Re:Mindgames
No, really, it's over. Otherwise a developer wouldn't have posted this: http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?

I had been waiting for this for months! I had really hoped for at least some kind of warnings. -
This is not a game
Well, actually, it is, and seems to be embracing a different sort of audience than just NIN fans. The release is part of the Year Zero project and has a buinch of puzzles and related websites. Here: http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/index.php?f=21
8 is a pretty good start on that aspect of it. -
Re:What makes this an 'alternate' reality game?
An ARG has to transcende multiple forms of media and blur the line between in-game and none in-game often to the point where it is hard to tell.
I think someone already posted it but a good definition can be found here
I have personaly been involved with ILoveBees/Haunted Apiary and Ourcolony (which is arguably not really an ARG) and I would like to say they are alot of fun, especially well created ones like those done by 4orty 2wo productions.
If you are really interested the place to get started is probably http://unfiction.com/ . It is a great resource and the forums are indespensible within the ARG community. There is also lot of information about what an ARG is and a good archive of history about previous ARGs (much of it is interesting, other parts of it is just ammusing, such as the tail of wheregif/whoregif

Re:What is "ARG"?Here's unfiction's definition (unfiction is one of the bigger ARG discussion sites):
A cross-media genre of interactive fiction using multiple delivery and communications media, including television, radio, newpapers, Internet, email, SMS, telephone, voicemail, and postal service. Gaming is typically comprised of a secret group of PuppetMasters who author, manipulate, and otherwise control the storyline, related scenarios, and puzzles and a public group of players, the collective detective that attempts to solve the puzzles and thereby win the furtherance of the story.

Re:Feed the Troll
Alternate Reality Gaming is a slightly different kind of online gaming. You interact with characters in the story as though they were real. If you need more info, try the "What is an ARG?" and "How do I get started?" buttons at the top of the article. A good explanation is also available at Unfiction.
Needless to say, this is an article about such games that took place in the past year.
I'd also like to point out that, as a junior PM on the grassroots game Omnifam, this is the first time a project of mine has been mentioned on Slashdot. Woot!

Re:Immersion Unlimited
The real forums for args are at this place. I Love Bees was played on it and not the site you said to play at. I have never heard of your place before. What good is it?
-
Re:anyone know what to type in?
Unfiction has been playing for a bit and have already massed some information.

Re:Excuse me for being out of touch, but...
1) An ARG, as defined on Unfiction, is "A genre of interactive fiction using multiple delivery and communications media." Basically it's an adventure game that is not limited to being on a computer screen.
2) No. But that doesn't mean it can't be fun to experience (and it was). -
Re:I found it disappointing
From your discription it seems like you haven't checked the site out for a while. For puzzles you should head over here around noon eastern time on friday.

Useful Links
It would appear, to my much surprise, that none of you have read the wired article. Basically I Love Bee is a game. But a game played out in real life. They provide clues, and you run around working the clues out for more clues. This happens in the real world, using phones and websites. This game was used by Bungie to promote their own game, which happens on your XBOX. Very simple concept, terribly obscured.
Anyway these links provide more information, and a community you play the game.

They probably aren't ready for a slashdoting. -
Re:Doesn't outlaw anonymity now, but...
Man, this is gonna suck for Alternate Reality Gamers.

You can also read a LOT of information on this website at the unfiction forum dedicated to it. Really interesting stuff.

ilovebees.com
The ilovebees business is intriguing.
Anyway, here is a (barely distiguishable, but whatever) image of the aforementioned frame I found; http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/files/xboxilove bees.gif
Also it appears that for some reason, people have set up a whole forum dedicated to the event. -

ARG
This sounds more like reading the past events of an ARG than a novel.

Re:In related news...
This is indeed an ARG (Alternate Reality Game) very similar to the A.I. ARG "The Beast"
.. There's already a lot of discussion going on all over the web.. You can read this guide to get up to speed, and then browse the thousand posts in all the different forums.. If you want more info on what an ARG is go here -
