their street address and beat them into a pulp?
Can you explain why African refugees live in fear for their lives?
Why do Israeli snipers kill already wounded civilians and the RESCUE FIRST RESPONDERS?
Tweet (JLLLOW):

Equal civil rights? Israel has NO WRITTEN CONSTITUTION.
Your "democracy" claim is Israeli whitewashing, a baldfaced lie that embraces rhetoric of inclusion, to mask discrimination, prejudice and exploitation. Palestinians make up about 20 percent of Israel's population, while less than 7 percent of the budget is allocated to Palestinian citizens. The 1.5 million Arab citizens of Israel are de facto second-class citizens while four million more are not citizens at all. A Jew from any country can move to Israel - and is granted near immediate citizenship upon entry - but a Palestinian refugee, with a valid claim to property in Israel, cannot even visit. The laws for "right of return" and the "Jewish National Fund", which enshrines formal policy and subsidy for land ownership, are inherently anti-democratic.
In fact, there was another government and nation that behaved this way, socially, politically and militarily - but the world put a stop to that in 1945.

Re:Is there an SWA Twitter police?
I guess you don't use Twitter much.
Well, neither do I. But my roommate does, and he points out that specifying @SWA is a "call out" in Twitter. (See the second item in Twitter help glossary.) So when someone writes @SWA, the tweet actually, automatically, sends a message to the SWA profile. So SWA didn't need to go hunt for this message; it was sent to them. -

Remote code execution means a hacker can do almost anything they want to the victimâ(TM)s system, such as installing malware or siphoning off files.
"Considering that the purpose of TAILS is to provide a secure non-attributable platform for communications, users are verifiably at-risk due to these flaws. For the TAILS platform, privacy is contingent on maintaining anonymity and ensuring their actions and communications are not attributable. Thus, any violation of those foundational pillars should be considering highly critical," added Nguyen. This affects every user of TAILS, who should all "diversify security platforms so as not to put all your eggs in one basket", he added.
All users, including Snowden, should be wary of using TAILS with a false sense of security, though itâ(TM)s still more likely to protect anonymity than Windows. Exodus sells to private and public businesses hoping to use the findings for either offensive or defensive means. Those unconcerned about governments targeting their systems might not be concerned about the TAILS zero-days. Others will likely be anxious one of their trusted tools to avoid government hackers contains vulnerabilities that could be exploited to spy on any user of the OS."
